4 pointsHey glenn, going well. When i first started i thought i woud have a few sneaky ones but i havent so far and as each day passes it seems less and less likely that i would try to sneak one in. I had a couple of dreams that i was smoking though and felt pretty guilty about it haha. Watched some movies where smoking looked real cool (Lol) and made me feel like having a puff. I always used to smoke while driving and im still getting used to it but its just so much easier just not doing it. Its really quite amazing.. i check back on the app from time to time and can see the % going up and the $ being saved. Im pretty sure i under estimated the numbers and i reckon ive saved way more than that but thats not important. Feel much better and not coughing so much like before. Sleeping better too i think? Btw congrats glenn on your milestone

3 pointsScored this one today. 01 728i that was stolen and recovered. Dont get too excited. the other side does't look so nice. It's the same color as the 750 so I should be able to swap some panels. Style 32's will be going on it too. Also has a M sport wheel and 16:9 display which will do the move to the 750 as well. The 740i's going to be the work horse again when I trailer it home from Wellington sometime this week.

3 pointsStarted dealing to the faded trim. Tried some Dulon sponge on trim paint for the roof trim but it was terrible. The original paint had bubbled on the side I butchered with the Dulon so took the opportunity to sand back to bare metal. Then etch primered and painted a gloss black enamel. Although I removed to sand it turned out to be far easier to mask off the rubber edges when in place. Also tackled the rubber-coated body trim with some SEM trim paint. Painted in place as these are hard to remove without bending and/or breaking and not easy to replace. What a difference! Will do window trim next weekend. Before After

3 points5 Years today as of 3.00 am this morning. I was saving my 10,000 th post to mark this as a milestone to my journey and now being a non smoker. I hope others that have tried or are trying to do the same can achieve their goal.... if you haven't... just keep trying..... it is achievable

2 pointsManaged to set the timing for bank 1 exhaust cam after work last night. To be able to do so, as mentioned I needed the vanos on this cam to be in initial position. To achieve this I loosened the hub bolts to be able to relieve spring tension between the vanos hub and cam gear and wiggle the piston forward to it's initial position. I then followed the normal procedure to time up the cam. To get the cam to line up once you crank the engine over a few times to check it's position you need to adjust the cam slightly out of the timing window to compensate for slack in the chains. Then when you crank the engine over a few times and check it falls in the window like this : So with the timing issue out of the way, I now need to remove the vanos unit on the other bank of cams to replace a leaking o-ring.

2 pointsHappened to me today. A Manhiem auction and whoever was bidding against me put a bid on as the hammer fell. The auctioneer removed that bid and I won. And it was a steal.

2 pointsHey all, Relatively new around here, but have utilized your knowledge multiple times in past .. mainly for my troublesome E36, so thanks for that. Thought I'd share some photos of my E46. It's nothing special and the photos are terrible but absolutely love the car. Originally was looking at E60s and E90s but this popped up for half the price and caught my eye. Just ticked over 100ks, 330ci, factory Motorsport. Standard other than the exhaust to my knowledge, and a previous owner painted the wheels (they're a bit dirty at the moment but they're actually painted to a pretty good standard). Had the car shipped from Auckland to CHCH, perhaps somebody knows a previous owner or has seen it in the past, has BMworkshop stickers and plate surrounds on it. Have just fitted the black grilles as the clips on the standard chrome ones broke the other day.
-
2 pointsOhhh nice. I bet it was a stupid good price and you already got 3 good parts. Lol.. getting closer to the seven 7s.
-
2 pointsMake an offer, you may be surprised. Am happy to do a good deal for Bimmersport members.

2 pointsIt's as if it were like this from factory..( ) Stoked. Finished at around 4.15pm today. Installed gearbox in the pissing down rain in under 20 minutes with 2 people, a jack and a lot of swearing. Stopped raining immediately after. Definitely wakes the whole car up, gearbox is nice, clutch is nice, sits at 3krpm in 5th at 100kph which is fine. Completely transformed the car, am ridiculously happy with it. Overall about a 12 hour job for 2 people, had to take a few breaks as I didn't receive a few things with my conversion (Spigot bearing, driveshaft bolts, reverse light plug for gearbox, shifter selector arm pin), so had to run around getting them. Also picking up new BBS RG 17x8 in gunmetal tomorrow - will look nice. Will refurb and sell the BBS RX-204's.

1 pointThe more I see of the M-sport optioned E60s the more I get the 'I wants'! Just such a pity there are so few diesel M wagons in NZ Anyways, apologies for the thread jacking
-
1 point13/15 in 23s. I need to get out more. Or spend more time in the garage. One of the two. Certainly less time on the internet.
-
1 pointI guess for him its what he feels its worth, yes the km's are up there and there are probably cheaper around but it is well optioned and been well looked after but the asking price is up to him to decide or the market will decide
-
1 pointSaw this one a few days ago. Highly recommend. Excellent car. Don't let SMG deter you - loved mine. No problems given you look after them. I'm in the market for another one, but yet to see the right one pop up - I have a demanding list which seems impossible to achieve haha.
-
1 pointAnd sorry for the thread jack! Mint looking 328i too Dion, and great progress in the short time you have had it The manual sure does wake these cars up!
-
1 pointHi guys, just completed a manual conversion (getrag rather than ZF) on my import 1995/96 328i too. I've also got the rev hang issue and looking to try a trick I found last night. Apparently it's mostly caused by the ICV, and you can reduce the effect of it by shoving an 11mm 1/4 drive socket into the ICV to intake boot pipe. I'm going to give it a crack and will report back if it helps! I've also still got the check engine light after my conversion. Is the TCU a separate box or a chip in the main ECU case? If the latter is it as easy as cracking open the case and removing the right chip? sounds too easy!

1 point^^^^^^ I would take note on what Glenn says - he knows them inside out. Look at another thread on here regarding the N46 & its constant issues. Otherwise purchase at you own peril.
-
1 pointSorry to be that guy, but is 14 grand a bit high for a 12 year old car with 190,000km on the clock and non-OEM wheels? Or am I just out of step with what people regard as a fair price? Not personally keen on the tail lights but that car otherwise looks great! GLWS

1 pointThat was the easiest part for me. I could deal with it and just sit back and think... you silly bastard... to this day I still tolerate smoking & smokers as I don't think it's right to dictate my choices upon others... but I will offer help and advise if they wish to listen

1 pointjust dont buy a 4 cylinder bmw, especially e90's and e87's. save up or go down a few years if you need to to get a 6 cylinder.

1 pointWhen I'm changing wheels I'll do a side each on the 740 and 750.RC's on one side and 32's on the other and see how it looks. But I'm kinda fond of the RC's on the 740i so I dunno.
-
1 pointWell done Kyu... and never have a sneaky one, it's a slippery slope! Edit: at 28+ days you're already well past the hardest stage!
-
1 pointYeah I wouldn't have gone for an E46 if it wasn't somewhat low ks, although I've always liked them. $8.5k from a dealer and he took care of a rocker cover gasket, service etc. Not overly cheap I suppose but I think that was pretty fair from a dealer and much less than what I was thinking of spending on a newer one.

1 pointHit a bit of a brick wall over the weekend. Got to the point of checking static cam timing, as suspected the exhaust cam on bank 1 was way off the alignment window on the first cam bearing cap. Correcting the cam timing is easy, however to do so the vanos gears need to be in the initial position. For the exhaust cam that's off time, the vanos gear cannot be retracted as per the proper procedure. This suggests the vanos piston is stuck or there is excessive spring plate tension which essentially sandwiches the vanos assembly to the cam gear. My only options are now to loosen all hub bolts and try move the vanos to initial position, then set static timing and proceed on with disconnecting the vanos units for a refurb. Or I remove the bank 1 vanos unit prior to setting the timing in one of 2 ways. if I have to remove the vanos unit prior to seting the timing, more investigation will be required to figure out what's causing the vanos gears/piston for this cam to get stuck. To set the timing on an s62, you need to spend about 20 mins on a bench grinder making a 27mm wrench to look like this This the bank 1 exhaust cam, as you can see the marking on the cam is way off the window in the bearing cap. All other cams ok. The position of the vanos piston needs to be close to flush at the end of the bore when the vanos and cams are in the initial position, as you can see here bank 1 exhaust piston is about half way up the bore, so needs further work to get it to the initial position before the cam timing can be corrected.

1 pointHad a photo shoot a week ago with Docile's 135i M Sport. The Down Loaded boys take great photos and its great that they've changed the scene from the usual JDM cars they cover.

1 pointAbout time i did an update on my Touring project. Its not taking off like i had hoped yet due to other goals taking priority, and the car taking a back seat, but i have slowly been chipping away to some extent. Being brought up with American classic and muscle cars in my blood, it was decided to keep things V8, so the touring will be getting an m62b44 conversion! Its time to get out of my comfort zone, as the only place to get somewhere you’ve never been is to do things you’ve never done, right? Engine mounts, gearbox crossmember extensions, subframe spacers and an rpm tacho module was purchased from Garagistic. I also snapped up a 2.93 LSD diff, this needed the rear cover to be changed to suit an e30 and a delrin bush was added, cheers to Kerry from Mosen Euro Parts for helping me out there. Then it was filled with Castrol XJ oil and ready to go! My focus changed to the rear end of the car after that and i decided to give it all a freshen up. with the subframe being blasted and powder coated, new bushings from Revshift and a cleanup and paint of the trailing arms, i finally got this all installed yesterday. Another major part of the puzzle is the gearbox, i decided to go with a 6 speed Getrag 420g, this was purchased off eBay along with the shifter, and eventually got to NZ after nearly 4 months of hassles and sh*t communication from Kiwi Shipping, cheers to Troy for helping with this. Still a long way to go but at least the dream has started!

1 pointSo this is scary. just tried to insure my new Suzuki Swift Sport, all was going well until it came time to list the modifications. So, to be clear the mods lists are adjustable suspension, exhaust, pod filter and wheels. Nothing too serious. That all went well, other than the stupid woman not knowing what a modified intake was, but then suddenly im slapped with a $2000 excess because my car is "excessively modified". When questioned they claim its system imposed and nothing they can do about it. When i questioned why out of all my cars insured with them i have never had a special excess, she didnt want to hear about it. I pushed further and demanded to speak to her supervisor because she was just arguing with me. She refused, telling me that he would say the same thing. After much argument i finally get put through to a supervisor, who indeed does proceed to tell me the same thing (obviously in the 5 minutes on hold she brought him up to date), but when i questioned him about why i have never had this excess before, he decided to do some further digging. As it turns out, the reason i didnt have a special excess on my previous cars? because they never noted all the modifications at all. My golf, which had a modified exhaust, adjustable suspension, carbon front and rear, and tints was listed as just an exhaust and lowering. My turbo integra type r, which i advised of each and every part was listed as alloy wheels and exhaust (not even turbo). Basically, if i had stacked any of them, or had them stolen they would have had grounds to void my claim on the basis i never declared the modifications. Essentially what it came down to, is apparently 4 modifications is enough to increase the performance of a suzuki swift to the point where it is racekar and high risk and all my previous cars have not had their modifications correctly declared. My partner is now arranging to speak with a broker and i will be taking ALL my insurance (both cars and contents) away from STATE INSURANCE and having them correctly insured elsewhere as i cannot trust State to have competently insured me. This is just a warning to make damn sure you're insured correctly.

1 pointSometimes the tag on the diff will say 3 numbers, like "3.64" or similar which means 3.64:1 of course. Sometimes it will have 4 numbers, like 40:11 which means 40 teeth on crown and 11 on pinion, 40 divide by 11 is 3.64 as well. some people sell these as 4.10 because they dont understand what the tag says, so pays to check tag yourself, or rotate the driveshaft/input and count axle rotations anyways.

1 pointThat steering wheel looks like someone sewed on a Supercheap Auto steering cover over an SE wheel. Should look at M-tech2 wheels, They are nice in Alcantra (Expensive but you sound like you can afford it), Or a nice Nardi wheel..

1 pointI think at this age they are just a manual box with some bits on the outside, so probably no different to a conventional manual? you can still lunch a clutch in a "real" manual

1 pointMy understanding was the VAT is the UK/EU equivalent of our GST. That's why if you buy the product to export from the UK, then VAT is deducted but you can expect to be slapped with your own countries tax i.e. GST
