Bit of an update. Sticking with the m20 (for now...). Have got the gearbox mounted to the engine, I just need the rubber guibo/flexdisc to suit my gearbox and driveshaft and a better shift linkage. Picked up some goodies from Brent at BM World. Coarse spline mtech 1 wheel, headlight chrome trim and a large case diff (that I can swap the e34 LSD into). Before After Before After. It's now the shiniest thing on my car And the diffs. From the left, e34 535i large case LSD, e24 large case, e28 medium case

No, he is right, that is the badges from factory. Mind you, if I could afford an M50d I would want everyone to know about it, but then that's just me!

So when we bought the E91 the PO had removed the 325i badge and left horrible scratch marks everywhere. I had no choice but to get the guys @ OCD to sort it out. Photos speak for themselves of the wonderful results!

Could be a giggle, http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-988605173.htm Probably a fair price for the work gone into it at 8k, not sure i'd have picked that chassis for said effort.

Small update, no photos though.. Tuning all finished including cold start etc. Went for cert yesterday and only failed on a few minor things, 205/45/16 on 8" rim is apparently too stretched, upgrade brake pads to EBC red or similar, few nuts and bolts and a heat shield around the place, driveline vibration to be sorted out, which I will solve by aligning the two piece shaft better, or replacing it with a one piece driveshaft. I'm a bit unsure how to deal with the driveshaft alignment, but will put it in the air on the weekend and work something out. I have two months to sort out issues and it'll be all on for summer cruising!

I'm glad to see the M Performance sub-brand is well recognised! The vehicle in the photo is an X5 M50d (series = X5, model = M50d) this is one of the M Performance sub-brand, triple turbo diesel engine, goes like poo off a shovel. This is NOT to be confused with the BMW M Gmbh car (or "M" car as most refer to it..) which IS the X5 M Josh (tut! tut!) and has the stonking petrol V8 with twin hair-dryers and goes even more rapdily, also has the WBS start to the VIN code as it is built by the M division, but in the same factory as the other X5s... And certainly neither of the above are to be confused with an X5 with M-Sport, which should be referred to by it's model code - X5 30d M-Sport for example, and is NOT an M car and nor is it an M-Performance car. Which leads into the question, what is a genuine M-Sport car... Clear as mud??

Welcome to my world!! Oh, and you missed a couple F34 3GT, plus technically all the 4 Series as well, so F36 And that's just the series, then there are the models below that... Then options...

I understand your disbelief - but that is actually factory badging.

What happened is the 50d motorsport X5 was marketed as an M car (like the m5 or m3) Everone thought they were going to call it the X5M .. but it kind of got badged with that rubbish on the back. Its what happens with the marketing department get involved in anything.... blanket confusion

The 318Ti Compacts only have the Aux fan, so if that fails, you're going to have a bad time. It does have the mounting point for a viscous fan though, I've thought about attaching the one off my E30 while it's off the road for some redundancy

Realised I had some mistakes in my post about what I had, should be clearer now. I think I should stop faffing about and just put the 260 in and go from there. Then if I can't sell the m30 ill stick it away for a rainy day and maybe build an m20 stroker in the mean time. And do the brake and seat swap anyway cause its not a special model so who cares about originality, plus they can be reversed easily. For the moment the e28 is the chassis I want to stick with. I would like a race car (e30 or e36 most likely) and/or a touring (e30, e34, e39 or e28 ) but can't really afford a nice one or another project car at the moment, or decide what model. So ill stick with the e28 cause I really like them now, besides e30s can't have all the love . Technically should have a cert for the manual conversion anyway... The m30 should be easily fixable. The m20b27 in the car runs (can't really tell how well with the exhaust off) and should be good, sub 200km and previous owner is a mechanic. I also have the majority of the parts for an m20 stroker so that's also an option.
