4 pointsHaha, better than some of the ones I've seen on Facebook of guys selling their RFB with their fat missus in a skirt 5 sizes too small leaning on the car, yep that's a selling point.

2 pointsIf he asks you to pay for anything before he's paid you, then it's likely a scam. I think the main thing is to make sure you have the money in the bank before you do anything, never trust them to pay later.

2 pointsHad a re-occuring fault code to do with the e-box fan which is a small electric fan that draws in air from the outside and in to the box where the DME lives. With a pretty intense summer this year I though it'd be a good idea to replace it. I tried activating the old one in DIS but I could not hear it running. Did the same one with the new one in place and it hummed away nicely. Nothing broken during the process and all back together now. Next job, front discs, pads and wear sensor.

2 pointsI think you'll find the after cat sensors are overheat sensors and not 02 after cat oxygen fuel trim sensors

2 pointsCats and pre cat O2 sensors are two different things as far as the DME is concerned. Removing the O2 sensors will remove closed loop operation. It will cause the DME to default to a lookup table for fueling. No more power is gained by removing them. In some circumstances power will be lost as it will run more rich as a fail safe. Removing cats are a different story. Removing cats will increase exhaust flow however it will remove back pressure. You will get a short term gain from cat removal in the top end however this can offset torque with the removal of back pressure. The DME has cold start pre-cat warm up program and other emissions (SAP) and EGR programs which can be switched off by a competent tuner. You can remove the DTC function from the DTC table. Again a proper tuner should be able to do this. In my MSS50 I have removed pre-cat warm up, SAP program and EGR. I have also have also changed my flag to no catalytic converter and removed the related DTCs. I do however have my o2 sensors installed so I can retain closed loop driving conditions. My cats have been removed as I run straight pipes to a back box I also removed and blanked off and removed my secondary air pump and connecting hoses. I have programmed my DME to handle it all and to remove cold start issues. **Edited for correctness... few sleepless nights lately. Babys are fun.

2 pointsAgree 100% on 17s for NZ roads. There's just too much inconsistency with local goat tracks, especially out these ways! It's the main reason why I won't put M-Pars on the wifes wagon, it rides nicely on the style 66s already. From memory I'd need to go to a 30/35 profile tyre to get the rolling diameter right and its just not enough tyre to ride comfortably on. That and she'd kerb them to death in like a month! Buuuuut, it does look tits on the staggered Alpinas!

2 pointsDecided to try them on the touring.. I think they will stay on there..

1 pointSold this car a year ago and purchased it back. Thought i better post it here Replaced driver and passenger's side door handle mechanisms Repaired drivers side power window regulator with new slides Repaired door cards Replaced rear vent window seals Replaced rear windscreen outer seals Installed H&R Cup Kit (matched shocks and springs) Installed ECS tuning rear strut tower reinforcement plates. Installed Msport chin spoiler front lip. Replaced water pump with new unit with metal impeller Replaced thermostat Replaced thermostat housing with aluminium unit Replaced upper and lower rad hoses Replaced radiator cap Replaced LCA bushings with purple powerflex. Replaced RTA bushings Installed poly RTAB limiters Fixed the PS fluid leaks & replaced fluid. Style 22s with near new Dunlop Direzza Z2 star specs (200 treadwear semi-slicks). Plan is 8 point cage, new rear diff and aftermarket LSD, racetech 4009 seats, new brake lines and fluid. Trying to keep to cheap OEM parts. Not out to win any series. Goal is club events and maybe a short targa.

1 pointHowdy guys and girls. 6 years of enduring public transport, I've finally bought a replacement car. Always admired the brand and it's so good to finally be an owner. Incredible car, damn good on gas considering the engine size and the distance I travel every day. Currently costing my $50 p/w as opposed to $80 taking the bus from Wattle Downs to Parnell every day. I am light footed and coast where I can, so maybe my nananess is helping. Hoping to attend meet ups and make some new mates. Don't know a lot about the workings of cars so I'll be relying heavily on your advice. Not sure what I want to do with the car as of yet. I haven't really got any spare cash to spend although I have been eyeing up Plasti Dip to colour (as a cheap alternative to powder coating) my wheels and grill in black. Love the wheels, so not really interested in replacing right now. We'll see I guess. Any horror stories with Plasti Dip?

1 pointdo a google on 'trademe used car sale scam' or look at this link as your starter for ten... I was approached when selling my maxima, they weren't too clever ultimately. The story was he was working on a ship, buying car for his son, liked the look and could see I was very honest, was happy to buy sight unseen and ship to england. Every time I asked a question to qualify, their answer involved a compliment or reference to my trustworthiness. I asked which port he worked out of, and name of vessel. They wanted to communicate via email, and lo and behold... gmail messenger, they really took off with the pressure, though it was clear they were having muliple conversations at once and forgot which name they'd used with me. Then we ended up on voice calls. They were funny. I decided to turn the tables, and said yes, I would sell to them. I was very concerned they were buying sight unseen, and the only way I'd feel really comfortable is by obtaining a PPI. I'd be happy to arrange; AA (cheaper as I was a member), VTNZ, Car Inspection Services... provided prices... and when they'd selected which PPI and paid me via PayPal, I'd arrange the PPI and provide them with the report same day. If they were satisfied the car was good, I'd then proceed with freight arrangements. I was scamming the scammers, though I think they knew I'd twigged. Suddenly the comms dried up; they were working some other mark. They didn't even bother with the pretence of "oh, I've changed my mind, I don't like the colour". Key thing is, don't tell them you know they're scammers, otherwise the'll learn to change email address etc, and could be harder to spot for other unsuspecting punters. The scam works on you paying freight deposit, which they'll pay you back for in their bankers draft - which of course never happens. Just remember: if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. You could have a genuine offer, though if it is, you'll have to spend a lot of time qualifying it. cheers A Maxima for sale, some time ago...

1 pointI have my 'for sale' set in the garage. I'd completely forgotten about meeting at Kyu's this weekend, but I could be persuaded. And it'd give me a much needed excuse to get 'em out and take some pictures.

1 pointI have edited my mss50 32kb binary and switched catalytic heating off in the calibration space. Basically I have taken the good bits from the ZA calibration and kept the EU tune as for a road car you cant get much better than the EU map calibration. Race car you can get more power as the coolant conditions are a known entity. IE doesnt trigger knock. Mine only has 2 pre cat o2 sensors. No post cat system for the mss50 3.18 software.

1 pointCars of the E46 era are a bit too modern for our Historic Touring Cars group which favours cars from the Group A and C eras and expands outwards to include invited cars from the FIA Group 2 time line and through to the late 90's BTCC/ETCC era.

1 pointDepends on the car. My 95 M3 had the cats removed, and in doing that both O2 sensors were also removed (just unplugged and connectors tucked away). Yes, it threw a code, but it also didnt have a CEL so the only issue was when it was scanned. Didnt have any drivability issues, not sure if fuel economy suffered as it pre-dated my ownership and quite frankly i drove it like the car it was so consumption was pretty high anyway.

1 pointYes first NZ owner - yea thats a risk you take I guess. This actually had all the books and servicing schedules in the glovebox which I have only just seen, bit hard to decifer in japanese though. Ended up buying autosure extreme mechanical insurance cover whoch covers most things in the car up to $10000, just have to have it serviced once a year at a workshop rather than DIY.Definetly a nice car to get considering the age of them now, the wagons look great I reckon. So glad I got the V8 too. Apparently its a good idea to replace the trans fluid and filter at this mileage onwards, which I will look at doing later this year. Edit. Just had a good look through the service books and I can figure out that it had been serviced roughly every year and 10,000kms so really happy that info was still with the car.

1 pointNobody actually wants an Evo 7, 8 or 9 so they probably won't qualify as a collectors car. Get yourself an X and do yourself a favour. They drive better, they look better and they feel better. If you really want some fun get a TME.

1 pointNow in HELL renewing an old association with us. 2.7 stroker with a schrick cam. A reasonably easy car to breathe life back into. Watch this space.
