4 pointsForums have the advantage they are searchable for information using Google, but Facebook seems to be the common thing for smaller stuff i.e. not projects, just casual hey guys how to get this off etc. there is also the advantage of no fkn pokemon memes on here

3 pointsI'm trying to persuade Miss M to start her own project thread... She has created a forum ID - 'Miss M' - but that's as far as it's got at the moment. If you see her post, be gentle, eh? She's really good and knowledgeable with Snapchat, Instagram and things like that, but has never used a forum, and very, very rarely touches email. Insight into the next generation of internet users?

2 pointsI upgraded my old E39, a run-down 523i that I scored for very cheap, to a 2002 e39 540i msport. So much more car. Absolute joy to drive and own. Very clean. There's a small dent on rear passenger door, and a cracked wing mirror, apart from that, she's mint. Couldn't find a manual version in my price range, so this is the 5 speed tiptronic edition. Favourite new features: The V8 - way way way way faster Remote unlock Memory electronic sports seats Auto headlights The m-technic bumpers look much better than standard spec bumpers The brakes are brutally effective Parking distance control still works, so that's handy for preventing scrapes due to the lowness So, this'll do until I can afford an M5

1 pointHi everyone, Thought we'd join up here since we now have a couple of e39s. We love these cars. We think that they are the best looking BMWs ever and that Chris Bangle is the prince of darkness We got into these cars a couple of years ago after buying a white 1997 520i for no other reason than it was cheap and looked nice. Didn't even need it - already had 4 vehicles. Fast forward to today and we have just added a metallic black 2003 530i Msport to the fleet for the wife. We knew what we were after it just took some time for the right car to come up. 130,000km, leather, full documented service history and not least of all - NO sunroof!! We now have 6 vehicles and tempted to add a 540i manual 6 speed to the fleet. Would keep the 520i though as a runabout and garage the others to keep km down - maybe take em out on nice days. Look forward to learning from and maybe meeting some of you Sandy

1 pointMust be a bit of a buyers market at the moment with 5 1M's being on the market? 1 pointJust joined this forum. Looking forward to forming some mutually beneficial relationships with other BMW enthusiasts. Italian motorcycles where my primary passion, until I recently aqcuired a 2000 E46 323Ci, which is in need of some TLC . Whilst I am a BM newbie, I am keen to learn about sorting out engine issues, such as PCV valve and vacuum line replacement as well as some sensors whilst I have the intake manifold removed. Clean Throttle body, Idele control valve and Mass airflow sensor. Vanos seal replacement next, then a dry ice blast to clean the whole engine bay. So much to do and so little time to do it in....buy I will be having fun. Will also be looking for spares and my new friend Ray from Hell BMW has been most helpful already. Looking forward to the journey.

1 pointhas a lot of pros but also a lot of cons. pros: coupe, msport, 2.8L, manual, hellrot, m3 seats, supersprint exhaust, lowish ks. cons: originally a 325 auto, no cert, hellrot, unknown history/engine condition.

1 pointno worries Graham, she's well ahead of most - she's out of doors, and learning how to use a spanner?! She'll probably recognise that - for around 50% of the time, forums demand some cogent thought; this should be similar to the essays she needs to write at school. Inject a little humility, humour, and consideration, and it's way ahead of the other social media in terms of expressing ideas. She'll do fine. A great opportunity for this community to monitor its entrenched behaviours and self-moderate!

1 pointThere is some minor damage under the sill, done before the front wheel hit the rear pillar and stopped the car suddenly :-) Lucky it didn't stick up further... I swear our E39 is cursed - it's only done 150kms, and is rougher than the Mrs last car, a 95 Impreza we sold with 325kms on it.

1 pointI've got the G220 with NZAD clutch (behind M52b28), would not recomend for daily driver (though I do use mine for this), kevlar clutch is grabby and very stiff. Why the desire for a new flywheel?

1 pointNot all that unusual. Auto 335i coupe, only special bit is MSport. Is a good price though provided the turbos aren't stuffed, which they very well could be. They are a bit bland in silver but MSport bumpers help, and if you add some extra black/carbon (depending on taste) bits like mirror covers, spoiler, bumper lip and wrap the roof it will stand out more. I've seen them pics of some like that on the American BMW forums and they look great.

1 pointI thought this had been a bit quiet. He's been detained for questioning, the police aren't accept his explanation, in their view this story of getting a free car is just an elaborate hoax and he was in fact there to collect the drugs/cash/jewellery. allegedly.

1 pointBut the E38 is also comfortable and quiet, something a Jazz will never be. Also, having driven one, fun must be a personal thing, I found it rather bland, where even a 1.6 E36 can be fun in the right hands.

1 pointThey are often the ones who sold the car to the guy who *thinks* it's an M3 (becausethe dealer told them it was). There are some good dealers, but a lot know less than most of the members on here, about *any* car! The other peeve, is people who say the cambelt is done, but are clearly lying - because it has a chain

1 pointIt's a start with the basics and go from there thing. 17mm AF Doesn't mean 17mm As F!@# - it's 17mm Across Flats.. She's enjoying it.

1 pointThings are getting closer and closer, exhaust is almost finished, hopefully by the end of next week it will all be fully welded and ready to go, then the mock up has finished and i will be able remove the engine for its final clean down and preperation. getting a little excited. Mean while have started work on the rebuild of my wheels, have ordered all new bolts for them (need to convert them to take m7 hardware) and then can measure up and have all new step lips made for them. Wheels came back from the painters yesterday afternoon, came out better than i had hoped.

1 pointReplacement 4.3 V8 waiting to go in, old 4.0 V8 just removed. Benefits will be a more modern engine with all the usual variable systems etc, 20% more power and 23% more torque.
