2 pointsFinally got my E30 going!!!! Thanks heaps to Jon at Auto38 for the ECU, turns out I had most definitely fried mine. Put the new one in and it started immediately. Next step: WoF!

1 pointIt is tidy, but does seem pricey. Suspect prices have bottomed out and good examples will appreciate. Looking over at the UK - beaut condition E39 M5 152K miles = £8K - so maybe not? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2000-BMW-M5-E39-Avus-Blue-/302219283652 If you look at old W210 E55s they have bottomed out at ~$8K - would like to think M5s won't go that low ....

1 pointYeah, great cars, it's been my baby for a while and feel sad about selling it, but I can't take it to China, steering wheels on the wrong side....lol. I've got all the receipts for work I've had done, never had a problem with it, but got a check done when I bought it and everything on the list was fixed.

1 pointThe Issues with the golf do need to be looked at. my "other" cars are VW. One is from the 70's - it's fine. The newer stuff though... the HPFP (High Pressure fuel pump - google it!) MUST be sorted before failure, or you can be up for replacement cams and even more in some cases. The DSG CAN be a major issue, but there are more than 1 type. research what the car you look at has. The 1.4 TSI's have been known to go BANG at times too ;-) You do hear more horror stories, as production numbers increase, but also the demographics of the owners determine possibly WHY there are failures, but also how much you hear about them. The major difference is in comparison to the E39, the VW is probably as "troublesome" (at least potentially)... but the parts can be eye watering sometimes!, especially locally. I tend to get the VW bits from overseas, but they still aren't always as "cheap" as the BMW parts I've required. The technical knowledge and "experimenting" done with the E39 is far higher, and far more in depth than the VW stuff you can find - things like DIY cluster EEPROM programming for the E39 is something I've done, using an online guide. I haven't found quite the same detail for VW stuff - it's often more about air-ride and how to stop your sump tearing off (mostly overseas). Having said all that, you can't pick a brand and decide they're good. ALL makers have made some dogs, and if you buy the wrong model, it can all go pear shaped ;-)

1 pointAfter taking a brake from the projects for a while and then finishing off the Track Daily, I started back on this ol thing. However with my wedding coming up in 6 weeks, I was forced to slightly alter the project and start again. Not ideal, but it was going to be easier and faster getting the wedding car look I want. I purchased a mint running E28 off trade me, with 22 years of proven service history and mechanical up keep. The body wasn't in great condition in some places due to rust, but that was perfect for me. Drove the car around for a week or two, headed to Hamilton and Themes and was very happy with it, so have decided to keep the 2.5 (2.7) in it for now and run it till it dies, then look at the V8 option again, only this time ill get one out of an E32 or E34. Other V8 is up for sale on trade me now Ive pulled off most of the rusted parts from original car and will just use these rather than re rusting the other parts. Started cutting up the rear quarters to make way for the wide arches to fit the wider wheels. Jacked the wheel hub to get an idea of droppage, still has approx. 30mm to go for full slam. Fronts all welded, painted up and will installed this weekend after ive done the front flaring of the guards Should have a fully slammed and Patina Rusta-Rod before too long

1 pointLOL Sounds familiar. On Miss M's car, the right rear door almost always locks independently of the other 3. I have to manually raise and lower the locking pin. The other three doors normally lock from the driver's door. Unlocking... The drivers door unlocks. Sometimes the others do to. Sometimes, unlock the drivers door, open it, shut it again and then the other doors unlock. (Except the right rear.) Sometimes, once the drivers door is unlocked, insert the key in the ignition, turn to po=sition 2, press the button on the key fob and then the doors unlock. (And the immobiliser disables.) The boot seems unaffected. All doors do lock. It's just that it can be a bit of a dance. It's been suggested that it is the DME (I think) that is the problem. I'm pretty sure the drivers door lock is also duff.

1 pointMost postal or freight companies will be able to give you a price for an "LCL" = less than container load, so part of a container. Just be careful on the MAF requirements, wooden pallets have to be marked as being treated, etc. parts should be clean as possible, not dirt, grass, etc. on them. Any country that has its economy in the toilet at the moment is a good place to look, Greece, Italy, UK, plus lots of parts in Germany! Good excuse for a holiday in Europe - happy hunting.

1 pointhave you had a word with Jono at Auto 38? He should have an idea of where to source one (or may already have one), and price to install. I reckon that kind of money - plus clutch and flywheel and fitting - is worth more than your car. And you'd not get your money back on selling. Is it worth it? cheers Olaf

1 pointThanks TermiPeteNZ. It will be missed for sure. When it does go it will at least help me focus on an 8 series once again. Or an E39 M5. Or both! These are a bit longer term though - there are other pressing priorities at the moment...

1 pointYou obviously did which is why you don't own it... just like the person who offered $17k doesn't own it either . It is for sale but I won't be giving it away. Now if you came up with what I countered with then you could turn it into anything you want haha (I am being somewhat sarcastic here). Took it for a 300km round trip 'Sunday drive' to the Shannon/Palmy North - someone please remind me why I'm selling this again .
