Just bought a set of PS4's. Got them for $1420 fitted and balanced. 245/40/18 and 275/35/18 sizes. Coming from Pilot Super Sports these seem to be every bit as good, particularly in the recent Auckland rain.

Finally after all my years of waiting I`ve got myself a post `00 M5.(build date 05/01) Fresh Bilstein with a Tubi exhaust system. A few cosmetic items to sort out then it`s of to OCD for its makeover Le Mans Blau with all the facelift options available. Though there were no major mechanical alterations to the E39 M5 during its entire production run, there were a number of equipment alterations that appeared with the 2001 model-year M5 (from 9/00 production). These include:-Revised headlight design incorporating illuminated "Corona" rings -Revised tallight design-Park Distance Control sensors in the front bumper (previously in rear only)-Thicker three-spoke M steering wheel identical to the one fitted to the E46 M3-Grey instrument faces -Solar sensor for standard automatic climate control-Revised navigation/audio unit with larger (6.5-inch) monitor-Rear head protection airbags added-Second-generation M Mobility tire repair system in place of earlier version-Available M Audio System with special tweeters, Kevlar/carbon coaxial speakers and two subwoofers behind the rear console-Alcantara headliner included with Extended Leather interior (previously only included with Complete Leather)

Hi My names John and I purchased this Oxford Green 1999 M5 about a month ago. There were some posts on this car over Xmas and in Jan. Just letting you know it has gone to a good home. I am really enjoying driving it. Trying to only drive in the weekends but just can't help taking it for the occasional mid week evening drive. Love these in blue and looks great with M6 wheels - but I think the white interiors look better with the wood trim rather than the silver/alu. Wow - I missed this thread Bit slow... Owning both an E60 545i non-MSport Dynamic Drive, and an E53 4.4i SportPac on 20" massive wheels (rears are 315s!) here's what I think: I mostly do urban driving with bits of motorway and occasional longer trips 545i is somewhat more fuel efficient at ~14l/100KM and on long distance has averaged <10. X5 urban sits around 17l/100KM and when mixed with some longer distance sits around 15 545i is much faster and handles much better X5 goes pretty damned well and handles well too - all things considered. My brother who has a Toyota Vanguard (stretched RAV 4) thought it was epic by comparison - as you would hope of course. the X5 has a standard quad exhaust that sounds great while the 545i is quiet and refined and needs RPMs to bring out the beautiful sound it can make. Just replaced the front tyres on the X5 275/40x20 RH06 at $400 per corner - decent Hankooks My kids like the M5 most, then the X5, then the 545i. Driving experience is M5>545i>X5. Both vehicles are very safe and great for long distance driving. The E53 X5 was tops safety wise in the Aussie Monash University safety research. The reason I'd go to an E70 would be 7-seat flexibility - and I'd want a MSport. - Pete

I have driven several thousand km in rental Holden SV6s with the non-runflat version of the tyre and those were perfectly fine. Still not as grippy as the best, but comfortable and suited that car just fine. I think it's those stiff runflat sidewalls that make a major difference.

Just tidied things up enough to get the car ready for a first test drive. We worked out the ICV was actually still stuck, but the spare one we swapped in was also stuck. A friend loaned me one from his parts stash. and she started right up and idled nicely. Sorted the steering out with a Holden Astra linkage. Conditions for the first drive weren't great... No vacuum to the booster yet. I'm waiting on parts. No brake lights as my manual brake pedal doesn't actually contact the brake switch for some reason. Alignment is way out. (from the steering rack swap) Many critical items are just temporarily zip tied out of the way. But she was ready enough. FIrst drive went fantastically. The 4.11 diff paired with the ZF box makes for some extremely short gearing. I learned the ECU is in limp mode, limiting the engine revs to 5200rpm or so (This is probably just due to the complete lack of both O2 sensors, so not worried.). 5th gear was at about 5200rpm at 145kph. In the rain we were doing one-wheeler-pealers all the way to 4th. Don't even get me started on the noise....one of the most horrific, yet magical sounds I've ever heard.

I used to service the car I was loaned. Even got a couple of tyres changed once, although the garage did pay for them. I just did the leg work.

I used to get servicing from a small euro specialist in Wellington, he was excellent and usually had an old euro as a loaner, just requested that you bring it back with more gas than you left with, no charge. I drove a couple of smelly old fiats, and a selespeed Alfa 156 that was mental but fun. always ensured there was at least $25 extra gas (on top of my running around) and thanked him profusely for the loaner car. bonus!

Tough decisions. I bought an e53 4.4i as a tow wagon just over 18 months ago and it has quite by accident become my daily driver while I'm on and off our building site. It's a great thing to lope along in but it's a mini truck and the moment I get back in the e61 I realize that the X5 is definitely a compromise. I've only tried one e70 and wasn't blown away by how it drove - it was an early model 30d Sport and it felt sluggish with choppy, harsh suspension. Perhaps the suspension has been updated in newer models? That being said, it's not until you load it up with 2 tons of boat and gear and it performs like a mini truck should. Solid and safe.

Something you will learn quickly with a BMW, is that unless its a basic oil change, taking it to your "local" isnt always a good idea. A good independent BMW specialist is the way to go. It may cost more in the hourly rate, but itll make up for it with a more accurate diagnosis and knowledge.

K&G McCloud up Waverly is the place to go with euro stuff. Bmw send a lot of stuff up to them. They'll be able to diagnose the issue without throwing money at guesses to what it could be. Did it come with much of a service history?

it's the gehberhrenschitver valvugolpen. it's gefingerpokened kaputzezechtenarbened. Assume the position and open your wallet, buddy. /serious mode on Kyu's analysis seems reasonable place to start. What's a set of coils for the N62 worth? Oh, under USD200 for the new Bosch design, seems reasonable. Definitely no vacuum leaks? And your battery is strong and tests well yeah? cheers

First start video! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxD8lW_wjNo Excuse my enthusiasm, I was just extremely excited to finally see everything come together after months of work. But all is not perfect, the engine wont idle by itself. It runs great when we manually give it a bit of throttle. We swapped out both the ICV and MAF from other vehicles, but still no idle. I'm thinking the TPS may be water damaged. But we ran out of time, and had to head back to Christchurch for work the next day. At this stage I've got a few problems to solve before the first drive. The steering column doesn't clear the already chopped rear exhaust manifold. I'll probably just get a Holden Astra or similar steering U-joint setup from pick-a-part. The intake manifold appears to be just resting on the brake booster ever so slightly. I think I'll just add some washers on the engine mounts to lift the engine a few millimetres. I need to make a bracket to support the clutch fluid reservoir. The audi brake fluid reservoir clears the throttle body and intake manifold, but doesn't leave any room for a vacuum line to run down to the booster. I'm going to order a smaller reservoir from a Mk2/Mk3 golf which should solve the problem. I need to grab a throttle cable that will work. (probably from an E36) Fingers crossed, I'm hoping to take the car for a drive next weekend.

Sorry about the delay, I haven't had much of a chance to update the thread lately. Here is what happened since the last update: Painted the brake ducts I located an Audi brake booster which should work Started modifing it to fit. The 2 raised rings around the bolt holes needed to go. Side by side with the original booster. Modifying the E30 clevis, the Audi push rod is M12x1.5 All done, looking good. Test fitting, so far so good. I'll need to adapted the brake lines. First time I've done hydraulic fittings, so I did lots of research and practice creating decent flares. This is the result. Testing fitment with the intake manifold and brake fluid reservoir. I will replace the reservoir with something a bit smaller. And the Intake manifold clearance is tight, but I think it'll work. I'm happy with the result.

I'm lucky, I walk a few blocks to my office, so most of my driving is open road where I can return down to 9L per 100km on flat motorway, if I really try. Photos below, it's the standard vanilla without the Motorsport, but it suits my needs. Personally I found the MS setup very harsh, so I'm happy with my 19's and normal tyres. It also seemed to have most of the options in terms of comfort and heated/cooled seats.

Just looking at some notes i made when I test drove an E70. "Best SUV I have driven, but still an SUV" I think that summed it up for me. I was looking for a family hauler with a bit of dirt road capability and in the end I bought a Toyota because I was a bit sick of unreliable Euros at that stage. Go the e61 if you like driving, the E70 is good for what it is but there really is no comparison otherwise.

After a lengthy wait some more parts have arrived for the V8 Touring from Ergen Motorsport in the UK, some stainless RHD headers, made to fit for this application so no worrying about any custom work or fabrication. Straight bolt on! Along with an in car brake booster relocation kit that is the custom bracket and miniature booster unit, with a 23mm master cylinder that eliminates the booster from the engine bay and rotates it 90 degrees to sit in the glovebox location.
