3 pointsPicked this up from Hamilton the other day, and it's great to be back in a BMW again. Obviously its a pre-LCI 2006 E91 335i with Motorsport spec. So fast, so comfortable and so damn nice to drive. Im smitten! She isn't exactly stock, Externally it’s mostly stock, with just aftermarket grilles on the front, tinted reverse lights, carbon wrap on the rear bumper and painted exhaust tips. Under the hood, it’s a bit more special…. Its had fitted, Rob Beck 2″ silicone intake pipes 3″ catless downpipes AMS intercooler BMS catch can Uprated low pressure fuel pump MHD OTS Stage 2+ tune xHP Stage 3 transmission flash Quaife ATB mechanical LSD It also came with some extra parts, like a pair of K&N pod filters and fitting kit, and a charge pipe with a blow off valve on it. I’ll be playing with these later. Heaps of common issues have been sorted, including a pair of brand new turbos, new injectors, new coils, new HPFP, and various other bits. Needless to say it pulls like a damn freight train, and will overcome the traction control if you aren’t careful. The LSD makes the rear just push hard, and if it does get a bit lairy its a nice progressive slip. Previous owner claims about 380hp ATW, and the car has done high 12s on the 1/4 Mile. The other side to it though, is that it’s a nice, quiet and comfortable cruiser. It’s a pleasure to drive around in, knowing that if you have to whip past someone, all you need to do is give that pedal a push. Love the cruise control with braking too, just a shame it doesn’t have the full “active” cruise control, although it can be retrofitted. There probably won’t be too many updates on this car, as I intend for it just to be a nice regular driver, taking it on trips and things.

3 pointsHi all, I'm Josh from Auckland - a qualified auto sparky by trade. Strangely my love for BMW's really stemmed from working on them before anything else - though that's not to say it's the only reason now. I've embarked on a project to restore a 1979 E23 733i that I picked up a couple years ago from a chap who blew the motor up and stripped it right down to prep for paintwork, then realised he had too many projects on. The E23 is well on it's way now but plenty more to do! Cheers Josh

3 pointsWarrent time today. Took it to VTNZ as I was confident there weren't any issues. Turns out the orange film on the rear indicators had cracked off and they failed it because they were white. A quick trip to Repco and it's all sorted. ?

2 pointsI picked up an E23 shell, prepped for paint, a couple of years ago along with everything but seats and a front windscreen. It promptly sat in the garage for about a year while I sorted out life! Moved a couple of times, bought our first home and now my attention is really on the project. First on the list was to ship it off to get the interior, underneath and engine bay painted ahead of putting it back together. I've gone for a Calypsorot Metallic colour throughout. It looks quite different in the dark of the shop / garage versus in the direct sunlight: My restoration plan is ground-up - so while it was in the shop I started refurbishing what I could of the suspension and sub-frames (I had a spare rear laying around). My primary goal is to get the car back on the road so while I'm likely to change a bit in future to reduce the ride height, I've stuck with the stock suspension for now, with the exception of new Bilstein B6 shock absorbers - which should handle any future ride drop. I have both a 4-speed and Getrag 5-speed manual gearbox for an M30 to run with. Sadly I just stripped the motor to reveal chronic rust in the block water jackets and around the cylinders. The head is quite 'out of shape' around water holes too. It doesn't look salvageable so I'm now going through the roller coaster question of - what engine do I eventually put in? I don't like the tan interior it came with, and nor do I have seats - so I've found an anthracite interior sitting at a wrecker in Melbourne. The hard part is swallowing the shipping cost ?. I've also ordered some samples from www.stockinteriors.com who do a new carpet set for the car. So - that's where I'm at now.

2 pointsThats currently however, M2s are still being produced. I bet in 10 years a 1M has depreciated significantly less than M2. In other markets, where they werent "flooded" with 1Ms there is a large price difference, In the US for example, a 1M is around 70k USD, and a new M2 is 50k.

1 pointYeah I was so dumbfounded by the 20K M20 that I didn't realise the thread title had it as an IS. It defiantly is not an IS.
-
1 pointCertainly going to be interesting on how it will work & be policed. That said, I don't have a problem on paying GST, what has really pissed me is (unless flying under the radar) $399 has cost just that. $401 (if picked) has cost about $520 ish - with the other associated costs added. So it will now cost $461 - as it should.
-
1 pointThe stripes I could live with, but those side skirts...? No way. Makes the rear overhang look all wrong, low sill line flowing into a high as arse end. Needs a rear skirt to balance it up.
-
1 pointLSD is such a massive benefit on these. That alone would've sold me on the car. Great buy?
-
1 pointGlue a downpipe on that side skirt and it would do a 10/10 job of taking water from my roof.

1 pointAnd if they do police it what are the sanctions? I can't find any, all they can do is hold the goods at customs and ask the receiver for GST. That will cost consumers less than the current regime (assuming we have a similar chance of any given package being intercepted).
-
1 pointWho is actually going to police the 60k-1 million per year overseas vendors? I can see that the biggest few would comply but cannot see most vendors caring at all. Thinking about it though between ebay, amazon and alibaba thats probably >50% of sub 1k imports anyway. Not a bad haul for the no new taxes govt, will go a long way to building some real flash HNZ houses.

1 pointYeah I went in circles with the seats too! Call me boring but I like the style of the non-racing leather seats. For me this car is to be a nice cruiser - maybe a little pep - but fundamentally a cruiser. Nice one - I'll let you know about the M30, highly likely to scrap it just not sure to what extent yet. What are your Frankenstein M30s? I'm pretty keen to keep the motor in the BMW family. I've considered all sorts - 1JZ, an LS - but for this car it'd just bother me. I think my dream is an S38, or S50. But, not really practical cost wise nor cruising engines me thinks ?.
-
1 pointSpends money on upgrades throughout the car making it no longer OEM. Then spends 20K on a stock M20 rebuild.... What an odd decision.
-
1 pointShout out to Tonys Tyre Service in Takanini, first time ive ever used em. Decided to try some RE003s out. Really clean workshop, really good customer service, and I watched the guy use a real torque wrench to tighten the wheels back up, and then another guy came around and checked the torques!
-
1 pointWould absolutely love this in my E28!!!!?. Will get back to you after lotto this weekend. Anyway, back to the original topic. I honestly think BMW has lost it's soul after going turbo. The new petrol engines sound like a diesel motor. Yeah fuel this fuel that, bla bla bla... At least the M cars should have been kept NA straight 6/V8/V10/V12. But hey, everyone is on the turbo bandwagon now and this may be the way of the future till we go full retard, oops I meant electric.
-
1 pointIt's very nice indeed. But there was a Diamond Schwarz one that was asking 25k in Rotorua which was in very good condition too. And I thought that was really testing the market. $50k... IMO I would rather buy a normal E30 coupe shell, put a S54 in it, run it with just two seats and half a cage. Or Spend it all on hookers and blow.
-
1 pointAlso, where do you guys source parts from. I use Pelican Parts, RMEuropean and if I really have to ECS Tuning. Often even with 3 day DHL Express and GST it's 1/3 the price from the dealer, and more importantly they actually seem to have stock which is more than can be said for the dealer. Lots of parts are often "3 weeks ex germany". Ain't no one got time for that! Is there anyone in NZ that sells parts for our cars at a reasonable price? Reputable manufacturers too (Behr, TRW etc)

1 pointAfter watching those... your Mr Muppet would have a hard time driving a Land Rover Defender off road! Where is the  emoji?

0 pointsI just completed my Coolant Pipe repair. It was a pain in the arse but got there in the end. Took probably 10 hours to sort it. I know it’s a 13 year old car but still, this is pretty “out there”! Check out the condition of the old seal that was leaking. The alternator bracket is leaking, I reckon the guy that sold it to me knew about it and purposely didn’t tell me about it. Private sale so caveat emptor I guess. I didn’t realise I’d be signing up for non-stop repairs like this, but this is the last broken thing as of right now.
