7 points2185XX km Few cosmetic things tidied up today. Bonnet resprayed It was always a little dull but it really has faded to the point it was starting to get a big rust patch in it. The Body Stable in Miramar did the work. Before: After: Seemed like a good time to put some gloss black grills in and new badge. New mirror glass: The last one I got to replace the leaking one was for the smaller mirrors, now we are back to big mirrors on both side Steering wheel: I wanted the facelift one but with the airbag recall and not what it was murky waters. I picked this up for a bargain on trademe and fitted my airbag which isn't a takata defective one. Big difference is this has no leather missing from the wheel itself and also has some nice tri colour trim. I gave it a going over with the toothbrush before installing. before: after:

4 pointsPretty sure M5 is the tri-colour, M sport is just black. Some "individual" models may be another colour.. I bought a refurbished M5 one off ebay from Poland, new leather wrap and stitching, looks good with a bit of new car smell...

3 pointsAbout a month ago i sold my 327i sedan and purchased another E30. I was on the hunt for a genuine M325i for a long time and found this beauty its had an extensive service history and came with 17inch Alpina (Kopi Rep) wheels. It may look familiar to some of the older members as it was CRZARBs (Atta’s) car. Enjoy the photos

3 pointsDay 355: One month later, they're finally on the car! They look even better than I originally thought. Stellar! Massive thank you to the guys at wheelfixit, and OCD for making these wheels look a million bucks! I'm kinda thinking about getting some Ti bolts thrown on to finish the look. Still deciding though as the opinion on them seem rather mixed. the OE wheels will be retired for now. Might make a good set of track wheels in the future!

3 pointsNext day i removed the stickers, gave it a good clean and polish. This car is immaculate, drives like a dream but just wanted to add my own touches. Things I have done: - Suede Alcantara wheel (from my old E30) - Genuine 16 inch AC Schnitzer wheels - Painted the valve cover - Changed Diff/Gearbox oil (Redline)

2 pointsHey all, Have recently sold my E21 and on the lookout for a tidy E23. Want complete, tidy cars, and preferably registered. Be in touch if you know of anything, Cheers Sparkle - 0274242086

2 pointsUnfortunately, the engine in a friends car just blew. The good news is that this car happens to be an e36 318ti, and he just wants it gone. Looks like I've just found a parts car. Hopefully picking up tomorrow.

2 pointsMy farm bike reads less than 12km, delivered today. It does the metric ton alright so I guess I fall into the first camp?

2 pointsYour engineering mate was still explaining that while the girl he was explaining it to went off with the artist... to learn about the poisonous snake first hand. Sometimes art trumps science.

2 pointsI've heard the only way to get the protective film off new tyres is 360* skids... ?

1 pointOh wow. I'm glad you didn't post pictures from the Auction. Because I don't want the forum to archive them.
-
1 pointPerfection^ ? That makes sense. My old one had black stitching, this new one came out of the boot of that grey M5 with the insane air intakes that was for sale recently, but it was facelift so who knows where this wheel actually came from. Best $100 i’ve spent.

1 pointGot some sweet tints in the E39 It's all coming together, just need a full paint correction & detail now.

1 pointScroll through the menu to find out why, could be WOF reminder or stat emissions testing reminder if yours is an import. If it is either of those hold the BC button down and then change it as desired. If it's engine oil, brake fluid or otherwise then via the cluster

1 pointI don't recall it coming on in my E91. Usually in the section under that light when it comes on, it will say how soon or overdue the service is. In the example photo above, it would've been due 03/2016. Worst case, if you cant reset it in the car, it'll be resettable using an App or INPA.
-
1 pointSerious. Eco-Pro (felt icky doing it but I pressed the button), cruise control, pretty much spot on 850. I''ll see if I can get my wife to take an evidentiary photo when she's in the car with me.

1 pointI'll be doing the same later on this year, and been keeping an eye on this thread. One area that I put as priorities will be on safety and convenience more than 'fun' because as a daily-driver, I can't remember the last time I could have fun in bumper-to-bumper traffic. Things like: more than 4 airbags, EBD (ABS is a given), lane-assist, crash avoidance, pre-tensioner seat-belt, active cruise, traction control, auto wiper, auto headlights, Xenon lights (I even heard that some Leafs have LED!). Obviously the budget is higher than $10k but definitely not $20k for a car that will be left out in the elements most of its life. Some of the modern Korean/Japanese runabouts have some or most of the above features. 1 series has most of the above features though, and anything else older is out.

1 pointMost of the guff I read on the matter inferred that nursing it, especially by putting in lows of non-varying RPM, was just as bad as burying the throttle. As I understand it, the 'ideal' (which is what I'm trying to do) is as much variance in RPM as possible, under differing degrees of engine load, while trying to keep max RPM below about 4000rpm. Given it sits at 850 rpm doing 100kph on the motorway, it's a lot easier than it sounds.

1 pointAny modern car should have the "first owner" parameters coded in and digital dashes should be displaying all the required info (e.g. redline is adjusted to 4k for the first 500km's etc). To be honest, if I had a modern car I'd expect it to do pretty-much everything for me and if it didn't tell me to "drive it like this" then I wouldn't. But then again, if I got a brand spakner new car, I'd probably be leasing it which means thrashing it from the minute I got it. The headache beyond the factory warranty on a modern car is something I wouldn't even contemplate.

1 pointthere's extremes to both arguments and bit of history to some that probably doesn't apply anymore. the first gen 1.5 laser/mazda had many stories of glazed bores due to people nursing them too much but that was possibly more a new engineering tolerances type bug, workshop would take them out and thrash the living daylights out of them to fix it. not saying that applies to newer models where all the tolerances have been changed significantly over early 70s/80s engines . oils have changed, onboard computers are self adjusting in realtime now alot of very fancy car makers bench test their engines before they're even installed into the chassis and they're hitting big revs on the testbeds

1 pointI disagree. Well, I will grant that use of the term moron is somewhat offensive! All sorts of exemplars of sub-species of humanity are gravitating towards e46 also. In the Venn diagram of e46 (or e36) ownership the e46 (or e36) is not fully enveloped by any one - or all - sub-species of human ownership. Thus, loving an e46 (or e36) does not lump one in amongst all other appreciators of these fine vehicles. Eg just because I run an e46, does not mean I am a drift shredder. A Venn diagram, this morning.

1 pointGet a Ctek or similar, will on demand charge and not destroy the battery Removed all the heinous wood trims from the x5 to get them painted piano black. Will have to do the shifter surround also as that's silver. I don't know why it had the wood in there and the silver sport pack stuff all mixed up. Black is good.

1 pointEVO 8 Brembos could be a cheap alternative. I honestly can't remember what the mounting bracket looks like though.

1 pointI think mine are from a 750i. Will see if I can find some pictures. Edit: Nope sorry mine are Brembo 4 pots from an EVO 8, to be married up to E38 750i Brembo rotors.

1 pointbolt on options include , e34 540i m5 , e32 740i 735i 750i , e31 840i 850i 850csi etc . e38 ones will require some adaptor plates to be made up etc as bolt holes dont line up and then use some odd size disc etc from e60 ?
-
1 pointPost was probably by Milan when he built my E34 racecar. It has the big Brembos. They are a good upgrade. Pad choice is great too.

1 pointi would think a twin turbo legacy is the last car one would recomend to these people

1 pointhttps://www.trademe.co.nz/2192497907 I think there was a post here a couple years ago on fitting e38 brakes. Those are my calipers just for full transparency.
