What we need is for the current administrators (i.e. not the proud folk that have "Admin" roles/status here and seem to do nothing at all helpful) to actually engage with the community to discuss this, it shouldn't be a binary us/them thing, I'm pretty sure with an open dialogue we can get this sorted. Is it Ollie? James? Both of them? Get them to actually get online to let us know why they're struggling, we can probably help!!!! Feel free to tell them they're being irresponsible by not engaging and letting things go to sh*t.

Last night the 335i had to be towed home, my wife was in the tow car and assured me she had done it before. Well it was 25 mins of harrowing terror! The lacks of steering and brakes were hard enough but when she went through a roundabout and obviously forgot I was there I saw my life flash before my eyes. Now time to replace that coolant pump.

Hey, ya she isn't so bad. Just something about driving around with it that's making me a little crazy though ? so really looking forward to getting it sorted. Ah that's a shame about the panel beater, disappearing art. I haven't posted the parts list yet because a previous owner of the car actually reached out to me and has been really helpful. He owns a bmw restoration shop in Auckland and so says he might be able to sort me out on parts. So waiting to see what he digs up.

My first car. 2.5 V6 with the 6 spd. Absolutely adored it. Had great handling, looked fantastic, and was super comfortable. Biggest downside was the quality of the interior plastics and FWD. Still miss the sound...

Feel free to contact Andrew about it. James Watson is hosting the site at the moment. But maybe someone more active would like to take over doing so. I am not sure what their agreement is. TBH the alternative for me would be to no longer participate in the community if the forum were to stop. You could not pay me to use Facebook or other social media platforms. So if you have time and the ability it would be much appreciated.

If no record of it being done it comes done how fussy you want to get\how reliable you want it to be, but yeah - Cooling system, Transmission service, oil seals\hoses, vanos seals, PCV and suspension probably need some sort of attention. Most of the E39 wagon ive driven have worn subframe bushings. 525i less likely to burn oil than the 3.0L, probably only advantage it has.

Haha yep. Most of the other stuff went down to the lower half of Nth Island.

Wouldn't say it's been well looked after judging by WOF record ? Nicely specced though with front and rear PDC / sunroof

It took me about a week to get used to linear throttle but obviously there is no loss of power you just have to use the pedal fully. It is so much better for everyday driving and makes working around the small bit of turbo lag so much easier.

these guys are good for pumps. http://www.ceg.co/products.php

You will need a pressure pump to supply water to it, so the filter should be on the intake of that pump, flow is a bit on the low side, but still far better than any diy electric job!

thanks @Karun, you're most welcome. I'm pleased it's working out for you. Good to know I'm not talking sh!t either! ? The guy who worked on my Datsun in the early 90's is long-retired, he was in his late 50's back then, owned his own business. They were called Ah Wong Panel and Paint, they were down where the BNZ Building is being demolished on the waterfront (or that general area), did a lot of govt work too. I did wonder about them a while ago, looking into the company records (as one does) it appears the company passed on to family, and then closed down. I'll ask about the names of the panel beaters and get back to you in the next few days. You might want to post your parts required list (include the part numbers even, and the diagrams from RealOEM) and indicate which bits you've secured, and which you still need. Then folks here can help sort you out if they've got parts stashed that they'll spare you. (no pun intended) I saw your car at school last week, it's looking pretty reasonable... be great to get it sorted, no doubt.

232XXXkm Replaced the thrust arms (again) . Once warm the shimmy on braking was terrible. Ordered the parts and when I got around to fitting them noticed the right arm was obviously leaking fluid. these arms have done 20,000km and the RHS was installed by a very experienced mechanic, so not sure if installation error or wear and tear....either way; new arms are in (replaced both left and right) and the cars driving silky smooth. Felt like i was on a roll. Ages ago I bought diff fluid and drain plugs off @Gabe79. Problem was I couldn't get my fill plug loose, 4th attempt it finally budged. According to service history last fluid change in the diff was 60,000km ago. Out with the old: In with the new: New fill and drain plugs: Also replaced the drivers side headlight adjusters. Wow....what a fiddly job that is. Still have 1 broken adjuster on the passenger side but need another set of adjusters. Also chucked in some new cabin filters which I'm also guessing I got off Gabe.

Hey guys, sorry for not writing anything in a long time. This Tuesday, I finally got the car roadworthy! The week before I had the certification done but got delayed with the WOF. Currently, it is running the 4.44 auto differential, hence the max speed will be 166 at 6200 rpms.. that is short! If anyone has a small case LSD 3.23 or 3.45 diff to sell, I am happy to hear your price. Back to the time line and some pictures, Last yeas I was lucky enough to go visit my family twice (September and October) and then there was some construction, so the tear down of the E36 started in December 8th 2019... with the summer around, it was a nice moment to get some sunburns working on the car. December 22nd I've managed to remove the old M44 engine and by January 25th I was presenting the M54B30 into the chassis. Remember that I kept working 9 to 5 in a completely non-related industry, so, working only after hours, weekends, but also enjoying the wonderful landscapes NZ has to offer, so although the project didn't have the speed I wanted, I wasn't going to burn myself on it. Jan 26th with the engine mounted I started the measurements for the driveshaft, and the modification of the joint, driveshaft hoops installations, etc. The guys at ADL did an excellent work Meanwhile I had to ship the DME to the US to have it re-programmed and the harness sent to connect the OBDI chassis withthe OBDII engine, and by March 25th, the engine was "running", and thatwas already under lockdown... so my birthday (March 29th) I spent it working on the car, as well as that endless month of march, in which I decided to go with a set of XYZ coilovers and the next day, it was June 20th (Where did all these days went?), so, took it to a proper workshop (Pit Stop Albany, with Nathan, another crack who helped me a lot on this), and did the bits and bobs that I was not able as it was winter, wouldn't be working on the floor, or didn't have the proper tools..so, they purged the brakes, aligned the wheels, did the exhaust and put a very nice sounding Adrenalin-R Muffler (see the instagram video) and then, off to the certifier... failed but just for a couple of details, nothing major, which I had the guys at pit stop working on it again, the freaking airbag light decided to make an appearance but given it was a custom work, a trip to the electrician (Gareth from GT Electric in Glenfield, another superstar) and then, August 26th the LVVTA plate was issued, and then, back to the warrant this tuesday... I don't know who will read this of them but like I said, Gareth from GT electric, managed to get the cabling fixed in less than a week, and charged me next to nothing, Pit Stop Albany, Nathan did a really good work, Brent from BM World gave me a good guidance the times I went (would love to get the compressor but not in my budget now haha). and will probably be forgetting somebody else, so, sorry for that. I wanted to get more details but don't have pictures of everything, or they would need too much explanation. If anybody has a question on how I fixed this or that, I am more than happy to reply below to keep track. By the way, I designed an LED circuit to replace the silly 12v lamp for the heater lights... I'll be testing that out and let you know how it goes if anyone wants to try it out. I'll be uploading more stuff into my instagram https://www.instagram.com/bmwupgradeproject/ Next Sunday, will try Hampton Downs in the caffeine and gasoline run with (hopefully) some telemetry from Track Addict. cd5f88fc-9930-4e92-b19a-ff47ea7383dc.mov

All sorted now, fuel pump relay was the culprit - didn't even bother checking voltage at the pump. All the terminals on the 3 relays in the boot were showing signs of bad corrosion, so I swapped them for ones in much better condition, hit the key while the fuel rail bleed valve was held open, and fuel gushed out. 10 seconds later it was running fine. First time I've ever run across this problem with an E39, so something to keep in mind for future. Thanks to all for help/suggestions, my friend is grateful her car is now going again. And I am glad that the crank sensor has also been changed, when it was changed by the previous owner it had a cheap aftermarket sensor installed so that has been replaced with a genuine one for peace of mind.

Speak to Kiel at Kelfords (if he's still there), I gave him all of Cat Cams and Schricks specs 4 years or so ago when I was looking at getting mine done so he knows what is around. The problem is, the last I heard, is that no one is producing blanks for the M5X cams, there isn't a lot of material you can take off the BCD, and there is only so much you can do before the lobe becomes too large for the bearing ledge, as well as the lifter clearances becoming a problem. I'd have to look further into it but I do believe there is a VW? Audi? off the shelf solid lifter that drops straight in and reduces a lot of the problems with the lifters.
