6 pointsI joined this group a number of years back and the support, discussion and knowledge provided here has been invaluable, yes we have the odd enthusiastic discussion but this really is a very good community. A perfect example of this happened recently. I bought an E70 X40d and it was located in Auckland ; with Covid lockdowns occurring I was struggling to find a way to get the X5 back to Wellington. Pramod came to the rescue; he helped get the X5 picked up and bought back to Wellington for less than an airfare and diesel; and there was nothing in it for him he was just helping out. Pramod for those that dont know is really good with programming, he can sort and re program keys as well as code your DME, he is a BMW enthusiast and a really nice guy. Thanks Pramod, I really appreciate your help.

3 pointsOn Saturday, I reached a turning point with the relationship I have with my Z4MC. And wanted to share this moment with fellow car peeps as trying to explain this to my girlfriend was pointless and involved lots of yawning and eye rolls 😂 So up until Saturday, I was still on the fence about my Z4 M Coupe (or Moupe as my GF calls it). After selling my beloved E46 M3 over two years ago (which I had a spent a lot of time and money bringing back up to near mint status - shout out to HellBM and OCD for helping with that), I bought an F80 M3. This was an amazing car but I never really fell in love with it. It looked the part, had performance up the wazoo, but it never had any soul. I missed what the E46 M3 was - analogue, visceral, and raw… After waiting for over a year with a saved search for another E46 M3 in Trade Me (and having my cheeky offer to the purchaser of my old M3, to buy it back with extra $$$, refused), I turned my search to something else. This is when I found my Z4MC. I knew of this car in roadster form, but I didn’t know much about the coupe version. So after a bit of research, decided that this would make a good replacement for my E46 M3. Especially given it is manual, has the same high revving and beautiful sounding S54, and shares a lot of parts from the E46 M3 and M3 CSL (basically a bit of a parts bin M). But it wasn’t all good news. After purchasing it…I just wasn’t sure I’d made the right call. I mean, compared to the E46 M3, I think it looks odd and borderline ugly in places (particularly the droopy front end). It also doesn’t drive the same - it’s very twitchy, not as composed, and suffers from understeer. My first few drives of it didn’t leave me with a feeling of excitement or elation. However… 6 months in (and many many weekend drives) I have come to understand and LOVE this car. As mentioned, it’s not as poised as the M3, so the biggest thing I had to get used to was that you can’t drive into a corner hot - it’s more of a slow-in/fast-out car. This took some time to get used to, but once I learned this, I found that the turn-in on the Z4MC is incredibly accurate and the car feels so planted (provided you turn TC off). Also, after changing the tyres from the OE spec to 10mm wider all round, this has removed some of its twitchiness (this was originally done because I hated the aesthetics of the factory spec with Michelin PSS’s on the front but the handling improvement was a silver lining). Additionally, it feels like a proper little sports car. You sit low and slung so far back (the bonnet is huge - and I once had a 3.0L Z3). There is a sense of occasion every time I remove the cover and disconnect the battery charger. The side profile, rear, and rear three quarters look incredible (the front is still a little weird but I’m getting used to it). And, no surprises, the S54 is sublime (even if the ZF transmission doesn’t feel quite as good as the Getrag in the M3). It sounds better than my old M3 (and 1000% better than the F80) and the odd interior styling has grown on me too (though I have always loved that go-kart-like steering wheel). So I finally think I can sleep at night now without waking up in cold sweats regretting the sale of my E46 M3. I think this Z4MC will have a home in my garage for a long time… Attached are some pics from Saturday (up South Head - which still remains my favourite road in Auckland after Woodcocks and Monument).

3 pointsMy friends old car, he sold it 2 months ago.. Then that buyer sold it again - my friend had a feeling this would happen but is what it is. Imported via Hong Kong - car had a little rust issues here and there but in good condition overall. It was advertised for 28k now jacked to 48k because hes taken a deposit. Makes me happy keeping my E30 😎

3 pointslooks fairly priced given amount of maintenance work done. I think its a matter of finding a buyer who doesnt mind (or prefers) the beige interior. Probably best to put it on trademe to get more exposure.

2 points^^ My thoughts exactly, it's a 325i Coupe that has had some goodies put on it, not a "genuine" M325i / 325i Sport. Still worth some good money, but I would think that price would even be a stretch for a Genuine M325i Tech II. If it has sold, with the deposit taken, so quickly then that is a real bench mark for the market. I also saw a FL Coupe on TradeMe for $2,250 asking, I nearly hit the buy now, then saw that it was rusty as hell. Wasn't fussed about the 318i Auto part, that's easy fixed, but the tin worm is a lot harder to sort out.

1 pointPity they couldn't go full-M with the Supra/Z4. I guess it would upstage the Supra and maybe break an agreement with Toyota. A modern Z4M coupe with the current M3/4 drivetrain would be awesome.

1 pointGot a pro to do it, I believe it was a wash, clay, 1st heavy compound for scratches and overspray then 2nd finer polish - e.g ‘2 stage correction’
-
1 point@Sammo I don’t blame you, I can see the prices for E46s going the same way in future. Already starting to see it on E46 M3s, good condition 6-cyl manual M-Sports will go the same way at some point. E36 is a bit of the odd middle child (M3s excepted), not retro cool like the E30 nor modern classic like the E46. /tinhaton

1 pointGoogle Street View; can't see the plate number but it looks to be black. Somewhere I had a picture with a plate number but not too sure. Don't want to post the adress because I'm sure the guy deserves some privacy. Streetview is from 2019 anway so it's probably gone by now. Guy told me something was wrong with the motor and he parked it up. I remember the window being cracked and the interior being grotty as hell. Been sitting for I think 1 or 2 years like that at that point.

1 pointIt's not even a genuine Mtech? It merely has the kit, other than that is is a mildly nicely specced 325i coupe... What a price. I remember when real Mtech 2s went for like 15.

1 pointBe interested hearing from the 130i owners here if I have this priced right as there are only 2 manual 130i's for sale on TradeMe to go by. Other relevant comments also welcome.

1 pointFinally got around to getting a proper paint correction done. Car had quite a few little scratches, lots of swirl marks and a lots of over overspray with water spotting in its time being passed from shop to shop to shop by the prick dealer with no-one seemingly taking any car. Anyway, its come up great, looks like a different colour and for once in its life is cleaner than the E46 🤣

1 pointBest BMW tow car I had was my E60 530D. With a heavy Hirepool trailer and a full weight E30, the E60 barely noticed it. 10.5L/100km from Wellington to Auckland. The best tow car I had was my fathers Merc E55 AMG. It actually didn't care there was something attached to it. I did stupid things like destroying an SS Holden racing onto the motorway with my E30 series car being towed along. But 27L/100kms haha.

1 pointLast post Dec 17 😳 ^ Wow where to start!.. Long story short.. Early 2018 I added a third vehicle to my 'fleet' and built a campervan which took up a chunk of my free time along with work, life, friends, family + other non car projects. The e30 mostly ended up on the back burner. I still have the car and recently put some time into it so I will see if I can add the missing pics above and get this up-to-date Early 2018 I did some rust work on the boot..

1 point20 years... dude should have done in NZ. After a few months of home detention he'd get to enjoy his nice new BMW.

1 pointPurchased some new tyres for the 535i. Grabbed 4x Laufenn LK03 in 245/40/19 for $830 fitted, balanced, and aligned. They are visually identical to the old Hankook Evo S1 which makes me think that Laufenn get the old Hankook moulds. Will see how they go but can't beat the deal!

1 pointNot BMW again, but meh. Had the clutch replaced on the Maserati yesterday. Now that's a scary bill. Glad to have it done though so I don't get the silly limp mode anymore. I got an Alfa Giulia Veloce as a loan car and It was rather nice. With 280HP and 400NM it goes really rather quick with a huge amount of torque from 1500-4500rpm and apparently only weighing 1500kg, it certainly feels muscular. I'd say it's probably quicker than our 535i and, in general use, would leave the Maserati behind. Decent quality in/out as well, the only thing missing would be the latest german tech, but I'm not really into that stuff. Red interior also looks slick.

0 points@KwS Oxford Green is my favourite available colour for the E46 M3, that car was dream spec for sure. Sadly according to @leichtbau that one was wrecked.
