To be honest, having been on here for a while, this forum has gradually turned into a cesspool of highly opinionated "senior" members who have become far too comfortable and happily spread their drivel. Im guilty of it at times, but im mostly guilty of calling people out for their rubbish (and have been disciplined accordingly). I can understand why Michael left in that case, and I would too, if there were any better local BMW forums.

@Kees Having been an admin for years on another car forum I learnt that you can't please everyone all the time and everyone has an opinion. Like others I ended up on here as I was looking for a great local community before I committed to buying the dad wagon, I can see merit in both sides of this story. I would hasten to add that we shouldn't point fingers here, Mike while obviously very experienced had quite staunch views that would on occasion be released like a 2x4 to the head. One of the things that gave me the confidence to move into BMW ownership was the supportive environment offered by Bimmersport members, we don't have to agree on everything but there is a basic level of respect we have for others that shouldn't result in admin being put into a position like this and a long time member leaving. Guaranteed that no one has won out of this, the community has lost a valuable resource and like everything that becomes political people start to question the leadership - don't forget that the majority of car forums / clubs are run by people volunteering their time and resources - it can be a thankless job.

I think i would prefer just a slightly deeper more uniform colour coverage without too much shine. They are not formal dress boots or anything but i feel they are a bit scruffy looking and hence dont wear them. So i thought i may try a product and a bit of rubbing with a rag or brush to see how it turns out.

I'm another new member, finally. I found this place while trawling the 'net during lockdown. Current garage: G21 M340D Touring Porsche Macan Turbo with Performance Package. Yes, that is the official model name - why they didn't call it a Turbo S, only Porsche knows. F31 330D Touring The 330D was a bit of DIY 335D, since they weren't available here, with a remap to ~240kW and 660Nm. It's The Macan was an impulse buy, as it was the last of the true Porsche engines, being the the 3.6, rather than the VAG 2.9V6 group engine. Compared to the diesels, it's a bit more noticeable, so the children nick-named it 'Mr Shouty-Pants'. The 340D I had to have. It's as brilliant as everything I'd read, purchased from Sytner in the U.K., as BMW stopped doing out of region special orders just before the first lockdown. The in-gear acceleration is sublime, and the steering and handling are a big step above the F30/F31s. It was a squeeze to get it before Xmas; it missed the ship from Southhampton it was booked on, the next ship missed its slot through the Panama Canal, so sat there for 3 days, then it had to drop 1 vehicle to Papeete, so instead of cruising down at 17 knots, idled at 7 to push the 3 day journey out to 7 days to meet COVID restrictions for crew. One of the benefits of a small country (and having clients in all the right places) is when it got here I got it off the wharf same day, and to AA Compliance, who received it the 23rd and had it done by the next morning. The next hurdle was that there was no fuel compliance certificate for M340Ds, as they're not sold here, and one of the persons responsible for them at LTNZ had left several months earlier, and not been replaced, and the remaining person left with 1 day's notice to go back to Japan for family reasons, so no one was doing them. Another call to the right person, and we had that by 11am so AA could then complete an MR2A for it and actually get it registered. Next on the list is to purchase a new Alpina D3S Touring, as this to me, is the ultimate sleeper. Alpina are waiting on build slots from BMW at present, which isn't surprising given U.K. orders for M340Ds - and 3 Series in general - are slipping back from 3-4 months to 8-10 months (worst case I've seen reported). The recent news around Alpina's sale to BMW is also a hurry up, as is iDrive 8 on the LCI models (I like buttons to press!). The M340D's breadth of ability is amazing; there's not many cars that'll scoot to 100kph in 4.5 seconds, and still do 5.1 litres per 100km on a trip (55MPG for the older folk).

If you want a really nice shiny finish it's all about melting the polish into the boot with a heated teaspoon and polishing it to a high shine with a fine mesh such as pantyhose. That will get you to a parade standard.

Yeah I completely understand that, I’m an admin of a couple BMW pages and occasionally a call is made that is not well received by both parties involved. Seeing as Bimmersport is almost as old as I am, I grew up going on forums like Bimmersport waiting for the day when I could a) drive and b) have a car enthusiast enough to post on a forum. By the time I got my 540 I was grateful Bimmersport still existed, being one of the few forums left with an active enthusiast presence. Personally I really enjoy posting on Bimmersport as it’s one of the few places left where proper car enthusiasts reside, with places like Facebook groups now being largely saturated by people who wouldn’t even be able to tell you the difference between e90 and e91. I wasn’t trying to bag Bimmersport and it’s leadership as I am rather fond of this platform, I just thought it best to rip the band aid off and explain why Mike isn’t here (which was basically done in Mike’s words from what he told me, apart from the third person tense lol) anymore as it seems quite a few people were curious as to his sudden departure and it would close off any speculation confusion etc.

It's not the oil leak tou have ti worry about, it's the coolant hoses, valve stem seals, breathers etc

I get the impression everything is selling slowly at the moment, including petrol cars. Id hold on to it for a bit, 8k is cheap.

One of the best restorations on here. The attention to detail etc. was as good as M539 (Sreton). What a shame. Is he documenting the resto elsewhere? Wondering if it’s back on the road now. The heated debates make for good entertainment if I’m being honest 😅 Hot take but, #bringbackthefirstlockdownthread 👀😂 Bit stink about the admin/decade long friendship part. Hope there’s some sort of resolution to it.

Shoe polish is usually available in various shades of brown... either as "nugget" in the flat tins or jars of creme. I'd get as close as possible to the original colour. Try and get as much dirt/dust off as you can with a dry brush first, and then go to town applying nugget with a brush or creme with a piece of soft rag. Cheers...

Oakwood leather hydrating creme has worked well for me in the past. Used it in my E34 as well as on some old cracking leather couches and it worked well. You can get it from the supermarket. Had tried a bunch of different leather products but the Oakwood creme worked the best for hydrating the leather.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gish_gallop Happy to continue the discussion if you can stay on topic. I've provided links to prove the boy racer 'milk' incident resulted in an arrest. I've provided links that prove the police are tackling organized crime. I'm sure the other shooting / assultcases etc you've thrown out will be resolved too. By then your attention will most likely be on the next outrage.

Jesus, this thread really went to sh*t over the last page or so. Reads like a bad reddit thread. Yeah, lets just arm the police and let them shoot everyone. That'll never backfire.

I feel like the biggest issues with having a big engine like that in a barge, in NZ, is that unless you do long haul up and down the country often, there is just no where to drive it. Even then, being capped at 100kph in something that would be more at home on the Autobahn just doesnt do it justice. It would be completely wasted around town.

Name one Western country that doesn’t have organised crime. NZ is just a piss in the ocean compared to other countries. John Dee your posts just reek of a ‘stamp it out’ approach towards it. The outcomes of organised crime are disgusting, something that I think we’ll never get rid of.

I feel like the market for toys is tightening up in response to the handbrake on the housing market and the rest. Well I hope so anyway, I need a boat!

@SRacin @KwS @Twistee Seeing as Mike and I both have E34 540s, we would often talk so I know the reason for Mike's departure from Bimmersport, and he does not plan to return, so it is most likely the end of this thread for good. Thought I would outline what happened just to clear any theories, confusion, speculation etc as to his departure from the forum. This is how Mike explained what happened to me: Mike found his once thought of friend Martin aka "breakmywindow" for ~10 years was stealth deleting Mike's personal opinion posts he didn't like on the forum, after this realisation Mike decided it was time to finally stop posting on bimmersport after being tired of the "soft" direction he felt it was going. He called Martin out on his pretty abuse of admin privileges to which Martin responded with personal insults and then proceeded to tell Mike to "go f**k himself". Martin then blocked Mike on Facebook before he could even reply. So that's Mike's reasoning for leaving Bimmersport.

we've had a flood in our stores, soaking the carpet on Monday, and have been assaulted with a smell most foul continuously. in addition to boxes and boxes of now unsaleable goods, we have to now get the landlord to ensure the blocked drains are no longer so.

Looks like he unfortunately packed a sad and rage quit, which is a shame because his threads were perfection porn 😥
