5 pointsBeen ages since I last updated this so I'll definitely miss a few things that I've done. Most notably, had a problem with the ohlins dampers on the front sticking slightly on rebound. I was worried they might be bent or something but after removing them and sending them off to get rebuilt at KiwiSuspensionSolutions it turned out to just be some toasted internal bushings. I did really want to play around with getting some lower spring rate springs for the front while it was all disassembled and put a CSL front sway on to get the bounce frequencies closer to a flat ride setup, unfortunately cost just got in the way this time so I'll add it to the list of wants. Also finally updated the MAP sensor to the Kassel Performance unit to replace the old GM MAP sensor that had the wrong scaling for the OEM CSL engine management. Pretty easy swap over. Finally got around to grabbing some facelift tail lights for a pretty reasonable price. Visually they were mint, unfortunately a couple of the LEDs in the left hand unit were dead though. Luckily the place I got them from was a wrecker in the states and has already shipped a replacement unit so I'm not too upset. Currently in the midst of gearing the car up for a track day and one of the items on that checklist was sorting the diff fluid which hasn't been changed since I owned the car. While I was there I decided to replace the side seals on the output flanges since the left side was weeping a small amount. It should have been a straight forward job but for whatever reason I was having a nightmare doing it. Problem after problem. All went back together eventually though. Went with castrol fluid available from FCP and buying the friction modifier separately. Most people say to add 4.6%, I figured better to have too little than too much so I started with just under 4%. Went for the mandatory 'test drive' out to an empty paddock to make sure the diff still locked up and sure enough. No diff noise and the lockup feels sharp too, significant savings over the OE fluid so I'm satisfied. One day I'll get Kayne to build me a proper clutched diff since the fluid LSD's in these have a limited lifespan. Couple more things to do this week before the track day, flush brake fluid, new wheel studs etc. Really looking forward to going out on track in this, although the weather is making it look like I might spend a good amount of the day sideways...

2 pointsHUDs don't need calibration, only the camera and sensor do and not all models. At a guess I'd say the glass is defective, the area for the HUD in the glass is in the wrong place

2 pointsCommon misconception 1570kg - 1385kg it’s 185kg weight savings. The M4 CSL is merely one via marketing, I am more interested when the real deal CSL Hommage is released with all of its genuine weight saving strategy and manual gearbox and rear wheel drive. Just a shame it’s so limited and so expensive. And when you have to resort to this type of marketing to sell a car a manufacturer really has lost the plot on what Motorsport stands for🤷🏻♂️ IMG_3012.MOV

1 pointI just started that one from the start and almost kicked the telly through the f**kin wall with those issues All happy now

1 pointUse it on the open road, it acts faster than I can and I never get flashed. Only thing is watching it is fascinating…. Edit for Jon, mine are adaptive LEDs.
-
1 pointUse it a lot and it works well. Getting flashed (!!!) indicates imperfect alignment. I also had this issue early on in my ownership, and I got the dealer to align and calibrate the headlights for me. SInce then, no flashing! I'm pretty sure there are guides to do the alignment yourself if you want to, but you need a reasonably long space which you can make dark.

1 pointThey reckon that they have calibrated the HUD in house, but they still want me to go to the dealer to see if the HUD is faulty. Pretty sure its a defect in the replacement windscreen, but I guess they don't want to re do the install if there is a slim possibility that they don't have to. I'll have to see what the insurance says, but on the whole its a bit of a nuisance, especially considering I had to wait two weeks for the current windscreen to arrive in the first place.

1 pointYou think 320d is bad...try 50% bigger diesel engine in Wellington! 20k to get to full operating temp (with hills)

1 pointIt's live now and the live broadcast has the potential to be great, but the stream is choppy and currently ruining the experience. I have a 1GB fibre link, so I can rule out bandwidth as the issue. I hope they improve rapidly and this is just a teething problem. Still pretty exciting. And just like that @the 45 minute mark it has been sorted.....

1 pointhonestly, stick with the 35i. Its a hoot. sure, the 30d is faster, better on fuel, lasts longer per tank, cheaper, and arguably better, but its also usually 50% more expensive and pretty hard to find one. If anything you can consider the 20d but I would take a 35i over the 20d personally. If I was to spend this kind of money on car again in the future it would be the facelift X3 or X4 in 35i. I think they are fantastic mid sized SUV's that does everything.

1 pointOIC. Sentence is a little ambiguous and contains the word "load". Did not make it immediately clear that it was referring to contributing power to the grid rather than taking power from the grid. Thought it might have been referring to Tiwai (which would be a load) but then AFAIK Tiwai is not connected to the national grid so my bad Uses carbon electrodes to make fire though Got a lot to learn about energy pricing, but the one thing I do know (as mentioned above) domestic consumers are going to get screwed no matter what happens. The competition that was supposed to hold prices down just means you now have a choice as to which company you get screwed by !!!!! Cheers...

1 pointThey're all Xdrive @SmithyInWelly - assuming you're looking at the white one from Turners? N55 is a nice engine and probably better for short trips than the N57 diesel
-
1 pointDiesels need long hot runs to clean out the Diesel particulate filter. Too many short trips will cause it to block up $$$

1 pointBeen through this a year ago. Was it AA autoglass who installed the new screen? They broke my kafas camera doing the install and were really horrible and rude to deal with. But anyway, you need to get the HUD calibrated to the new screen by the dealer. Its a 10 minute job for them, and your insurance should cover the cost as part of the replacement. In future, always nominate the dealer as your preferred repairer, and the whole process gets taken care of by them from start to finish.

1 pointWould love to ride the circuit at pace or my pace anyway 🙂 Have done a number of runs in the NZ cliffhanger hill climb which has to be the most addictive thing I’ve done. Nothing like leaning over at 200k plus on what amounts to a rural / farm road. But then you see the times that semi pro NZ riders which have done the TT which just leaves me godsmacked. A few hitting 280- 300 kmh where I’m holding off at 220 . Gonads the size of grapefruit 😀 There is a really good talk / doco on a former TT medic. Better than most TED talks. Gives an understanding of how a number of riders have survived when it’s gone pear shaped. caution as it’s not for the faint hearted.

1 pointToday was a good day... Seat brackets showed up unexpectedly despite it looking pretty grim yesterday. No tracking updates and they were meant to hold them aside for me when they found them so I could pick them up. Except I noticed a box at my door at about 12 and sure enough... Everything needs a good clean and a wipe down after installing them but I was too excited and was running out of daylight. Thinking I might build out a small plate to cover the ugly parts of the exposed slider on the side, could help make it look a bit nicer. Have the rear seats and remaining trim pieces all ready to go in tomorrow followed by a good vacuum and clean. Driving impressions are unbelievable. By far the biggest improvement so far. The stock seats are horrendous. I found them uncomfortable and not supportive at all. The recaros couldn't be further on the opposite side of the spectrum. Way more comfortable, like I'm bolted to the car. Rear seat is still accessible but definitely not quite as easy as a folding seat.
