4 pointsBlew a head gasket (cyls 1-4) so spent the past six months sorting that and coming up with a better expansion tank solution (from a Merc A180). Did chain guides and OSV at the same time and now it runs perfectly and not a drop of fluid leaking anywhere (probably for the first time since either the donor or the wagon left the factory!!). Gave it a wash to celebrate.

3 pointsHi all, I would like to introduce myself and present to you my pride and joy, which may potentially be the very first clubsport ever produced, production Munich April-June 2002 in carbon-schwarz (m individual colour) it was brought to me in fairly rough shape and I've managed to keep it alive and healthy while I start my own business and find the time, energy and resources to restore this vehicle to its former glory, yes it is an SMG 1 and yes it drives and shifts okay, will be following Eagle's protocol and attempt to restore it with the same attention to detail, your work is incredible! 3 points241,000km Had noticed an intermittent fuel smell after giving it some jandel over the last month. Had taken the beauty cover off to expose the fuel rail to keep and eye on the injectors to see if they were the culprit but there was nothing obvious. Then I had a misfire the other morning on cold start which went away pretty quickly but it was enough to motivate me to look abit harder. When it came time to wrestle the fuel rail off it just came right out, I didn’t even touch the quick release connector…thought that was a bit odd. Anyway while I was there I swapped the injectors out for some second hand ones I had blasted some carb cleaner though using an AliExpress ghetto setup and an old 12 Volt battery. I might get my original ones cleaned at some point and put them back in but will see how these other ones go for a while first. Pretty sure my issue was the fuel rail feed line somehow being loose, not the injectors. got a very audible click from the fuel line when I plugged it back in. I did have a rogue vac line that I couldn’t figure out where it had popped off from as it went from the vacuume resovoir into the manifold but the only uncapped port was the little top one and this hose was quite big. Can’t see anything at the back of the manifold so I ended up swapping a few of the hoses over that seemed to fit the hole diameters better, not sure if I’m wreaking havoc here but it all seems to be working ok. The O2 pilot mod is now taking vacuum from the top port and the bottom capped off port is now supplying vac to the resovoir which feeds to the exhaust flap. I didn’t realise but OBD fusion hooks up to the vepeak scanner giving me some live PIDs which is pretty cool. Be even cooler if they were within spec. I also got a bike rack this week which is an older legit BMW one. It’s the same as the Thule 591 models but has this little fin at the back. Had to drive to Eastbourne to pick it up but it was a good chance to do some motorway pulls and check for any fuel leaks, trigger any misfires etc. looking forward to getting out on the bike with the kids now I can take mine too. Might need to trim this tree, although might alert me that i have a bike on the roof and to not try drive into the garage.

1 pointYeah that is by far the best option. HellBM will also have any other little bits and pieces you would need for the swap. If you try and piece this together yourself it will take forever just to find the parts.

1 pointI scored the same bike rack for $47 off FB. “Impossible to replace the missing key…..”

1 pointThis is a long shot. But if anyone has images/scans of any of the brochures for the E36 318is MS release I would be keen to see them. Searched around and these pics were all I could find.

1 pointDon't want to give the game away too much, as it sounds like we're hunting for the same things, but saving searches with misspelled words also produces gems.

1 pointLaughable asking price. A low mileage 740i no reserve auction sold for $3500 a few months back. The asking price on these is super inflated at the moment compared to what I think most people would actually pay.

1 pointHad the pleasure of meeting @Gaz the other week. He reached out to see if I wanted to check out an Eisenmann muffler from a 330i that he's parting out, which naturally piqued my interest. The exhaust was still attached to the car, the exhaust nuts at the back of the headers had of course rusted themselves on and rounded out when trying to remove them so instead we fiddled around unbolting the stubby headers from the head and removing the whole exhaust in one piece. All part of the fun. The rest of the exhaust had rubbed through from dragging on the ground but I happily walked away with the muffler. Has lived a life but cleaned up quite nicely. Will give it a nice finishing polish prior to going on for good. The donor was an earlier, PFL 330i and the exhaust setup on it was different to mine, whether from factory or from being modified at some point to make work with the muffler. The main difference being the Eisenmann muffler being a single 59mm OD entry whilst my setup is twin 50mm OD pipes running all the way to the stock muffler. This would mean a reduction in overall cross section area so technically introducing a restriction but it's probably not enough to even notice in real life, not exactly a race car after all. The muffler itself is technically meant for a 316i-328i but did come off a 330i so will send it and see how it goes. I've got a spare stock exhaust setup laying around that I'm happy to have cut up. Have booked in with Flame on the 16th to get this thing made to work. I'm thinking retain the cats, cut out the resonator and put in a Y-pipe somewhere along the way. Can't wait to hear the result. Will no doubt be rowdier than it is, hopefully not too obnoxious tho. Will still keep hold of the stock setup just in case.

1 pointGot the rear parcel shelf done this morning. Went for the grey duplicolor @Sammo suggested. Came out pretty nice, looks a bit darker in person but would be hard to match OEM colour as using the black coloured spray would be too dark. Think it will go well with the grey houndstooth fabric regardless. Big difference from the faded blue it was!
