I have been slowly warming up to the idea of open-pore, non-glassy wood trim in cars. It looks super great in the X5, and I am kind-of over the glossy wood idea on premium sports cars. So, I found a black wood grain textured vinyl and proceeded to wrap the 6-er's wood trim. Not my first time doing a wrap, but first time using a heat gun whilst wrapping and boy does it make a world of difference. The Vinyl is super easy to mold around curves and corners. Anyway, pics attached. Let me know what you think ?

Today I was trundling down the Tauranga Eastern Link when the 525i cut out. Odd, I thought. A bunch of cranking produced no joy but a very strong fuel smell. On opening the bonnet I found- of all things- the fuel line had come off at it's clip together junction! Also, @Allanw will be pleased to know- the clutch has fiiiinally started slipping! Woohoo!

As suspected it was the clutch slave cylinder that was leaking on the ‘vert, tried to find a seal kit but ended up with a whole new slave at a reasonable price. Fitted new one and bled it all through last night. And now it’s pissing down, so still can’t drive the bloody thing, grr.

Qube messaged me luckily while I was still there so I grabbed them. I think he's collecting them this weekend. I think I know where the other two went. Guy who works there has a commy Ute that has a set of style 66s on.

Got it sorted out. Jon sleuthed it down to Cam Position Sensor hi impedance. Changed it out, all going good, hot starting issue resolved. I'm listing it for sale this weekend. I'll miss it. 65" TV in box? No worries, it'll fit in the back of the Volvo with ease. Set of wheels and tyres? twice? no worries, the Volvo will swallow it with ease. Moving house? Taking a few wool bales of garden waste to the tip? Collecting panels for your e30/e28/e34/e39/e46 etc... yep, the Volvo will handle it. Want a quick comfortable quiet sleeper that surprises the bejesus out of SS/XR8/WRX/Legacy GT drivers? 855-T5.

Hi gang, So after my stint with the android screen replacement, and the subsequent discovery that (a) it was not suited to the convertible owing to extreme glare and (b) I managed to crack my original iDrive screen, I decided to embark on an NBT retrofit. My insurance is kind enough to pick up the tab since I put the claim through them and the NBT retrofit costs half of what just a replacement CIC screen costs. Why NBT and not EVO? This was a tough decision, but ultimately I chose to go with NBT since EVO would mean losing my HUD. There would also be some issues with regards to the screen since a modified F15 screen would be supplied. The NBT kit would allow me to retain the HUD, but I was unhappy with being supplied the older-looking display (plastic frames with no glass). Bimmer Retrofit were unable to source an LCI display (they didn't even know you got those). Here's a rundown of the screens: Notice how the NBT EVO screen shape is just slightly different. Either way, even when comparing these to, say, an X5's NBT display it's clear that no other model's display would fit given how wide the original CIC display trim was designed to be. The mounting is also different to most every other BMW (two screws on the bottom, two screws on the back plate and two screws along the top) So, I managed to find a supplier who sells the glass LCI screens brand new, and mine arrived today. US$299 is a steal: I hooked it up to our F15 X5 to make sure it works, and it does. 100%. I'll keep this thread updated with the retrofit progress. LINK to display supplier.

They have pads (Mintex or Ferodo), but no discs. I'll probably ship them in from Germany. I can get a pair of discs for ~EUR 80, plus EUR 55 shipping. Works out about the same price as from Startech, but better quality. Startech pricing used to be 'keen'... It'd cost a little less to buy in from overseas, but there's a wait to receive parts, so the convenience is a big, and fair draw. Pricing used to work out to overseas price + shipping + ~10%, which is fair enough. Lately some of the numbers seem to be climbing, and held stock is less... Of course, I am looking for parts for older cars and there are fewer of those around, making holding stock less viable. I've stood still, but time marches on!

For perspective it took me 3 years of fairly active searching to find a non sunroof facelift coupe. I was happy to pay for the right car. And if you read the ad, you’ll see there is a stack of highly sought after parts which total in excess of $5k. All of a sudden my asking price doesn’t look so bad huh...

On Thursday night in work X5 number 2 I exploded the turbo on the Napier-Taupo rd at 10pm towing a machine. So that was a bit dumb. The old dear has been having massive lag issues since it hit 400km and it's now at 455km. I told them so!
