hey guys, just wanted to make a post about being new to all this and happy that there's such a big community devoted to BMW and there amazing cars they have made. I myself have recently purchased a 2001 BMW e46 318ci with 181xxxkms on the clock for $4,800 from a guy up in Auckland. spent two days driving her down from Auckland to nelson and she handles like a dream, sticks to the road like glue and has decent power to accelerate and overtake while still having sweet fuel mileage. I'm over the moon with her and still cant believe I now own a e46 coupe, a car I've been wanting for over a year now after falling in love with them. feel free to send me a message or reply with any tips and helpful information about my specific model that will help me out, anythings appreciated

Sadly said goodbye to the old girl on Friday last week. She did well at market fetching a cool $29K. Probably still owes me a chunk but no one gets an E31 as an investment. Can’t say I’ll miss the trepidation every time a new thousand dollar ‘noise’ was heard though!! 😂 Farewell, old girl.

that means you gave it some jandal on the test drive. nice! you will be very happy with it, its probably the most fun car in that price bracket imo and not as precious as an M car.

Welcome Flynn, that looks like a pretty sweet example if I may say so and it sounds like the trip back down to sunny Nelson was a blast! Props on the new toy, lots of enjoyment ahead, the e46 is a fantastic chassis.

You'd hang onto it because you love it, not because the e36 is about to turn into the undiscovered classic.

airbag light sorted, pulled out drivers seat, unplugged all the connections, plugged them back in again, fired up the old steam powered laptop and cleared the fault code, turned key on / off a few times to confirm it was gone, bolted seat back in, job done!! Also de-glazed the rear brakes and greased the caliper sliders, so that is everything done that it failed the WOF on, back to VTNZ tomorrow to get a new list of problems.....

Joe Achilles has just reviewed the LCI version on youtube. 5.2sec 0-100 pretty impressive for a 2 ton single turbo diesel. I wish they made the 540d in RHD, the Alpina D5 is sedan-only.

Agree they're very cool, it's a massive car in person though

Totally off topic I know, but this is one of the coolest wagons I have seen from BMW for some time. https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/listing/2865656305?bof=PBxGCGeC

That's a nice example, and a reasonable deal. To be honest the light interior isn't too bad. It certainly shows up a few brown marks but mainly on the plastics rather than the leather. Perhaps it would be different if you wore new denim jeans with automotive grease on them? The F10/F11 also feels more like a Mercedes than a BMW to drive I think. They are very big and floaty with light steering. They do go around corners very well, especially with the 4WS, but they don't feel anything like an E87 for example.

So according to my laser measurements and some emails the engine will fit and actually be able to be dropped a little if I go for a Dailey Engineering dry sump pan which is less than an inch thick. This will also mean I can use the stock cross member and steering rack fitment which would be a massive bonus. I'll start drafting something to Santa now ...

Bring it over and have a cuppa. I'll scare it in to behaving.

At this point, I think you should ask to return the car. Honestly seems like they sold you a lemon. I'm not generally one to give up on a car over a couple issues as I know that's just life, but I find it hard to imagine they didn't notice serious issues with this one before selling it.

What’s the obsession for emissions testing at WOF? A system already too by the book and over regulated. (Maybe I’ve been spoilt after living in WA for the last 8 years where there is no WOF type system, even for heavy vehicles. It seems to work pretty bloody well.) Is this so faux environmentalists can pat each other on the back in their circle jerk while thinking they’re saving the planet? The result will be more regulation and cost. Cost for those who can afford it the least. Or aren’t able to afford it at all.
