wiring geeks check my schematics please!
hotwire replied to _ethrty-Andy_'s topic in Electrical system
Yep ^^^^^^ what he said. I too would only use one relay - a 40 amp one & run the switch wire as prescribed above. One thing to note though, I cant remember if the late Hiace's run conventional lighting circuit or insulated return as in the earlier models. If insulated return, to confuse things - you will need to tap the relay wire into the low beam wire to get the relay to operate on high beam. You can tell if insulated return system by confirming if one or two lamp terminals are live at one time. this system powers the filament common & earths either low or high beam through the dip switch. Means what ever filament is not on - the other will be sitting at open circuit - 12v, this is enough to power the relay. -
E30 Racecar Engine Swap.. with a difference..
hotwire replied to E30 325i Rag-Top's topic in Projects
Looking good Jon BUT - you should have painted the engine bay first... -
Also, are you sure it doesn't have air bags in the rear doors & roof pillars? 2000> E39's generally had 10 air bags fitted. That said - I don't know if all did:-

Angle grinder - too fast! I have a Hitachi sander/polisher. It is two speed & designed for both actions. Looks like an angle grinder but is not
-
I may still have some, will check
-
Be aware you need to upgrade to a 16:9 video module too
-
I always ran them in the ultrasonic bath with them connected to the flush machine to pulse them during the process. Before putting in the bath i removed the pintel caps & filter baskets & filled them with the caustic fluid from the top - keeping them "wet" while running. Never had an issue. Wish I still ahd access to it.

GOLD!!! The statement that is...
-
Edit, you are correct for some older vehicle fuel gauge systems

How full & how empty does it show? To extremes? If so- would mean completely open circuit & short circuit. Have you traced the wiring? Hard to imagine a wiring issue causing extremes though

Yes monitoring can be turned off. LCM Needs recoding with Navcoder or similar. Or - fix the problem
-
Yep, that one is no good. A unit in place of the CD changer or can connect AV into the video module

Voltage drop not triggering reverse camera relay
hotwire replied to jcerecke's topic in Electrical system
^^^^^ Definitely not. Supplies all come from LCM. Also he hasn't wired it in series - he has battery voltage (close to) across it -
Not quite sure I understand your first statement - works on all doors & ign but wont lock drivers door? Anyway, as far as door locking - turning the key to horizontal position & removing puts the car into deadlock. There are also (I think for E30's inc) master keys & valet keys - the master controlling everything (doors, ign, boot, glovebox), the valet allowing access to doors & ign only

Voltage drop not triggering reverse camera relay
hotwire replied to jcerecke's topic in Electrical system
As mentioned, the 12v relay will trigger at 9 + volts so the voltage you mention is not the issue. Also, depending on battery voltage, the voltage at the rear with key on, no engine could well be down to 11v What about your earth? -
Where I used to work a few years ago we had the eqiupment. To service injectors correctly requires putting them in the test machine - running a flush through them while checking/comparing spray patterns, flow rates, checking for leakdown. Then removing filter baskets, pintel caps & running in the ultrasonic bath. Replace filters, pintel caps & O rings, rerun through the test machine rechecking the above. Looking for even spray pattern & flow rates & obviously no leakdown. Using proper machine allows running a variable control pressure & firing time - meaning they can be checked under duress. And yes, we were charging $40 + GST per injector. Putting in perspective though - the machine cost/ fluid cost & labour spent on each service - the cost was reflective
-
Yes you need either a proper interface unit or you can cheapskate with a handful of relays
-
Yes fix/get it fixed. Certainly not a major repair. the slam rail may even pull straight, otherwise pretty straight forward to replace
-
No it is not a straight forward case of inserting a disc. The Jap system is totally aliien to the rest of world. The hardware too needs changing & programming to the car before inserting an NZ map disc. Only oufit that I am aware of in NZ able to do the job is SW Automotive - a sponser on here. They can reprogramme the radio too AFAIK
-
I seriously doubt you will solve the problem by adding more sound deadening. A vibration is a vibration & will need resolving
-
Who did the repair Tim? Were they able to confirm it working after repair & clear the codes? It looks like it is still faulty & is corrupting the car. From experience - not all of them can be repaired - mine was one. No it will not require recoding if it is the original module. A replacement unit does though

Shite time flies. Bit scary that that was 3 yrs ago! Well done Glenn & like the attitude

Saw the car there Tony, although not you. Looks bloody great in the flesh - a project very well done
