  1. lol Well I don't know the solution I'm afraid but this might be the right one for a DIY? https://www.ebay.com/itm/D130-Rear-View-Mirror-Repair-Kit-For-BMW-3-5-7-X3-X5-X6-E46-E90-E91-E92-E60-E83/122092622110 But as I say, I don't really know. If there's ANY chance of it leaking then put a towel under it to prevent damage. And tell your wife missus off for inappropriate gifts.
  2. Okay, I see the problem. You can fix that by snipping the two white cords with a pair of scissors.
  3. Might be a dumb question, I don't know my E39's, but what's the difference between a M5 and say a 540 grill? Same part number is listed for all... http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/partxref?id=DE92-EUR-12-2002-E39-BMW-M5&mg=51&sg=20&diagId=51_2258&q=51132497261&series=E39
  4. What's failing? I don't know how to fix it but if it's the same problem as the E46 mirror do NOT let it leak out onto your console, it will ruin it.
  5. 1,360 days since my last cigarette and I've saved $20,410 at the old price since then! Yes, there's an app for that. It's about $30 for a pack of 20 now isn't it?!?!? Power to you Kyu, you'll feel much better once you get over the hump! ?
  6. I didn't realise there was a specific exemption, is there a time limit on that?
  7. Ouch. Looks like a project and most of the body work was already done! Lots of yum on that one and anyone with an E36 sedan could really step up with that interior (full Nappa leather). And those contour wheels are the biz, is there 5 of them? And an S50B30... lovely. Do you know the back story Brent? Sad to see it go.
  8. Sounds like a failing pulley to me. You can loosen the belts and spin them by hand to check.
  9. I was thinking of wrapping it in Gladwrap and then securing that with duct tape, should be good for another 150k I reckon.
  10. Cheers Andrew. Am looking at options for a pre-loved replacement, if I can get one for a reasonable cost I'll probably run with that but if not, I'll tap you on the shoulder. If I even thought about taking this one to a track it would refuse to start I'm sure!
  11. Yeah, BMW will want the job so I'd just call them and tell them your story and what you need from them, I'm sure they'll try and help.
  12. Yes, I suspected as much, thanks Glenn. First step is to drain it, clean it all up and have a proper look. In parallel pricing up the replacement bits. Lucky I've got time on my hands at the moment! But I'm losing cold beer fast, no mains power to the house and Vector says the feed to the property is fine... main line is buried under the 25m concrete driveway... yay.
  13. Got an M52 oil pan by any chance?
  14. It's really small actually... I wonder what my options are?
  15. So, hit a rock/brick on the motorway and it split the oil pan. It's only a tiny fracture, I wonder if it can be fixed in-situ?
  16. Not bad enough to dump all of the oil. I wasn't able to get get it up today so will do so tomorrow and have a closer look. I do have a stick of JB Weld... I'll call insurance tomorrow, IIRC I have a $500 excess and if that's the case I'm likely to attempt it myself, I do have access to an engine brace/support though.
  17. Discovered that the massive rock or brick I hit on the motorway in the dead of the night in the 328 did indeed do some damage... Sump is split... any tips? Replacement seems like a bitch.
  18. All pics in this thread should now be fixed. Thanks heaps Dropbox and Photobucket for killing directing linking... ? And what a PITA with the new forum software and no source editing!
  19. And their front of office is straight out of the 80's! Doesn't seem to affect the powdercoating though!
  20. These guys on the Shore have done most of my work and nothing has ever cost me more than $30. http://www.mikestan.co.nz/ However that's a bit far away from you, I reckon @aja540i might have some suggestions...
  21. Distilled (demineralised) water is essential, you're correct, you can't use only filtered water. Demineralised water is available from most supermarkets in 6l or 10l containers for around $7. Obviously if it's pre-mixed you don't need to worry about that but a concentrate is easier to move and store. Being all alloy you need to isolate if from other non-alloy metal in the car (like the chassis, frame, panels etc) but it should be isolated anyway if installed correctly, just make sure that's the case. If you're hanging an oil cooler off the bottom, make sure that fits before you install the whole lot - that's difficult but essential as many have the mounts but can't take the cooler anyway (lazy design).
  22. I suspect you'll have trouble with the airbag. Instead, can you take the buttons from an e46 wheel and install them into yours? They won't do anything of course but the cover might fit. This is what they do for the e39 -> e36 setup, they carry over the buttons, not the whole wheel.
