E46 Suspension install - did I do something wrong?
M3AN replied to Sammo's topic in Brakes, Suspension & Steering
@Sammo NP. Don't get to hung up on the writing... it took twice as long as it should have to install the Eibach springs on my M3 because I was convinced the writing should be the "correct" way up... it's isn't, the writing is "upside down" and they're installed correctly. Can you link to the shocks you got? The only AP's I can find (here) have an integrated lower (captive) spring perch, painted the same colour as the shock, yours (the silver bits) look like they're added on... can you confirm? -
E46 Suspension install - did I do something wrong?
M3AN replied to Sammo's topic in Brakes, Suspension & Steering
With my rather uneducated eye, I've only replaced e36 suspension, I can offer: Use the same endlinks and no preload required on the swaybar. You will get a clunk if your endlinks are stuffed or not bolted up real tight. Bumpstops look fine, you'd only need to trim them if you hit them too often, regardless they won't cause a noise. I don't think those springs look seated properly. In pic 1 the spring needs to rotated clockwise until the end of the coil (bottom) rests up against the step in the perch. On pic 2 it almost looks like the spring or perch is installed upside down because you can't rotate the spring to sit against that step... are the springs asymmetrical, is it even possible to install them upside down? FWIW. -
My AVIN unit actually gets better as I get more used to it. The only less-than-perfect use case is if you listen to the radio a lot (as I do) because the AVIN unit can't control the (non-digital) radio. If we had DAB that problem wouldn't exist. 10" touch screen is utterly amazing, surprisingly so. You 100% absolutely MUST get the 4GB unit, ideally Android 9 or above. I had a 2GB unit and it really sucked, Android kept closing background apps (like the Bluetooth stack, or the phone, or the music app) because it kept running out of memory so it was useless. They're all clones but AVIN provides pretty good after-sales service and I certainly needed it.

It's cosmetically less than perfect but mechanically sound and drives like a dream! Only code is radiator flap which is nothing.

I thought the first action DSC took was reducing power, followed by applying the brakes? I certainly know DSC can control engine output so I wouldn't be too quick to rule it out. @DreDurk - that's a lot of codes... keep a copy, clear them all, start car, stop car, check codes, keep a copy, clear all codes, go for a drive (to the point where the car is at operating temp) and then check codes again... what are you left with? Obviously only take if for a drive if it sounds okay.
-
If the car originally came with a screen and iDrive controller then you need to end up with both (even if both are replaced). You can't go from IDrive (regardless of CCC or CIC) to non-iDrive without a lot of coding and cabling. So your want to keep CCC working. You replacement HU should plug into the CCC (and probably optical) connections.

That's ^ a digital terrestrial TV controller, see the links below. Unfortunately it looks like there's a lot more than just the box you pictured so unwinding it all back out of the vehicle might be a nightmare. https://www.croooober.com/en/item/cparts/00000121/Digital-Tuners-Full-Seg/8922715/DataSystem-Hi-Vision-HIT-7700 http://yahoo.aleado.com/lot?auctionID=n278361884

Heaps of people have done that already, check out 1addicts and babybmw forums for all the pics and DIYs. You can make a significant difference by opening up and modifying the back box, you need to be careful where you cut though.

Yep. See the pics in my 130 thread of my exhaust.
-
It doesn't seem worth worrying about unless they quote a whole bunch of images. And yes, the notification usecase is valid and valuable. Avoid quoting images and we should be fine.
-
I might be able to do a good set without inserts if that would suit. Not a promise but I can take a closer look and pics for you.
-
No sh*t stirring, no whinge, nothing to sell, not sure what you're on about actually Martin.
-
Sorry no. If that was a subtle reference to another thread then I'm pissing myself, if not then happy coincidence. I will be selling an average quality full M-Rain e36 M3 interior though... I'm returning mine to stock after that one went for $37k.
-
That surprises me. Is it advertised anywhere else? I think it would go pretty quick on TM for ~$9k, maybe slightly more. On a slow burn you might get 11 or 12. Kiwi's scared of high miles eh? Maybe I buy it once I sell the blue one! ?
-
*cough* So that where they got the idea for that god-awful active tourer from!
-
I wonder what all those broken and damaged e36 bits that I just didn't have the heart to throw out will be worth? Like 3 sets of incomplete coupe door cards! ?
-
I'd prefer a blue one Kyu but I'd have to swap all the bits over! At least I can compare mine to stock at my leisure. A Bimmersporter was bidding and had I known that I probably wouldn't have played. He can have first option. I'll get it home, give it a good looking over, plug it in to the computer and probably do an oil and filter change and go from there.

Lovely example, I have intake envy. Did you find somewhere that still has RHD BMWP handbrake boots? I've been looking for ages. I also like the front velocity splitters and have been eyeing them up (in black FRP only though but I've not yet found them with reasonable shipping from China, where did you get yours from?
-
Nup, didn't expect to win if for that. I have no idea what I'm going to do with it but it's for sale.
-
Can we get any traffic stats? I can do basic hosting calculations.
-
Damn... I didn't think I'd win this... anyone need a 130i? @Cammsport ??? ? Edit: now I'm bummed I sold those 17's... ?
-
Does it have aftermarket or custom headlights or bulbs of any kind? Did the inspector give you any additional information? That's a very, very weird fail if the car has passed previously.
-
Depends on the adjustment, I'm surprised the WoF shop didn't fix it there and then. Any mechanic can adjust a headlight, it's also possible to do it yourself without any special tools. What adjustment is required?

"A statement of the luxury class: the new BMW X7 is the elegant fusion of presence and personality. Despite its majestic appearance, it gives an impression of lightness and agility thanks to the puristic design and athletic styling. At the same time, the considerable spaciousness of the interior offers a pioneering interplay of exclusivity, functionality and freedom – incomparable comfort all the way to the third row of seats." ??? And they use the words "charm" and "elegance" to describe it. ??
