Saw an i8 turning into Cornwall Park or thereabouts from Manukau Rd on Saturday. Looked amazing but one of it's LED DLRs wasn't working. I guess that's what happens when your car's made of recycled lentils.

Just got my MID back from Kerry. He's done a fantastic job. Very happy.
-
I prefer the 2 piece ones that came as standard on a lot of E31s.... Great wheels, but prefer the 18" M parallels!
-
And I'll have a box of cask wine ready for when you win a race!!
-
Google has revealed that there's more going on with that 8er than just the Eisenmann exhaust. Loads of other Eisenmann 850i exhaust clips... none sound like that car! But I do like it!!
-
Doesn't he prefer them to exit through the bonnet?
-
Let's talk next week, Josh!

TBH, I'm pretty happy with mine. Of course it could sound better, but it sounds a helluva lot better than it did when I bought it and quite a bit better than most of the 8s I've heard!

It would be nice wouldn't it... http://ind-distribution.com/wheels/BMW-E31-8-Series-Eisenmann-Performance-Exhaust-B5241.00831%5E187.php

I could get it sounding more exotic with a $3000 exhaust like that one! The Magnaflows sound good but more American than Euro and definitely NOT exotic. Alan's csi with the race exhaust sounds pretty good.

Keen to see this in the flesh, Milan. Can't imagine it's happening in Westmere driveway. Where's this project holed up?
-
Really growing to like the M70, Mike. Though do wish I'd found a reasonably priced M73 manual or 5 speed 8er. They'd be spectacular!!
-
Yep. Something pretty much. Sadly, I think it'll be some wee while before I can restore the original colour or buy a set of Oz Futura 3 piece wheels (or similar).
-
Love 'em on the E38 and they have a very similar spoke pattern to my RSIIs which looked perfect on my E39 but just doesn't look right to me on the 8. I think the concave dish wheels really suit cars with a flared arch (think E46 M3 CSL!) which the E38 and E39 have, but the E31 doesn't have flares so it suits a thick-lipped dish. Doesn't get much better than this:

Don't think they'll make it handle any better but I should get extra 10-15bhp
-
Great wheels and I'm very grateful for the loan but I wouldn't pick them for the 8. 8er wheels look best with a decent wide lip IMO.
-
Same as most bimmers, except the E39, 72.6mm. Not sure why they decided to use a different centre bore on the E39.
-
Big thanks to James (Boowhup) who - in the spirit of the Bimmersport community - loaned me a set of BBS RCs despite never meeting me before. So my M pars have gone off for refurb and the car is going to sit on these for a few days: Also, been trying to get the rear diffuser sorted. Oddly the car has been pre-drilled for the M-tech diffuser but it seems that it is at the wrong height as the diffuser is angled slightly oddly. Will sort in the next week or two. Also discovered the spare wheel is from a totally different car (judging by the centre bore I'd guess an E39) and won't fit without a hubcentric ring, so will probably just look for a correct size spare. You can see the PO's paint job didn't get below the carpet line...
-
Thanks Darren. Hopefully sorted and being done while I'm in Aus next week. Will post results when finished.
-
Thanks Tristan... Still a few major headaches but she's getting there and went well on the track last weekend. Despite brakes and suspension that need some work! Can't wait til she's handling properly once more.

Sorry, had my sarcasmeter switched off!

20 years of the E39 next year. Any other important anniversaries??
-
Have just sent an 18 button MID to Kerry for repairs. Quoted a very reasonable $150 (tracked shipping is only $5). Will post results.

Recommendations for a good grooming/detailing place in Auckland

Final touch are a complete rip off and total cowboys. Used them once, disputed payment because the job was so bad and they refused to make it good. Would never go near them again. -
I got a set of 4 OE (Brembo, I think) rotors for my 540i for around $450 from a dealer. $560 per rotor is ridiculous. Try some other BMW parts specialists starting with Bimmersport sponsors such as HellBM, EuroItalian, BM World, etc. Failing that try Milland.
