  1. Forgive my ignorance but would it still crank normally with a bad ground? EDIT: okay, have just read that bad ground can mean that when the engine cranks voltage to igniters can drop below required so they don't fire. Just wondering how rain would affect the ground strap. Wouldn't an issue like that present itself all the time not just post-wet weather? Not saying you're wrong, just trying to eliminate possible causes.
  2. Also need to fix a start issue. Car wouldn't start after being left outside at New Year's in those two days of heavy rain. Cranking but not firing. I had to wait a couple of days for it to dry out. Presuming a cracked distributor cap but I visible water in the bay apart from a small amount under the fuse box (though nothing in the box). Any other possible causes?
  3. No experience of interior spray painting but plenty with other paints. I'd recommend gradually watering and testing on a piece of spare plaster board until you feel comfortable with the finish.
  4. Finally got round to fitting the secondhand springs I picked up. Not stupidly low but a drop of around 2 inches (and counting as it's still settling)... which goes to show how ridiculously high it was before! Rears were easy, fronts a bit more of a pain and required some swearing. Bought some stock bumpstops and cut them down... because I'm cheap and didn't want to pay $60 each for m tech ones. Not happy with the dirt but ran out of daylight so obsessive cleaning will have to wait. Job done: Before After:
  5. At what age can I expect mine to start doing this?

    BMW goes self drive

    This will please Ron.
  7. Parked to do some last minute Xmas shopping and this followed me in. Owner was a nice guy and has appropriately had the E24 for 24 years!
  8. Haven't had much time for toy making lately but have just bagged and rat rodded a 2014 Dodge Challenger for my wife. She's always complaining that it's not fair I get to have my dream car and she prefers yank tanks... Let's hope 1/18 is good enough!!

Have you got a working air con compressor?
  10. Good to meet you yesterday, Dave. The 750 looks fantastic and was a standout at the meet for me. Actually, a standout because it wasn't a golf or 3 series!!! Big cars FTW!!
  11. What you need is a great big water tank for the windscreen washer in the boot then like the 850i. You might wonder why they didn't try and make the front a bit lighter instead of compensating with extra weight... But who cares cos it feels awesome!!!!

If I bought a set of Louis Vuitton luggage, the first thing I'd do is buy some fake Louis Vuitton badges and stick them on it.
  13. These are RHD, Glenn. LHD are useable without modification but with reduced visibility. The angle's not ideal.

Classic. Was about to remove the fan and found a present from the previous owner. This must have been in since I bought 8er a year and a half ago. I guess a bump must have moved it so that it began interfering with the fan. The good news is the fan is fine. No more clattering noise!! Was right underneath so never noticed it before. Don't think the wife will be pleased when she finds out this was the reason we drove back from Napier on the hottest day of the year with no AC!!!
  15. Sorry. C n P'd from Facebook and forgot the price! Added now.
  16. Brand new aftermarket M3 sedan mirrors and glass. High quality reproduction and fitment is good. Electric adjustable, non-heated. Unpainted. Bought to adapt for my E31 but haven't got round to it. Subsequently picked up some coupe mirrors which a better size baseplate to adapt to E31. Will not fit coupe. Should add at least 20bhp to your 320i especially if you couple with some ///M badges. $200, maybe less if I like ya.
  17. I'll take the idle control valve (and the basket weaves if their for sale!!) Also, if you have the intake boot (with no cracks) that connects to the MAF, I'd be very keen!

But then there'd be nothing to aspire to, Mike! With that logic all 3 series should leave the factory looking like an M3! You're right though, it makes a big difference over stock and modernises it considerably. Though the stock spoiler was a lot happier at this ride height!!

Drove to Napier and back this weekend - just under 1000kms round trip - and it was an absolute pleasure. So much grip in the twisties it's insane and more than enough power to make the very best of the steep uphill passing lanes between Taupo and Napier. Engine absolutely purred and managed a 12.7L/100 average despite some spirited driving. That may not sound that flash but is pretty amazing compared to the 24L/100 she sits on with my general weekend use! Unfortunately, the AC compressor developed a death rattle halfway. I'm picking failed clutch bearing as the same thing happened to my old E39. Probably cheaper to replace the unit than repair, so hoping I can find a good used one. It was stinking hot in the Bay, so it was a tad sweaty on the return journey but that's what the big pillarless coupe windows are for. I am deaf now though and my hair looks like Kramer from Seinfeld. Forgot to take the camera so had to rely on phone pics...
