try disconnecting it for a few days and see if that solves it, where in the roof was rust done? if a wire to a courtesy light has had the insulation melted off it might cause an issue.

New temp sender?
-
I believe my m5 has it, bit hard to check it though!

If you talk to ADL or someone similar they should be able to tell you what size tube it will need, might be worth a phone call? Also any modification to the driveshaft has to be done properly for a cert, so usually easiest to get someone like that to do the whole thing.
-
I think you might find the tube has to be quite a bit bigger to handle the torque over that length without bowing. What would the advantage be?

So i had a radiator re-cored for the e21 about 15 years ago, been in storage since, i install it this morning and it @#$/^& leaks! Why cant sh1t just last forever!!!

Pretty economical for its ability to haul a$$ !!!500NM @ 2000rpm

There's already a piece of metal missing, the balance is irrelevant now. I doubt that the amount of metal we are talking about, that close to the centre of rotation, will have a noticeable effect on the balance. If you were really worried you could get it rebalanced afterwards!

I know which end gets hot! If you get a replacement and want me to have a go at fixing this one i can, worst case scenario i cant do it and you get it back still broken!
-
Tricky but not impossible. I would probably want to do a test run on a spare before saying i could do it!
-
You could tig weld an allen key to the end of it then cut it so it leaves a short hexagonal piece there, what diameter is that shaft?
-
I use the BMW stuff, its not that expensive and it has mixing ratios on the bottle! I don't think you need 50/50 in our climate but it wont hurt.

Made some more progress on the e21, got the bonnet fitted properly, got the heater fan sorted, changed out the coil so there are sparks, and powdercoated the rocker cover, also fitted the alternator, and discovered an oil leak in the sump gasket! Gotta love old cars.

I dont trust the AA guys totally, one of them tested my system when they had to jump start my 540, told me the alternator wasnt charging, i put a new battery in it and 4 years later it is still fine! Any competent auto sparky should be able to check it for you and tell you the problem. -

Those new automatic chargers wont do anything unless they can detect a battery, it sounds like yours is too far gone to detect. If you have an old style charger it will just throw 12 volts at no matter what, but it sounds like it might be time for a new battery. -
I can sell you a 540 touring that will tow it beautifully!

Too far from the trigger wheel to see it?
-
Might be easier if i can come around and check , pm me if that suits, or i can just buy the whole hinge assembly if its easier.
-
Yes, and full of holes. I pinched 2 off the project to get the other project under way, but am still keen to get more.

Bugger. There are so many cowboys out there and it looks like you found a couple! If you dont have a regular mechanic that you trust it can be a gamble, a good start is to make sure they are an MTA member, it gives you something to fall back on if you have a problem, even better is to get some recommendations, say from a forum or something! They cannot do work they haven't been authorised to do and then just expect you to pay up, but you can't be vague when you tell them what to do "give it a service" means different things to different places. When i was working on cars we would spend time with the customer and write a list of exactly what we were going to do and tape it to the steering wheel while they were there. I would negotiate the minimum amount you have to pay them and walk away, treat it as a life lesson and start again. Im sure everyone on this forum can recommend where to take it next time.

if you floor it when you leave Hamilton the boost will just be coming on when you get to the Bombays, perfect!
