@EURO V12 he's in the bit where the guys mugging you wear suits
-
I have a serial port too. Everything else I remember reading says ADS + USB = No I won't annoy him with this, I am about to lump him with two broken desktops with a request to recover data haha Yo @hotwire are we on the right track here? Or don't you know coz you only use the real deal
-
I was thinking something like these guys have. To start with, anyway! Like @Olaf, I'm not looking to set the world on fire- fault codes and maybe some options fiddling (auto-up windows while door open etc) This assumes the Interwebs is right, and there's no kind of US specific nonsense around this issue for us in NZ! This 5h1t is starting to hurt my brain

Why no love for the poor 520... From BimmerFest, "Note that E39s (built from 1998 onward), do NOT use the ADS interface"
-
The 520i is a 1998 model and has "Pac-man", the 530i's are early 2003 and very much 16pin OBD2, no pacman to be seen there I'm thinking a K-Line cable with an additional Pacman to serial adapter for the older car
-
So just to add to all this confusion- I'm running Win10 64bit and also have a serial port
-
Cheers for that Dave. Sadly (or not) the laptop I was going to use isn't that old. I'll give Andy a bell, he was talking about old laptops going cheap for this job a while ago
-
Huh good timing with all the info guys. I had just decided to start looking at getting a tool for my fleet of E39s

You understand the need to render those unsafe DarkThunderDragon tires unuseable to anybody else, right? Skids

This would be an upgrade from the factory cupholders, in that they look like they may actually work. They are a bit spendy, though... I recently replaced mine with original items- not because I actually use 'em, but it bugged me that they were broken. I think it would be a shame to loose the space in front of the gearshift.

I honestly don't know how dealers do it, the sheer f***wittery on display with some of the questions asked- What has it been used to tow, when was the cambelt changed... Srsly. Fools.
-
I was quoted $800-odd for a local, mobile guy who would come to me and do it on my driveway

#BMWlife have two in bits and the other one needs pulling to bits What the hell do Toyota drivers do with all this spare time they must have is what I want to know
-
The "Key in ignition lock" message is displayed in one of our Tourings whenever the key is put into the ignition. Some sort of Japan spec reminder that could probably be coded out??? E39s do have quite large batterys, the ones in our two Tourings are only 60CCA smaller than the big John Deere on farm here- the Tourings are cold weather package tho

I bought an E30 from this dealer a while ago, very honest and upfront One of these went for over 10K a year ago ($1 res auction too), so I wouldn't be too sure about a cheap deal

Sounds like you have smoked a cone

e39 535i with three pedals
Young Thrash Driver replied to SmithyInWelly's topic in TradeMe discussions
The dealers website says 5K Who isn't busy tomorrow? Could be a rare opportunity to drive a manual E39, even if it has squishy wheels and suspension -
I don't buy it. Sure things are changing, but I'm still waiting for the flying cars my old man was promised Alan- as a German the author of the article will not go there. In the western world we have a couple of children per family and birthrates are falling- can you see any German willing to put his head over the parapet and demand brown and yellow people have less children?

Something about middle-aged blokes indie and alt music thread
Young Thrash Driver replied to Olaf's topic in Off-Topic
Keep this thread going guys, I really enjoyed Killing Joke- thanks! A little older than Olaf's specified period but I do like a bit of Blue Oyster Cult. Some of the stuff they were doing was leading edge at the time. -
That's a bit rude, a lot of old WWII hand grenades will still actually do what they were designed to do Paul, I think the comment was directed at the engine, not the chassis.

Certified Road Legal and E30 Series Compliant 318
Young Thrash Driver replied to LemonHunter's topic in TradeMe discussions
$16K for a 318, this E30 tax is outta control -
Dodgy af... as the Facebook people say!

Remember to bring a mate in a spare car also, video would be cool!
