    Quick Questions

Last time I got one it was from the dealer, and it was pretty reasonable too. Always worth a check to see if it's worth shopping around, if it's cheap enough I prefer OEM.
  3. Got a WoF on the $321 car. Almost a cleansheet, just some wheels need re-arranging (205s on one side, 195s on the other haha ooops didn't notice that!)
  4. I stand corrected. They do look good in yellow.
  5. Not as rare as it thinks it is?

    The $300 E36

Not entirely sure I'll even keep this car for it, might go for a quick sell and find a more suitable starting point. It is ridiculously gutless, but a manual gearbox may improve that. I've never had anything so small and I'm coming from my daily driver being a 4L manual falcon...If I keep it I might look at going down the m50 route. Just need to find a cheap one haha. Last time I did the intermarques was in my old e30 320i with full cage and race series suspension, but I'm trying to do it way more budget this time!

    The $300 E36

Not entirely sure... haven't had it out of the driveway, but considering it almost stalls when I turn the headlights on....

    The $300 E36

So I've been wanting a new project for a while now. Stumbled upon a broken down E36 advertised on facebook. It had broken down at someone else's house, and from what I gather he was told to get it gone. So $300 later and it was mine, being towed back home behind the falcon (short distance and very slowly due to the auto). In the garage it went, and so it stayed for a couple of days. It was starting, but refused to idle. Would run fine with a little throttle, but as soon as it was removed it stalled immediately. So after lots of googling and forum searching, and some helpful suggestions from on here I narrowed it down to most likely being the AFM, or the ICV or both. $21 of CRC MAF and a couple of hours later and I had myself a running $321 1994 E36 318i auto. So the plans from here, slightly inspired by Andy and his $100 compact, are to get it a manual conversion and build it into a club race car, mainly targeting the intermarque sprint series, looking to compete in the first round next year. Anyway, what's a thread without pictures:
  9. Took apart intake, cleaned AFM and ICV, removed some old alarm wiring while I was there, re-assembled.... 800rpm idle, one $321 running 94 318i auto.

    Quick Questions

Airpipes all look good. Car runs exactly the same with the AFM disconnected, I've cleaned it but still no go. Might have to try a known good one, but until then I have to figure out where to find the ICV and PCV now haha Edit: Found ICV, soaked in $21 of CRC MAF cleaner. Re-assembled, starts and idles at 800ish rpm. Purrs like a kitten (with tappety tappets lol)

    Quick Questions

Don't think it's the fuel pump... although could still be. It starts fine with a bit of gas, and runs fine with throttle. As soon as you try let it idle it will die. Sounds like it's running sweet as when its revving, although there is some popping, but I'd guess thats partly from sitting around for a while. Edit: Some more playing around, got it idling, hunting really bad! Suspect AFM as I pulled the plug off and no change. Might go get some AFM cleaner and do the ICV at the same time.
  12. If you are still looking I can check the one on the car I just bought. I won't be needing it. My family is in Porirua, so I'm down those ways regularly.
  13. Bought it. Towed it home. 96 318i fro $300, couldn't say no!

    Quick Questions

Thanks, that's given me somewhere to start looking. I've had a few fuel pump failures before, I knew I recognised the symptoms but wasn't sure why.

    Quick Questions

E36 318i starts but then cuts out straight away (second the starter releases pretty much). Where do I start? I'm new to E36s, M20 is the extent of my knowledge so far haha
  16. Looking for a new project, quite keen to build a new track car. I have a budget of approx $600 to start with, so looking for something around that... eg rolling shell, blown motor, blown auto (preferred option!). E30 or E36 Palmerston North or within 2hrs travel. Don't mind if it's gonna be a lot of work, just keen to see if there is anything out there. Edit: Nevermind, got one. E36 318i for $300. Project thread to come!
  17. Andy you can chuck me up on the list now, I have engine crane, engine stand, gas less mig all in Palmy. Probably lots of other stuff too, but those are the main ones.
  18. Just bought my first home for circa $180k. Love not being in Auckland/Wellington!
  19. Harness's can be re-lifed now to twice the stated expiry, as long as they are in good condition. Depend if they are expired on date, or have been re-lifed already and expired again.
  20. Looks like a pretty fair price to me. I'd pay it if I was in the market...
  21. I don't know for sure, but you would probably find that as they have a vested interest in the vehicle, then they would probably be notified of the change of ownership by NZTA. It affects the new owner as they cannot use the vehicle as security for any borrowing they wish to do, and it's rather pointless too as the interest on the loan is normally so much, it'd be dumb not to pay it off given the chance.
  22. http://www.ppsr.govt.nz/cms/searching-the-ppsr/txtb4ubuy Easy option. There is no free option as far as I know. If that's all you are after the above is best, for further info I always go with Carjam.
  23. Indeed and the little Nissan Sunny is still going strong! Although not as useful as a mondeo wagon would've been haha.
  24. Yo dawg, I heard you liked pictures of members ride, so i put a picture of a members ride on your picture of a members ride....
  25. I've been waiting for someone to bring this up. Much HP, do want!
