The same can be said for anything really. Just google E46 318i issues, or search on here and you'll find more posts than you can handle for people having issues with them. You'd also never buy any old merc worth owning for $2500, especially a V8. They're going up in value as people realise how much better than the newer ones they are. Our 2007 Honda Fit has 213,000km on the clock, 113,000 of which is in our ownership, cost us $10k almost 10 years ago, and has never let us down. Its never needed more than fuel, oil changes, a set of plugs, a set of brakes and a couple of sets of tires. In contrast my 318ti did cost me $1050, with 156k on the clock. It has some oil leaks, and the DME got wet once when it rained (resulting in failure to start), but otherwise has a recent WOF and current reg. Goes hard for what i paid.

I think I've bought one of NZ's rarest modern(ish) sedans

Really cool engines though. Sound like a cross between a V8 and a raspy VR6. -

Ha sh*t, in my experience that means you are doomed. Some of the worst cars i've bought were from mechanics. Good luck, you may need it! -
Brembo the world.

Saw that on TM, it was even on my watchlist but even with my car history im not that brave/foolish. IIRC it had receipts for some major work done? -
Cant wait until the 118i Alpina Edition comes out....

The first gens suffer from CVT shudder, but its not terminal, just annoying. Can be masked with various additives. Manual ones are available too. Accident safety is no worse than any other car of the era. My sister was T boned at an intersection in hers, went through a fence, and walked away without a scratch. Probably safer than an E36, with better visibility.

$1000 E36 318Ti is where its at. But realistically, a cheap Honda Fit/Jazz. Reliable, cheap, hard wearing, cheap to run and spacious.

Even better is to borrow/buy a pressure tester and pressure test the heater core with just plain water in it.

Another E60 M5 on TM with the BEST opening question.......
KwS replied to Twistee's topic in TradeMe discussions
Obviously getting confused with the Audi S6/S8 which is incorrectly believed to be a lambo engine. Bloody time wasters. -
Shame my old M328i has an S54 in it now, the S50 was trucking along nicely.

Doesnt mention if it will be sold registered or not. if it gets de-reg like most damaged cars through turners, it'd be a real a**hole to get back on the road. Kinda looks either stolen or vandalised.

Looking damn good. Amazing what some care and good photos can do, compared to the previous listing.

Thats a hell of a deal in this market. So much to go wrong, but it'd be worth it. Its also in the realm of the Ks being too high for most dealers to buy and flip too, which means a genuine owner might get a chance to own it.

inb4 boat catches fire and sinks.... you know, because EV bad.
-
It's a dick move, but also a typical move for dealers, because scummy. Undercut others just so you can make a profit. Real cool.
-
Pretty sure it was the grey one that came into my old work a few years ago. I drooled over it. A lot.
-
I hope its the only one 🤮.... sorry not sorry.

Its not really misleading advertising either; they arent specifically saying this car meets the clean car tax criteria, thats a generic blurb on their profile. But car dealers will do and say almost anything to make a sale. Almost as greasy as estate agents. Almost.

You could soak those flanges in something like Evaporust, and then paint them. Might be easier than trying to get a wire brush into the crevices. I wouldnt bother stripping the diff down myself, its easy enough to wire brush the housing and paint it. You could remove the rear cover and check the condition inside.

IIRC you dont need hoops if there isnt a power increase, and you can prove all OEM parts were used in the conversion (not a custom drive shaft). Car looks amazing.Sort of thing i'd love to own, but know its way out of any realistic price range i'd pay.

Why? No proof yet of how the fire started, and no confirmation it was an EV battery, no point speculating. Its no different to any of the other times a car transport has caught fire. Could've been just as likely one of the euro ICE cars on there had an electrical failure and caught fire. All you guys are so eager to see any progress towards a new future fail.

The great iX grille debate - photoshop content ahead
KwS replied to hugo_nz's topic in General Discussion
The whole vehicle is a disgusting mishmash of shapes; the grille is just the bit that draws your eye first. -
Difference is houses sell for 700% appreciation, cars dont. That'll sit there, slowly dropping in price. The market for anyone to spend $175k on a E34 M5, even internationally, must be tiny/non-existant.

There is a big plate between the DME enclosure and heater area which is sealed around it, although there is the small drain gap at the front of it. You'd have to have litres of water in the heater area to fill it up and its quite deep. The coupe/sedan and compact firewall appear quite different where the heater fan is. Im wondering about ways to waterproof the DME. seal the casing with sealant? I can see where its been getting in.
