Having lived with a CVT for many years as a daily, its perfect for many things. No gear changes, always in the powerband, effortless acceleration, its never in the wrong gear. The CVTs that drive like an auto with "steps" are a waste of a good transmission just for the sake of pandering to idiots, basically having the worst of all worlds. As with most things in life, the majority of the CVT naysayers havent lived with one and are just regurgitating what they have read/heard.
  3. What sort of backwards hillbilly logic is that? "A burning EV makes more emissions than an ICE car, thus it is bad". Cmon now.
  4. Glad I'm not alone on that one. Ruins the clean lines.
  5. Yeah, asking 15k and having no interest in putting a new WOF on it screams "be very wary" to me. Also not keen on the rolled/pulled rear arches that are starting to rust...
  6. Shite thats a good deal for a FL manual with billys.
  7. I may have missed the bit where the owner even wants to go faster.... 🤣🤣
  8. I've driven a E36 318iS coupe and it didn't set the world alight. Like in my Compact, the 4 pot makes for a decent commuter but give me a six any day, even in auto form.
  9. If you are going to "plug the holes" for now, make sure you strip it back to bare metal as far as you can, treat the rust, paint it with something heavy in Zinc, and then fill the holes. That will at least slow the cancer in the mean time.
  10. Front seats look very dry with damage to the drivers bolster and the gear knob is falling to bits. All the important touch points. It'd tidy up, but it's asking a pretty premium price as it is.
  11. ugh that JPS livery looks so shite on it. Interior looks really tired too. Im not sure on the value tbh. It'd be a niche market for people that actually know and care what it is, everyone else will just see a four pot e36 sedan (basically the second least desirable model after the compact).
  12. Two tone is a factory style (even if this car has been painted), and i think it looks quite smart.
  13. What gauge faces did they install? Dont the GPs already have unique grey faces? A GP is one of those cars you just dont mess with, the factory did it right first time 😆
  14. Red mirrors is a GP thing, not done by a PO. A very cool car.
  15. That'd be the perfect commuter for me. Plenty of range for the round trip even if I gunned it everywhere (as if you wouldn't), damn cool styling and the simplicity of not worrying if it will start. Wonder what it's worth, since 20k isn't reserve.
  16. Are nzdm BMWs designed to run on 91 detuned like some other new cars are (compared to overseas markets that require higher octane)?
  17. Agreed, my stage 2+ E91 was stupid to drive. Yes, it passed anything, anywhere, anytime, but it was very much at the risk of my licence/jail. Around town it was far too much power to use. It was pointless.
  18. Thats a dream world. Maybe if you were single and prepared to live in a busy cbd in an apartment (ugh yuck to both) but the chances of both people in a household working within 5km of home? ha!
  19. Im tempted to upgrade to one of these, its a shame there is no PHEV option as that would tick every box for us.
  20. I seem to recall when i looked into one ages ago, the 125i is detuned/nerfed 130i, and a few external engine parts are different between the two, like the inlet manifold. You can swap those parts out, remap it and make more power. When buying parts i'd use your VIN in RealOEM to make sure you get the correct parts.
  21. Yeah thats not going to happen, my job is specific to the company I work for, so not like I can just go somewhere else. Same with my Wife. Public transport is also a have. It needs to be more reliable, available and cheaper. At the moment its cheaper to drive, I get free parking at work, and I dont have to worry about some drongo with covid/rabies licking me on the train/bus. There is also no direct train link from the hutt valley to porirua, so thats out. I will go PHEV once I can afford to, just because most of my commute can be done on EV alone, but i still have the range if i want to take a trip up the country and not have to piss around charging it. Hydrogen is the future I hope for though, along with synthetic petrol replacements so I can keep running classic cars.
  22. I used to work with a Volunteer firefighter, and they were told that any Hybrid or EV that crashed and was seriously damaged, they had to wait an hour before they could touch it to save an occupant. They literally have to stand there, watching the car burn as the occupant screams at them for help. I cant see that happening, but thats what the bigwigs have told them to do. There is no standardised way to disconnect the HV side of the battery and make it safe. Manufacturers do make the information available, but who is going to sit there on their phone, watching someone burn to death, searching a site looking for the required information on each and every car?
  23. Who cares? The thread is about cheaper running, not feeling good about where the fuel comes from (in which case you wouldnt be running fossil fuel either, get a bike). This argument always comes up whenever someone recommends an EV, just like people flogging the whole "but Hydrogen isnt green so its a waste of time" when people talk about the potential for Hydrogen FCVs. 91 octane is a false economy too, most cars get better fuel economy on higher octane... so with 91 you spend less to get less KM per tank.
  24. I wonder what the colour looks like in person. Its ok in a couple of those photos, but in others it looks like dog shite.
