  1. Look into checking things like the front control arm bushes, and front strut tops as they are quite common to fail. Other common failures are power steering pumps, waterpumps, ignition system, and basically anything that has oil in it. Mine was a pain in the arse, needed a bunch of stuff fixed, wasnt that fun to drive and I really ended up hating it. My R50 (Cooper non-S) was more fun to drive as you just rode the revs and drove it at 100% everywhere. I guess with a bunch of mods you could make a base S better, but I was already into it for too much by the time I fixed all the issues.
  2. Bmw hasn't done anything right for a few years now. This iX thing is one of them imo.

    1988 BMW 535i

    Front/Rear fader, aint it?

    Quick rant thread.

God I hate the arseholes that tailgate me when I'm doing a temporary speed limit. Yes, it does make me slow down more. No, I won't speed because you want to go faster. It was really bad on my daily commute over the haywards/sh58 during all the work that's been done.
  5. Drove it to work. Didn't break down. Winning. Kinda missed E36 ownership.
  6. Honestly, when i got it it could barely get out of its own way. I swear the more i drive it hard, the better its accelerating. It needs a damn good service, and im sure the previous owners have probably been running it on 91.
  7. Picked up a spare car. Not bad for a grand with new wof and reg. Slow as anything, but gets the job done.

And then the surface around the new mound breaks up, and you end up with an even bigger pot hole with some shite in the middle of it. I miss the days of actual roading crews doing the job once and not touching it again for years.

    WTB BMW Plate

I'll never understand why people want a plate that says what the car is.... just stick some ///M stickers on it for the same effect
  10. God damn thats ugly though. The wagon is a looker. @E30 325i Rag-Top How do you buy Alpina specific parts, just through the usual BMW dealer/sources? Do they show in the normal BMW EPC or is there a specific one for Alpina?
  11. I'd say it depends on various factors. What tyres they are, what they're going on, what sort of driving they will do, and how they have been stored. Keep in mind if you don't do many km they will take a long time to wear out and end up on the car well beyond their lifespan. For some tyres 5-6 years is the expected life span, whilst some it's 10 years. I might put them on a daily zipping around town, but probably not.
  12. Too right, missed badly repaired structural rust in the A pillar on a car I recently bought just because it was raining. Got it home, in the garage where it was dry and "ah, sh*t."
  13. The only real worry for me would be that rust in the roof. Thats a solid bubble that will probably be a hole if you poked it too hard. I would also be real wary about driving it too far in its current condition, but thats just me. I dont think its ever going to be a "nice" car again, it wouldnt be worth it, but it should be a good work horse/family wagon with some work.
  14. If you do get a space saver also check the wheel bolts are suitable. Some cars run different or shorter bolts for the space saver.
  15. I have an AA Plus membership, that's my spare wheel 😅

Followed similar, except it hadnt advanced to sloshing water just oddles of condensation in the lights. Hard to be impressed when even my 13 year old Honda shopping basket has better build quality.
  18. I particularly like how they didnt disclose the repaint or replacement engine/trans until someone asked. At that money im sure you'd want matching numbers?
  19. Awkward.... 🤣 I didnt even notice it wasnt wearing them in the original photos, i thought the car came with them. Good to know though, silver is no bueno.
  20. Car is looking great, but for me is let down by the knockoff faded euro plates. Looking forward the progress updates.
  21. Better hope they didnt sweep any rust into the bin. That'll be $$$ off the price if they did.
  22. Everything is fixable, its only metal. Repair panels are available (at a cost), and its just welding. You should see what the Brits rebuild, if you think thats bad!
  23. I feel like a read somewhere that it was stored under a tarp somewhere damp, hence the rust. TBH seeing what classic Porches are worth, i dont even think that it is "top dollar". Sure, it looks bad, but its all fixable, and its RHD, live rego and rare sportomatic. If i won lotto it'd be in my garage.
  24. Low KM and jap import just do not inspire confidence.... Ignoring that, what has a nearly 30 year old car with 25,000km on the clock been doing for all that time?
  25. Ah yes it old mate with the 60k 36m3 with sh*t photos and no description.
