E36 M50 2.5 Block or cooked engine - sorted thanks
thorburn replied to richard.pykett's topic in Want to buy
I've got an m50 block from an e36. If Hamilton isn't too far away -
If you can get it to me in Hamilton i'll swap the lsd case into yours for a box. I'm assuming the current ratio isn't that favorable though Otherwise I can show you some photos and instructions to do it yourself. Charles different gearboxes have different ratios. Big turbo has nothing to do with it

It isn't the end of the world if you wreck the thread. Most people helicoil or threadsert them Can rent you the cam tool for cheap

That's good they asked for proof of ownership. I was disgusted when I last purchased a key with cash and no other background info

what offset and what tyres?

s50b32 crank wont fit in an m50/52 block. You'd need to find a US or South African s52b32 crank (or an m54b30 crank, same part).

mine is a 328. The valve I meant is part 21 here http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=BG12&mospid=47431&btnr=21_0059&hg=21&fg=10 Which headers are you using? I'll probably go with one of those flywheels if there is a next time
-
Out of interest what brand of flywheel is it? Have you removed the slave cylinder restrictor thingy majig? When I changed to a UUC flywheel there was a noticeable difference. I also removed the restrictor at the same time. The rpms would raise and drop much faster without load(clutch in). Before adding all the bolt on bits you might want to give the engine a check over. Compression and a leak down test should at least give you a good start.

What sort of sample rate will this be able to do?
-
How much do you want to spend all up. I'd say a lot of those options Would see you spending around the 10k mark Best bang for buck would be headers, a cam and a remap. Maybe 3.5K all up. No cert needed. Probably the least amount of time for the car not to be running as well

Pretty much. Different injectors have different characteristics. One that plays a small factor is injector dead time. Injectors take longer to open when the voltage is low(some longer then others). Dead time is the time it takes for the injector to start flowing after it has received a signal from the ecu. Adding forced induction isn't going to help. The injector squirts for a time based on how much air is going in. It has no idea that it is now squirting a larger amount of fuel into the amount of air it thought was going in.

Intake and exhaust valves are different sizes. 33mm intake and 30.5mm exhaust at the head. What is the reason for this? I'd of thought the height wasn't critical because of the hydraulic lifters. And as far as I can tell they've all been machined to a reasonable tolerance for this.

I got to have a bit of a perv over your car at targa. Congrats on building something so tidy that performs so well. How did you find the federals?

Cheap & Easy Brake Upgrades For E30
thorburn replied to E30 325i Rag-Top's topic in Brakes, Suspension & Steering
If you've gone to 5 stud the cheap upgrade would be to use 330mm rotors and the calipers to suit from an e46 330. -
you got scammed. There is a huge difference between sending some degreaser(or brake cleaner through injectors) and ultrasonic cleaning while the injectors are being pulsed

Where'd you get the battery from?
-
Best to talk to the machinist that will be doing the hone. I went through the same thing and was told that if you can feel it with your fingernail your better to bore and go up a piston size. Also the piston doesn't actually go higher. The wrist pin height is lower on the 2.8 pistons Top mount it so you don't need a scavenger pump.

Best of luck. Hope there is a nice chap on here who'll have some spare bolts
