  1. Discovered today that you can no longer copy and paste car photos off TradeMe Adverts. A real nuisance. Sent them a rather direct message about how I felt about this. Not likely to make any difference as they have probably made the change to stop car scammers. The Fun Police strike again.
  2. Here is the Infra-red remote pairing instructions. They are a little different to the ones you find on the interweb for the RF remotes. Infra-red key reprogamming instructions.pdf
  3. Are they 2 button keys or 3 button keys? Is it a N.Z. new E36 or a Jap Import?
  4. A part number from the label may help in the research. Maybe a photo of the label?
  5. Can't guarantee that its the same. I was doing research on 540i DME's which are Bosch on NewTIS. One day it was all there and I got half way through my research, the next day and ever since its been missing. Almost as if Bosch has pulled the IP.
  6. The O2 sensor errors, are they the exceeded tolerance ones. Meaning that you have a vacuum leak. If so, find and fix the vacuum leak and the misfire may just go away.

    WTB E46 CD53

Looking for a E46 CD player type CD53. The one with the scan/mode button on the right hand side. Been trying to get the BlueBus bluetooth module to work on the E46 with CD changer prep without success. Looks like the CD53 I have is too old. Not looking at spending a fortune as the option of a modern stereo with Bluetooth will soon look good.
  8. Are you still on Run Flat tyres? They tend to make the ride a little harsh.
  9. Welcome to the forum. Its always good to see another Z owner here.
  10. Yep, been there done that. Daughters E46 is a Jap import with IR remote locking. We ended up buying a second key from BMW. The one without the IR remote locking, lots cheaper. A very good second key to get you out of the crap when you loose the main key. The only way to get a fully functional IR master key is to go to BMW and bend over for the $. Should you need it, attached is the pairing procedure for the IR keys. Its got one extra step that the normal pairing instructions for the RF keys don't have. 11. Hi Jake, welcome to the forum. What year or model is your 320? It will help in fault finding. Do you have a scanner for the car? Knowing if there are any trouble codes helps. Some BMW's need to have the battery registered to the car so the charging is right. It will not stop the starting of the car. Some older BMW's will loose the link (ISN number) between the DME (engine computer) and EWS (security system) when the battery plays up. So, knowing the model/year of your car helps lots.
  12. Z3's have a manual height adjuster dial (for loaded car) on the head lights. Situated on the left side of the steering column, below the dash. Calibrated 0-2. I always have it on 0 and pass WOF's easily. Has someone had a play with the dial and left it on 2?
  13. There is a cruise to Akaroa on the 26/7/20. Paul Bradfield is the main contact for the CHCH group [email protected]
  14. So you were testing for ohms back into the pre-tensioner after disengaging the safety shorting bar. The pre-tensioner didn't go off? You were lucky. I have heard of others who have had the pre-tensioner or airbag go off in front of them when doing this sort of testing. The 9V battery in the multi-meter can have sufficient energy to set them off. BMW have put the safety shorting bars there for a reason.
  15. Arh, Rookie mistake. Its, a 2.8L facelift, sorry not in any of my databases. Was worth a try.
  16. I ran the Rego through Thatcar.nz to get the Vin number of the Z3. But the plate is linked to a stolen Mazda RX7. I have several Z3 and Z4 car sales databases build up over the last 5 or so years. If you can give me a Z3 VIN number, I may have some information.
  17. Hi Nigel Welcome from Timaru. Nice cars. I'm a Z3 and E46 guy. I'll send you the contact details by PM for the Christchurch BMW club. It was only just kicking off before the lockdown and is slowly starting back up again. Regards Murray
  18. All depends on how low the car sills are and the low profile of your jack. Would need a low profile jack for a Z3. Wouldn't work for a Z4, sills just too low.
  19. I know I'm biased, but the Z3's are great fun. Especially a 3.0L even in auto. High smiles per miles factor. There is 1 Z3 3.0L manual in Auckland somewhere. Its the only one I've seen in 6 years of looking. All the rest are auto's.
  20. Many scanners only scan the engine DME and not the other modules in the car. To scan the airbag, you will need a scanner with BMW software. Here are a couple of options. - Foxwell NT530 scanner. Buy from a reputable source. There are many Chinese knock offs on E-bay that do not work. http://www.foxwelltool.com/wholesale/nt520-pro-scanner-with-bmw-software-installed.html or look on Trademe. - INPA software on an old laptop and a special cable. https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?2184573-The-Z3-Diagnostics-Thread-Instructions-Experiences-Discussions-Experimentation
  21. For the vacuum leak, also check the vacuum ports at the rear end of the inlet manifold. There are 3 ports, some are used, others are capped. The caps degrade and fall off. For your key, try the instructions attached. They are specifically for the IR remote and have an extra step that the RF remote does not need. Usually its the RF instructions that people find on the interweb. Infra-red key reprogamming instructions.pdf
  22. This photo will help you identify which type of diff you have.
  23. My two favorites are: - Mora red (looks purple) - Siena red
  24. For a modern twist on ADS, check out the Foxwell NT530 scanner with BMW software. It talks ADS/OBD1 and OBD11, so can talk to the E36 and E30 modules. http://www.foxwelltool.com/wholesale/foxwell-nt530-bmw-software-pre-loaded-with-20-pin-connector.html
  25. Haven't needed to do that yet, so haven't looked.
