Don't forget Mineral! 😂 Dravit / Oxide do look good in the sun but there are so many nice Individual greens available now too (if you're prepared to pay the extra). IOM actually looks really good on the touring.
-
@Vass the euro plinth from the original car will fit? @Hazzy i reckon it would look even better with the clear (‘euro’ ) corner lights from the parts car
-
UK import so misses a bunch of the gadgets on NZ new cars but hopefully less to go wrong (looking mainly at you, sunroof)
-
They certainly weren't my first choice @E30 325i Rag-Top but the car will be out of comission til 12th Jan otherwise. I think my ideal option would've been a non chain outfit fitting an OEM screen but that wouldn't have been any quicker Fortunately it only has auto wipers and high beam assist so hopefully a lower chance of being stuffed up. I'm realistic that it might need another screen (the 'buy cheap, buy twice' principle at work)

Ooh that’s a bit of me @Neil McCauley - well remember a 1.5 hr Auckland - Whangārei jaunt as a passenger in a cosworth version (and that was when the motorway ended at Albany!)

Quote for new screen + installation ex-CC BMW WLG = $3100! 😱

Longish wait for an oem screen so I’ll see what kind of job s+s do and dig my heels in if not up to scratch
-
@Weynay thanks! Yes as far as I know the UK was the only RHD market to get the f3x generation 335d. NZ got the 330d xdrive single turbo version. Japan only got 4cyl diesels. Not sure if Singapore / Malaysia ever got them. The cluster had the gauge faces swapped but the cruise control still displays in mph - I have a native kph one to swap in but need to find someone who can code it

Wairarapa SH2 roadworks claimed my windscreen this morning. Not excited about the replacement process, especially at this time of year. Given the terrible reviews of S+S Glass (who are preferred repairer) wondering if I should call Continental Cars and see what they'd charge. Screen has rain sensor and high beam assist camera so hopefully I should get an OEM screen rather than some janky chinese crap

It’s got wof and rego according to carjam. Looks like their other listings are mostly imports that can’t be complied and they’ve cut and pasted the blurb on the ad.

FCP / Spareto must love you! I don’t even know if Sreten from M539 has managed to hit that number (maybe on the alpina b7 with 3 engines!)
-
Sounds like it needs a new FRM, codes read and some cosmetic love. Rare enough to justify saving though… https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/335d/listing/4471179797

@gjm surely buy it back for your new commute??

330D... (expanded - needing a car for longish commute)

@gjm have you ruled out that 325d in Auckland? That is the best engine option imo -
X5: 30d vs 35d what's the difference?
balancerider replied to sobanoodle's topic in General Discussion
@FRT that power sounds right for an early sd / 35d (i.e. M57 twin turbo) E70. The LCI version got the twin-turbo N57 with 225kw. The Japanese 35d are all the euro-spec 30d (so 180kw, single turbo) as far as I know, some of them have 'BlueEfficiency' urea injection which are probably best avoided. bimmer.work seems to be the best of the VIN decoders -
One of these in Paraparaumu 🚨

@aja540i had what could best be described as 'not trouble free' time with that one -
Luxury line + 35d xdrive is definitely a weird combo…not available in the f30/f31 in the uk. Not even mentioning the obvious no-no of a diesel convertible, so you can revel in the sound of dagdag

Makes for cheap 2-3 year leases then BMW can sell you a new one when something goes bang -
330D... (expanded - needing a car for longish commute)
balancerider replied to gjm's topic in General Discussion
Nah. Way more prevalent on the n47 and even then not that common. probably wouldn’t go for the recommended 30k km / 2 year oil change intervals though. This engine is in virtually every diesel x5 -

I see there’s an E90 325d that will have the better N57 3L diesel and M sport kit for 7.5k @gjm…probably worth a look, possibly some slightly dodgy history with change of plate but would be buying on condition at this end of the market https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/325d/listing/4315961185?bof=wDULWD9h -

If you’re planning to drive at night then I’d take the 330d with xenons, halogens on the e46 are dreadful. 204 vs 231 bhp as well. The e46 does have sport seats though and the e9x stock seats aren’t exactly supportive. -

Same M57 engine. 6 speed zf auto in the e90 will be more economical than the 5 speed in the e46. If the e46 is a msport and the e90 isn’t that might sway it for me. E46’s may be starting to rust -
The ‘crystal knob’ may even be sitting in the drivers seat 🧐

Spotted this today (Alpina D3 Biturbo Touring)...wonder if it ever sold (was up for $120k)
