No pics but the tanzanite blue M3 Touring at Continental BMW looks lovely. Also spotted a German plated estate on SH2 in full prototype camo - first two letters of plate were HN so speculating it might be the new Audi A4 B10 Avant

Living with sensible(?) vehicles - E53 V8 and E60 M5...

No one said running BMW's is cheap @TermiPeteNZ but looks like you're onto replacing things you've already replaced on the X5?? Time to cut losses? -
The e87’s have xenons and parking sensors at least @Driftit…feels like a steering wheel was an option on the early nz new e9x’s!
-
@leonf - there was a low km one here owned by @NZ_InFerno ex-Singapore but I think it had quite a lot of issues. I'd say <10 total in NZ. Any others are probably ex-UK though

Interesting that both the Chch and Hamilton dealer demo G81’s were on trade me <24h before being taken down (both at rrp) so clearly the demand is there. I love the idea of an M touring but think I’d take an Alpina B3 instead

Any recommendations for wheel refurbishment in Wellington? I have diamond cut finish (Style 442) wheels and want to get them done in the factory single colour below. Presumably powder coated?
-
Plenty of cyclists - myself included. This was near Lake Maggiore, largely narrow windy roads here but probably some better driving options further west on the France- Italy border. I see there were only about 5000 made and all LHD so guessing very few or none in NZ

Car is on Swiss plates, spotted at top of a mountain in Italy

This sounded good with the S62 - don’t think I’ve seen another

They’re probably the right ones. The f3x x-drives run non m sport shocks as the centre diff needs more ground clearance so it doesn’t get smashed on bumps, they sit about 30mm higher than the rwd version

Closes tonight…$2800 currently

@treone ?

You'll need at least 18's if running the M-sport blue brakes, F3x looks bad on 17's anyway though.

N46 car wont start just crank after 2 days replacing the VVT motor.
balancerider replied to Toksis's topic in Maintenance
@Toksis suggest you put yourself out of your misery and pay someone to fix it instead of firing the parts cannon. Then sell it -
If anyone is in the market for a high k's diesel wagon (not quite as high as @gjm's old one) https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/320d/listing/4272832377

Should be in a little clip above the battery compartment (underneath the boot panelling) if it's like the rest of the E8x/E9x models. BMW dealer will be able to sell you the locking nut but maybe better to bin them off.

mine (full disclosure - it's a 3L so slower warmup) takes ~15mins on the motorway for temp to get to centre of gauge. slightly faster in summer. I would be unhappy doing less than 40k round trip in mine

@euroriffic the V can in the cup holder doesn’t bode well for scheduled maintenance

Pitfalls of F10/F30 series 3's and 5's.
balancerider replied to LemonHunter's topic in General Discussion
You’ll be looking at F series cars with that age requirement. F10 5er has lots of expensive electronics which may be getting to end of life, F30 3er a bit less luxurious / spacious but maybe fewer things to break - engine choices at your price point are N47 2L diesel (generally sound, needs oil changes more often than the bmw recommended 30k/2yrs and timing chains are a bit of a weak point) N20 2L turbo petrol in 135kw or 180kw variants, which I think are probably the best 4cyl petrol bmw have made (low bar i know!) or N53 NA 6cyl which sounds nice but not that powerful or reliable (I think injectors are $500 each and currently out of stock). Of those options I’d take the diesel I think, esp if doing lots of k’s -
The F32/F33 were better specced as standard than the F30/31, doesn’t look too povvo (it’s got Xenon’s at least and the blue calipers on the front aren’t any different from the stock ones). It’s certainly a great engine / drivetrain combo although the diff hangs down a long way so not an ideal ski car even with the raised suspension the Xdrive variant has. Would want gearbox and diff/transfer case servicing at this kinda mileage though
-
@bimmerguy that may be the least painful option in the long term. or alternatively keep filling it with oil and drive it til it dies
-
Agree with @Jacko - if you want to keep the car long term I'd DIY it. A 4-cyl petrol 1 series is never going to be worth much. The N43/N46 engines are well known for leaking / stretching timing chains / blowing valve stem seals so that's likely to be the thing that kills the car.
