Who "supervises" their car when its being worked on?
Michael. replied to shaneg's topic in General Discussion
Yeah I hate leaving certain people to do the work on my cars. I guess thats why it pays to know the right people you can trust and not go to any old place. -
I think it's a bit too low now. First pictures looked good though.

It's a shame the motors don't look that impressive when they get all that turbo stuff thrown on them, especially with this quirky new reverse head design. Ok yes they perform nicely, but I like a motor to look decent without big lazy covers all over them. Gone are the days of intake runners being a classic feature of the engine layout I think (like I6 M3s etc..)
-
Needs that facelift front in good condition then it would be quite nice.

Looks like a nice stock coupe you found there. Although depending on what your goal for it is, you're probably better to spend all that modification money on replacing the worn bush mounts, links and ball joints first... 22 years and 202 clicks on the clock would have taken its toll!
-
Great project! Looking forward to some good results!!
-
Seems like a lot of work to go through for little gain. Depends what your goals are with the car I suppose.... I just think the M50s and M52s are just too small for 1.5 tonne+ cars like E34s. Never the less, good luck with your plans!

The proportions are very ugly to be honest.
-
^ Yeah, just stick a 1JZ VVTi in.
-
WORD. But yes, good luck with sale!

Finally a new BMW that kinda works. I've hated nearly everything in the last 10 years.
-
I think my axles will be ok for the meantime, I'm only putting out half the power and approx half the torque ahah!
-
Love that!! Of course I am bias for Toyota powered BMWs Also 413rhpw on a medium case diff... that's good to read!

Gahh, I've been tempted to check it out, but I know I'l fall into that compulsive buying mode like I did with my last 540i if I have a look! I keep reminding myself one project car is enough at the moment!! \ Maybe your 540i is just worth hanging onto for a bit longer, I'd imagine it will easily sell but in saying that, theres a decent 1995 540i with around 100ks for 9k or so, yet that hasn't sold, a bit high i guess, but your indicated price of 7k is quite competitive especially to all those tired 250k kms+ examples that hover around the 4-6k mark I have actually noticed a lot of E34's tend not to sell quickly as most 540i buyers end up going for the newer E39 versions, I mean after all they have gotten very cheap now, well into the 6-10k bracket (for an average one!) However the E34 still wins styling wise for me, I could never buy a 540i E39 over an E34 for that reason. Anyway, back to your E30 cab topic, it might be more interesting if you post a series of updates rather than write ups.

Very nice project. I gather this is what the 540i is making way for?
-
That is the most perfect example I've seen. Nothing could make that car any better!

Thats an impressive parts and upgrade list there. Well worth it, but most people look past that and would rather go for a lesser M3 for less money which is a shame as this looks and sounds to be a great buy! One you could buy and drive and not have to worry about replacing things like diff mounts etc Although when you start putting bucket loads of cash into older cars such as these, the resale is just not there in a dollar for dollar regard - hence why I NEVER plan to sell my E36 V8! Never the less, good luck with the sale! .

All he is getting at is there are better motors to use if you're going to the hassle of doing an engine conversion. It's not like the 3.8 GM V6 are anything special. Just a typical inefficient boat anchor of the time. After having the experience of putting a Lexus V8 in my car all by myself, I wouldn't dream of going through that hassle for the sake of a GM 3.8 V6, I'd rather shoot myself in the foot!
-
Thats just a collection of random parts on an old E21. Nothing special. Well not with those silly speaker covers. :S
-
It actually looked lower driving along than it does in the TM pics.
-
The cooling system sounds very unique. Id love to see that up close!
-
Yeah exactly. I've used some of that liquid gel, few drops here and there around the frame work plus a couple of traps. They seem to be going for it already.
-
Yeah I just set a series of bait traps around the car. Should sort them I think. Initially I didn't care too much, but I'm getting quite fond of this E34 so want to start looking after it more than I planned, getting rid of the ants will be a worthy start. Might look at getting some parts of it repainted and the interior leather re-dyed soon. ($$$ )

A white E30 320i in the Royal Oak car park this afternoon... complete with 'bimmersport.co.nz' rear window decal Pretty sweet!

Haha! God, such a different time we live in compare to BMWs of that era. An excessivley engineered engine like that just laughs in the face of all this eco-minded auto mentality we have been subjected to lately. I wonder how many CO2 this V16 puts out!
