  1. Yeah ive always loved them as they got that 80's german muscle car look, one of few mercs id ever buy and i nearly did. Ive always liked the R129 as well - big vert with hard and soft tops, V8 and V12 power plants and true quality cars for coin compared to every other vert, nearly bought one of those too..
  2. Hahaha what we do without you. Better rear suspension design and probably a stiffer chassis helps but come track day a good driver in the E34 could make up the difference. Ive been faster around a track in my 535is than cars that should of destroyed me.
  3. IMO E34 or E36 needed suspension etc refreshed at this point doesnt really matter as they are both old cars, its really down to who cared for it. You can get cars in good condition, tidy, look good etc but they are rolling on shitty tyres and cheap shocks, vise versa. Having sport suspension optioned doesn't mean much as its quite likely been replaced with something inferior or maybe better if you lucky. You can track E34 like any car. E34 suspension isn't as complex as E36 so less to replace\fix
  4. I think it depends on what you are used to and what you have driven. I generally dislike cars that are lacking in low down torque having owned only 6 cyl BMW's and above Id never get anything below a 325i if it was going to be my fun\track car etc as you will end up wanting to go faster once you start tracking it. Once you experience more power its hard to go back to slower cars.
  5. 6.5s for an E34 540i is probably more realistic but diff ratio and driver influence it. Best ive seen quoted for an E39 540i is 5.6s which was from a manual motorsport with M62B44 engine. End of the day i don't think most people would care too much about 0-100 times.
  6. E34 540i is under rated power wise and does a low 6 second 0-100 too. I agree they are basically the same until you start reaching high speeds where the 540i would start to pull away from 328i. If you want a affordable robust E34 you can take to track etc the 535is is the go. 540i is a good daily driver and cruiser I'll be putting my E34 540i on the market shortly for cheap
  7. They around $80-90 new on ebay and im happy to give a fellow E34 owner a good deal.
  8. I have obtained an extra copy so this one is unneeded. Best manual around and it covers all E34's $30
  9. Haha you probably right and honestly I would be more inclined to if i had the time, but fixing sh*t on multiple cars at once is a pita. Hopefully ill be left with just the 2 535is shortly so i can finally start on the black one after this finishing the grey one. Im sure i post something up at that point.
  10. Im beginning to think i maybe addicted to buying 5 series BMW's.
  11. Im surprised you'd even bother tbh but Ive got a small one that would be suitable(does upto 25nm iirc). PM me if you really want it.
  12. Something Japanese with a hair dryer on it is my guess. Most BMW's aren't very powerful but who buys them for the power anyway, I'll just jump on my bike when i want to boost off cars.
  13. Im running the same setup, they should be 17x8 and 17x9 and 20mm front, 26mm rear offset iirc
  14. Bit over priced that one. E34 540iA's are nice if you don't mind auto and want better power and fuel economy but id still take a 535is over one for everything else.
  15. To me iS\motorsport are the same thing. While im not expert on E36's im not even sure there was specific set of options to specify what exactly is a true E36 motorsport\iS or not. I think the problem i think with E36's is they were built over a long period and heavily produced so many variations, BMW were moving to electronic traction systems instead of mechanical for non-M cars during 90's which doesn't help. Older BMW's i think were alot more consistent and clear cut.
  16. Had it for a couple of months. Bit of an impulse buy really as i wanted to see what it was like. While i still prefer my E34's this E39 definitely has it advantages but i can justify 3x 5 series long term. Im in no rush to sell it though and the reserve is what i owes me. I dont think it will take too long for it find a good home with a someone who appreciates good power plant mated with a proper transmission
  17. Not very common and very tidy manual which is a whole different level of experience compared to the slushbox. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=686102023

    For real or not

^Yep 540i motorsport with bad badge placement and bad fitting muffler.

    For real or not

Whats the point of asking what is it while hiding the rego, could be anything.
  20. Eagle

    E38 750iL Cruiser

The lights all cleared during a short drive with the couple of bad sensors replaced on E39's
  21. Wouldn't be the first idiot to think their 7 series double glazed glass is bulletproof.
  22. I do like E28 and E39 but the E34 will always be perfect balance between old and new and the quality built 5 series to me.
  23. Having done it on my E30 id say its worth it only you gonna pull the subframe out to redo bushings etc, otherwise i wouldnt bother. Never bothered with a cert, highly doubt anyone would notice\care. Alot of factors in tyre wear but ive never had any problems with wear.
