What'd you do to your BMW today?

Here is the nice new (ish) unit installed

Wow what a difference.. I've been driving the car since I've owned it with the junk VANOS in it .. now it's a different machine! More torque and a much more responsive car overall .. from the info online about the materials used .. most VANOS units with any decent kms are not operating as they should. So best to get it checked out!

Also had 7 stripped rocker cover studs which are nice brand new now.

All in the life of a high kms engine!

^ circlip is there, somebody is holding it! Just the older style.

Engine looks clean.

Aha good to know. That's what the team said .. they had never done this on a S50B32 so probably got it a bit confused.

They were a good bunch though! And the results are great.

Changed the engine oil and filter.

Again.

Yet again.

I now know how to reset the service indicator without even thinking about it.

Oil/Filter change. Snapped sump bolt. Took so much force to get out it looks like it fractured, when I went to put it back in it barely got tight against the sump and the head snapped clean off. Luckily was doing said change at another forum member's house who had the right drill piece to pull it out.

Emergency trip to scarles for a temporary alloy bolt. Will replace with proper bolt next oil change.

Running much better now. :D

So I cheated and took the car in for work (the shame the shame) anyway new valve cover gasket, new Vanos line, Vanos rebuilt, PCV replaced, oil filter housing seals done, new expansion tank, new water pump, new oil level sensor and I had him install the poly FCAB bushes as it's just easier when on a hoist. When I pick it up tomorrow I will do the rear Ohlins and springs and then the Eibach sway bars. Roll on summer for some weekend cruises over to the Wairarapa. :D

Spent the day reading up on BMW coding and setting up the software.

After several hours of frustration I have figured out basic coding, and have enabled the daytime running lights on my E92 so they can be toggled in iDrive :)

For some reason they were coded out from factory, a Japan thing?

Gave the 320d a rest today. It deserves it.

Pulled the wings off one of the 318i coupes, removed the wiper motor and mech. That project is going a lot deeper than I'd planned. Oh well... Soon be summer so hopefully we'll have some good weather so I can it outside.

Narrowly avoided buying a 525iX touring. This buying cars thing is getting out of hand!

Bought a shitty old e34 and drove it 800km. Didn't break down. Success.

Definitely stopped being a work of art when you started drawing pictures in the paint on the bonnet with your car key. :P

Removed the rear subframe from the e34. It was quite an interesting exercise...

The irony is unlike some BMWs that claim to be the 'ultimate driving machine' my active suspension Soarer actually lives up to that. ;)
