eliongater 718 Report post Posted May 8, 2015 Sorry if this is the wrong topic. What can people tell me about e30 b pillar rust? I'm looking at buying an e30 and it failed a WOF because of this rust. Any ideas if it would be fixable or terminal? Thanks
gjm 3258 Report post Posted May 15, 2015 E30 PFL vs FL front lip What's the difference? Given they are specifically referred to, I guess either there is no interchangeability, or perhaps one model didn't have a front lip at all?

VADER 3 Report post Posted May 19, 2015 Fasteners & whatnot, i.e. inner guards etc, where's the best place to go for stuff like this please team (E60 5 Series)? I had a look at Repco, RAJ but it seemed a specialist place/eBay/overseas is a good option. TIA

zero 1162 Report post Posted May 23, 2015 Where is the engine code on the n42 engines? I have found a whole heap of numbers cast onto the block, but none appear to be the engine code? I've been on google for the last hour but no joy so far.......

B.M.W Ltd 950 Report post Posted May 23, 2015 N42 is the engine code. You only need the last seven digits of the VIN number to order the correct parts for that engine in your car. You don't need the engine serial number.

zero 1162 Report post Posted May 24, 2015 What other info or warranties did you get with this engine ? I hope it's done less than 30k Its done 155kms, but I'm going to rebuild it anyway so I'm not overly worried about mileage. Plus, it was only $150. Then I will swap it over with the n46 motor in my car, and rebuild that engine and sell to recoup costs. Or, I might just swap the heads over after I have reconditioned the one I've bought. I'm trying to fix my valve stem seal problem in the most economic way possible (without cutting corners of course).

huff3r 347 Report post Posted May 27, 2015 Do adjustable rear camber arms (non-oem) to suit a E36 require a cert? As far as I can see from here http://www.lvvta.org.nz/documents/suplementary_information/LVVTA_LVV_Cert_Threshold.pdf They would require a cert. if it's not specifically allowed by the above publication then it automatically requires a cert. A rule of thumb seems to be that if you replace something non-adjustable with something adjustable, then you need a cert.
huff3r 347 Report post Posted May 27, 2015 It's an interesting list... apparently my (airbag) steering wheel swap requires a cert but I can install motorcycle handlebars from a "reputable brand" without a cert as long as it doesn't interfere with my (illegal) airbag. Also - general question, since the WOF guys never lift my bonnet how could they tell if I have adjustable camber plates? They should be lifting your bonnet, to check the firewall for rust, and to check the integrity of the suspension mounts. So a proper wof would spot them, someone cutting corners most likely wouldn't. Allanw 1071 Report post Posted May 27, 2015 Interesting, my last WoF was sound but the one before that was with AA and I'm convinced they didn't lift the 'hood'. Maybe my recollection is poor. Sounds like the AA - know about as much about cars as my Mum.

zero 1162 Report post Posted June 3, 2015 (edited) How do I disassemble the hydraulic lifters on the n42/n46 engine? I'm rebuilding them as part of my engine build, but cant figure out how to open them. I've seen diy's for the lifters in the 6 cylinder motors but not for mine. Edited to add; should I keep the lifters in order for when they are reinstalled? I have kept them in order anyway, but wondered if this is necessary?
