3 pointsI don't get out much. So when I do its just more apparent how much we suck as drivers, even more so at the moment as I have been oversea's for three weeks ridding on two wheels in south east asia and ironically the tourists in my group were the worst drivers, I only fell off once! When it comes to f**kwits jamming on brakes, nothing makes them do it like a cop car with its lights on for no apparent reason parked on the side of the road. I just about swerved into the cop on the weekend coming over the hill by the Manurewa on-ramp, I literally swerved three lanes at 100kph to avoid the impending crawl. The cops have us so scared that we all just jam on our brakes even when we are not speeding. I am also wondering why so many other motorists are offering me hand jobs all the time, they literally wind down the window and start gesturing a hand job... some even offer to slip me a digit. I don't mind these type of drivers, they seem nice, most like to slow down in front of me as so I can be sure to see what they are offering, some even follow me.

1 pointI've been offered a servotronic hydro box and control module from a 1993 850i cheaply and thinking of retrofitting into my 91 850i. The servo steering in my E39 540i was a massive improvement over stock so I'm quite keen to give it a try. The internets suggest that the wiring harness for the control module will already exist located on the left hand side of the left hand foot well in the cabin and the hydro box should be a straight swap. Anyone done this on an older car (E32, E34, E38, E39)? Any possible pitfalls (other than the possibility the wiring doesn't exist)?

1 pointHow much crude/petrochemicals are used to make 4l of synthetic oil?? If its 10 litres then the input cost has fallen by no more than $4 with oil having halved in value. Probably not worth passing on - in fact its impossible to do so if the company has hedged that exposure.
-
1 pointYeah far too gone by that stage sadly PlastiDip. They are black with a hint of copper (was playing around to try get a red tinge) Don't have any good full car shots - will get some though. It was going to be gunmetal but then ran out of time since we spent 3 hours mixing up some weird as colours so went black haha

1 pointFor such reasons I find it beneficial to run my used oil through coffee filter paper and reuse it for another 5,000kms.

1 pointI've driven a manual 330cd, and they go pretty dam good!....& still insanely cheap on fuel... if only NZ RUC's weren't so ridiculous! first thing you'd do is change that trim thou... that is a particularly bad wood colour..

1 pointCleaned the m3 and all the dust and grass inside it after attending the auto cross yesterday. Sad to say I was beaten by a e28 525e but was way more fun just being sideways consistently than trying to get a fast time! Still got 3rd in class tho!

1 pointOP YOU LIVE IN WELLINGTON>NO EL RECOMMENDAY but seriously if you have a nice UN-WINDY place to do it and can be bothered with all the fiddling. i did my window chrome today, am going to just buy a $50 matte grill off e-bay and save my life due to all the stress those caused me today lmao

1 pointAmazon are a very good company, they do everything right from the perspective of the customer. If only some locally based companies acted in this way! I read the recently released Jeff Bezon (Amazon founder) biography over the holiday break, can recommend it as a great read if you enjoy motivational/business non-fiction

1 pointM20's don't have knock sensors or any way to tell the engine is pinging or knocking and reduce ignition timing. So if you do run crappy fuel, it will ping/knock and the ECU will not know a thing about it.
-
1 pointYeah. I will be tinting windows and thinking of putting spacers in the wagon as well. Bought it 2 months ago so still few things to do, got the wheels and black grills straight away tho
-
1 pointEm yummy indeed. McLaren is a very special car. E61 is looking sharp as well, nice wheel combo, thought of tinting the windows? Didn't know the wagon could substitute for an X5 as well LOL

1 pointwhen a police car is on the motorway doing 95 no one has the balls to pass him....i go past with the cruise control set at 100 on the gps
-
1 pointYup, this. ANY type of van at the side of the road and people brake just-in-case it's a mobile speed camera, even if they are nowhere near the speed limit. Or they see a police car at the side of the road, in the distance, going the other way.. again brake even though nowhere near the speed limit. All down to poor information from the Police on "zero tolerance" and poor driving. Did lots of Kms up and down the motorway to HD over the week-end and noticed SOOOO many drivers that are just totally un-aware of anything that is not directly in front of their bonnet, utterly, utterly hopeless. Case in point, driver in right-hand lane (nothing for miles in left-hand) at 90km/h totally shocked and suprised when I went past on the left, and gave them a friendly wave after sitting behind them for over a km. As if to say 'where did you come from..', use the mirrors - they are not their just for doing your make-up love!

1 pointhi kyle - i was just providing personal experience. I painted mine, looked great. first time I hit the open road when i arrived at my destination the grills were all chipped up and looked gawd awful. bought a proper pair online for $100. never looked back. yes you can paint them, yes they will look fine. but you will need to repair whenever you get sprayed with gravel on NZ's open road. Which is often in my experience or is it just me? do I just follow cars too close??

1 pointPerfect height at the back, but just like me an extra inch than necessary at the front lol. The colour's not my thing, but then again I always go with out there colours so it's good to see someone else who isn't afraid haha, well done bro.

1 pointAnnoying that there's no details about what car it was in, what mods it's had and what year etc. the engine is.
-
1 pointHad it 4-5 years ... its had a new motor and gearbox in that time. While its at 200000ks its in very good condition for a 14year old car.

1 pointDropped m52 block off at engine shop to get a hone. Spent three days cleaning the sh*t off the m54 Pistons, dropped them off to get dipped and clearances checked. If all goes to plan should have it back in a week ready to assemble with new cams and all the grunty m5x gear I already have. I also drank a lot of beers.

1 pointi will always stick to 10,000km on an NA car and 5000km on a turbo car. Engine oil these days is subjected to some intense conditions and breaks down over time, its cheap insurance and means the engine will be cleaner and operate better for longer. Would be interesting to compare two engines, in the same conditions, the same ages but one run with long life intervals and the other on shorter intervals. Run them for 10 years and see what the insides are like. Its like a manufacturer (Audi?) is now looking to start bringing out cars with lifetime service intervals.... where the oil in the engine lasts as long as the expected lifespan of the car (which has not been specified, but i bet its short). Much like lifetime trans fluid in BMWs, we know how that works out.
