4 pointsGot my cluster back with all pixels working properly : MK4 Nav unit software updated to latest V32 version : The 16:9 widescreen monitor had an intermittent problem with buttons not working. Now sorted as of this morning. Pulled it apart and found the optical rotary encoder module was loose. Removed it, re-seated the contact plate and re-installed : Got a 2013 version map. Fully working GPS! Yay.

3 pointscheers fellas. Yes, its definitely getting close to that time where we will be seeing a near finished product. Still a few things left to do after paint, need to get my rear adjustable shocks sorted from Evan at speed factor, then get the car jacked up so we can do a complete clean up and re seal of the under body. Ray has some head lights that will be picked up this week, and then the massive decision on wheels <- this part will be a nightmare I think. Then its putting the interior back in and installing the push start system. So hoping to have this all completed within in the next 4 to 6 weeks.

2 pointsAwesome. Good score bro. My thoughts on your thoughts. IN the mean time enjoy driving it and finding its faults etc, strange noises. My thoughts are based on your very conservative budget. You need to triple that is my conservative view. I loved my M50b25, it's a great motor. So far plans for this General Maintenance (Engine & Transmission Oil and Service) -Fully agree! Cosmetic Repairs (Petrol flap, headlight glass) -Agree Volvo Lip and have the sides and lower bumper matching the bodies colour. -No, not for ages, if ever LSD (or might just weld it shut for 100% locking - Flame suit on) -You're joking right? A Ebay Euro Chip Tune -Absolutely freakin not Exhaust modifications -umm not worth it at all, maybe cheaply Some Suspension work, (for now I may just settle with some sports lowering springs) -Spend everything you got Perhaps some better Mags and Tires,(currently has 15" Style 5's) -later later, just have them balanced etc. Maybe followed by a Strut Bar and Custom Xbrace etc. later later later if ever

1 pointOne of them days when works over rated for customers so whipped up some stuff, Quad throttles for a M42 using GTIR Pulsar units ( going onto my daughters car ) and start of a Audi Grp B intake manifold for my turbo M42 E36.

1 pointI always had a strong feeling for the E34 which I tried hard to hide every time I saw them and wrote them off as whales, but deep down I always liked the old school headlights and aggressive yet civilized muscle look always intrigued me, the interior is far better than any 3 series I have been into, to me its a poor mans 2002. May was a horrible month for me, to top it off my 7 series was pretty much bodily destroyed by the deranged lunatic and I was getting bored of the 328i Project, and lurked around for something a bit bigger, with some more space and luxury as I would likely be moving up South for uni soon. I originally wanted a V8 540i and was willing to spend $3000 but it became hard to find one in good shape either, and in the end decided it to be more practical if I just kept my Supercharged 328i Project as the fast toy and simply replaced the 318i sedan, Then this came along, And for the price I just couldn't pass over this nice little 525i when I saw it. Lovely car, M50B25 Engine, done 200K, CALYPSOROT METALLIC (252), been told it was sound, looks well taken care of, leather interior in good shape, got a sunroof too! I got it off a tourist who was leaving the country in the last moment, What do you think its worth? I got it all for $500. Yep! likely around 1/4 the original asking price. So far plans for this General Maintenance (Engine & Transmission Oil and Service) Cosmetic Repairs (Petrol flap, headlight glass) Volvo Lip and have the sides and lower bumper matching the bodies colour. LSD (or might just weld it shut for 100% locking - Flame suit on) A Ebay Euro Chip Tune Exhaust modifications Some Suspension work, (for now I may just settle with some sports lowering springs) Perhaps some better Mags and Tires,(currently has 15" Style 5's) Maybe followed by a Strut Bar and Custom Xbrace etc. Probably with a budget or less than $1000, And when I sell it, I should get my investment back! I need it to be classy & reliable but still pondering if I should end up throwing one of my universal M50/M52 supercharger brackets (still under development will make the design available for BS members later this year) and blow it with an SC14! Car is in Christchurch with a friend, will be picking it up soon. To which, anybody got suggestions to bring it down to north island? (dont want to spend $700 having a car company transport it for me), If you know somebody or got any other budgeted ideas let me know. I was thinking to fly down there when I am called to be interviewed by uni and then drive it back but that could be a months wait.

1 pointHi guys/girls, Jono here, new to forums, taking my time to look through the topics (love jeffbebe's E31 who must live locally to me as I see it about all the time) and introduce my ride.... Brought this NZ new '91 E30 facelift 325i convertible manual done 165,000kms two years ago sight unseen from Rangiora ... Drove back to Auckland with the heater on full as temp gauge didn't work and some funky steering thanks to the tie rods being wound all the way in one direction (1 turn to lock left, 3 to lock right haha)... I'm pretty handy (and particular) so replaced ALL fluids, cambelt, waterpump, all water hoses, thermostat (old one was fine), temp gauge and adjusted valve clearances soon after getting back. Since then I've replaced the roof canvas and seals (last month, including stripping frame back to metal and repainting; b**** of a job getting the frame re-aligned after removing it) and various bits of trim and assorted suspension bushings... it's a labour of love, still plenty of things I'd like to do... PS: Always on the look out for the removable hard top on the slim chance anyone has one they want to sell...

1 pointFunnily enough the e39 m5 wasn't fitted with brake duct cooling from factory (may be different for the U.S. cars with different rotors). You can retrofit the 540i MSport air ducts and wheel well liners (or cut the holes yourself). There's more information on M5Board. I've never really felt the need to install them as I don't track the car and it leads a pretty easy life. In saying this, the brakes are probably its weakest point and I have overheated the front disks during some spirited driving...
-
1 pointHow are the brakes on the E39 M5? I have read mixed reviews on their effectiveness when the car is being tracked? I am looking at buying one and plan on driving it around Europe with a week at the Nurburgring and want to know if it will handle the jandel. I have seen something called the "cooling" mod mentioned, curious to hear if anyone had done this. I am trying to figure if its worth fitting an aftermarket "big brake kit" or simply fitting new OEM disks, some better pads and fluid... I am relatively easy on brakes in my driving, i.e., I am not a driver who brakes late and hard, more smooth and fast. Appreciate an feedback as I am trying to construct a plan of attack and would like to have a list ready for when I am in England, as in where to shop etc. Seeing the car will be imported to NZ for me to keep, I don't mind spending money in the right places. And from what I have seen its often necessary to replace these parts to get compliance anyway. Also plan of fitting KW Suspension as well. Will follow with more E39 related questions in time.

1 pointWatch out for rust around the jacking points on uk examples. Evolve automotive have a lot of experience with the e39 m5. They're in Luton, Bedfordshire.

1 pointShh! I suspect it could be as simple as marginally low fluid - that would give the two codes you're getting. Take it back, say you've been getting this issue since they changed the fluid, and ask them to check/top up. There are other possible causes, but that's the one which is most easily checked.
-
1 pointYeah that's just the thing. It drives great. No shifting problems. The only thing is sometimes it makes a odd noise when putting in park. I'd be more concerned if it was giving some indications. I actually like driving it. (Just quietly)
-
1 pointGood luck. This one is awesome IMHO. Colour combo is lush... http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-881510405.htm

1 pointCompressed springs are useless from what I have experienced. Problem with them is that that the engineering company can never guaranty how much the car will lower and they do not increase the spring rate so you will often end up with a car that is too low and too soft. So it essentially f**ks the car... unless you want a low car to impress teenage boys, then they are perfect. In my experience I would actually prefer cut springs if was going the cheap hory mod route, at least that often results in a stiffer spring rate. Personally I would not bother even lowering a car unless I was prepared / could afford to do it properly.. i.e. H&R/Eibach and Bilstienlargers

1 pointExtremely happy with the fitment of the wheels - as soon as I took my first drive there was an immediate improvement of the old runflats. Both front and rear now sit flush with the body and give the car that subtly aggressive look I was after. Great to meet a few more guys yesterday and now look forward to taking advantage of the engine potential! Quick pic from parking up for lunch on Sunday - can't help but turn around every time I walk away from the car!

1 pointYea Im running a Alpine CDE-140E in my e30 atm, its not stock but it does what I need and looks clean, plus I like that its Alpine as the original head units are alpine, so seems fitting..

1 pointHaha mike, I kind of knew I would be getting this today but wasnt 100% until i saw it and drove it. The chat did help confirm my initial thoughts. I still quite like the E36 looks wise and its just a great cheap runabout car with plenty of hands on work that can be done. Looking forward to it. I will still keep my eyes open for a nice E46 330ci but thats another story

1 pointI would have thought around 13-16k for a Japanese import. Market was flooded with them for quite a while. Bloody buy right cars spamming the market.

1 pointAn LSD... drive it before making judgment... an auto 525i will be lucky to get one wheel going in the ice. If its NZ new it probably has an LSD anyway. Happy to be corrected.

1 pointHeh good work. I've replaced nearly 250 capacitors in my soarer last month. They are the cause of most electrical issues!
