One of the first cars I customised was a 59 Morris Minor van. My father and I spent hundreds of hours restoring the body and upgrading the suspension to Vauxhall disks and independant jag rear. Then a 3lt V6 and 5 speed gearbox went in. Custom paint and interior. Loved that car. Similar thing happened and I had a fire in the engine bay which totaled the car. Undaunted(well maybe a bit) I wanted to save my beloved van but it was cost prohibitive. To cut a long story short I took a second job and saved and scrimped on everything for a year so I could afford to bring my van back. This is what your friend should be doing. Not relying on the goodwill of others to fund his repairs. Yeah, I feel for his loss but if he works for it himself he'll appreciate it more in the long run.

Good luck, alternatively get married, get a mortgage or two if your in Auckland, fill in a few years and then tell me your dream is still alive

Am I the only one that thinks this listing seems a bit suspect? Surely if you're trying to flog a car for 60 grand you'd at least take a couple photos to show its condition?!

At least give some photos of the burnt remains, assuming there's actually a car behind this story. Your mate isn't gonna get sympathy here. Should've had insurance, sh*t happens

I thought these online donations were more for people with out of the ordinary problems, like health complications beyond their control & couldn't afford the costs associated. I'm sure everyone would love a donation towards their car projects. I know I would.

If his price was closer to 2.5-3k it might be worth buying and fixing. Sports aren't that common in NZ and I believe that only the euro spec cars came in a short sport. The Americans never got these. All their sports are long wheel base il's.(I think) I'll have to look that one up tonight. Working the night shift is good for something at least. Watching tv and reading about bimmers online... Nice color and the wood package is rare too. Shame about his exorbitant price.

So what? I know of people with cars worth a lot more than 100k and they don't even own a cell phone.

Used as a wedding car. Those pics look like they were taken in the 70's. Spent a 100k on it but cant afford a digital camera. ????

I did an entirely DIY EGR delete on Saturday. Had too... The metal pipe connecting the EGR cooler to the EGR valve sheared off behind the flange at the cooler end. <sigh> Still, something I'd planned to do for a while. This just 'persuaded' me to do it now.

Dead right. Looks like it'd be a good source of parts to tart up another car, but that'd be it for me. Still want those wheels for wife's car though!!

Have free transport from Auckland to Wellington next weekend, so need to bite the bullet and buy a gearbox (because they mainly seem to be up there) ASAP. Also going to take the e34 for a wof soon (that it will fail) and see exactly what it needs, I'm thinking it's going to be a lot. So what are some nice bits I can take of an e34? I know that some suspension parts will work, the LSD should work (might require putting into an e28 case), might grab the clutch (or not, it's very bitey) and also the mtech 1 steering wheel, except I might need the column for that as I believe mine is coarse splined. I also got the stereo working in the e28 by connecting the factory fader back up. And I attempted to give it a cut and polish.

could easily spend $4k at each WOF, thats why they are $4k now.

You've got the wrong number on your car, it should be 666

Bahahaha! On my Suzuki Cappuccino, the VIN plate had been pop riveted through the firewall, into the washer tank... but you could SEE it was there... retards! Still, at least now you can wash all the crap out from behind the liners

Time for a thread close, the owner has obviously done their homework and is happy with his purchase as a result. Start a project thread if you're keen to show and track the progress of change.
