2 pointsOver the last week, I've made descent way on the tailgate section, getting all the wiring and structure pieces cut up and welded. Welds aren't the best as the metal on that side of the chassis is rather thin. Pin holes will be filled with deck liner and the end bits will be sealed with heavy duty weather resistant silicone. Hinge needs to be aligned slightly, but opens and closes pretty well.

2 pointsHere's a look at my cars to date (since 2006): BMW 118i - My first new car. She was fun but troublesome. Spent as much time at the dealer as in my garage. Fiat Palio - Just a runabout car in my family. Was the go to when ever one of our cars were was in for repairs or maintenance. Jaguar S-Type - My first love. I wanted one of these for the longest time. She was written off when I guy t-boned me. Nisan Almera - Another one of our runabouts. Passat 3.2 - Pretty awesome car. Reliable but thirsty. Mercedes E320 - Awesome car. Reliable, fuel efficient and fun...if a bit old school. BMW 540i - Bought her, fixed her up a bit, sold her for a profit. BNW 645ci - Great drive and my first foray into retrofits and coding. Traded her in when the seal between the roof and windshield frame started leaking. Mercedes CLS550 - Pretty awesome car. Plenty of power and comfort. Sold her after one of the Airmatic struts failed (and cost me $4000 to replace) Jeep GC CRD Overland - Reliable, fun, frugal. Loved this car. Only sold her because I was made a killer offer. VW Touareg - Boy, what a money pit this one turned out to be. Eventually drove her to one of those cash for cars yards and got rid of her. BMW 740i - She was wonderful. The N62 had mild valve stem issues, but regular oil maintenance kept it in check. Did plenty of mods and retrofits on her. VW CC 3.6 - My first car in NZ. Japanese import. Ran strong. Traded in on a new Tiguan. VW Tiguan - Only my second ever new car. No issues whatsoever. Plenty of tech and toys, but ultimately boring. Traded in on the the 6-er BMW 650i - My new daily...

1 pointSome mad fecker "Rich" has pinched a dash 8 Q400 (large turboprop). Not confirmed, but sounds like F15s have shot it down... Many reports of the sonic booms of them chasing it down. https://heavy-com.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/heavy.com/news/2018/08/seatac-plane-stolen-hijacked-grounded-seattle/amp/?usqp=mq331AQCCAE%3D&_js_v=0.1#referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com&_tf=From %1%24s&share=https%3A%2F%2Fheavy.com%2Fnews%2F2018%2F08%2Fseatac-plane-stolen-hijacked-grounded-seattle%2F

1 pointHigh kz , purchased 2weeks ago now, been garaged and well maintained over her years, paint amazing, all electrics work, impressive under foot. Just hoping the trans fluid/filter change i do soon will adhere the issues i have currently . Have done enough read up to know were to start and what to eliminate. I Respect this car alot for the luxury which is still epic for back then. Alot of car and coolness for $1100 ???

1 pointi know of course more power, but the sound of the NA.. man miss my 130i.. my M135i doesnt compare for pure engine/exhaust sound to be honest..

1 pointWhen the trans is that far gone (especially a clutch type) changing the oil is often worse for it because you lose all the friction lining material in the oil which is most likely the only thing helping it now. Very common on 4HP22 to have clutch and convertor lock up issues, as well as valving issues from neglect. Second hand boxes are a gamble but less of a gamble than a cheap rebuild If it has a trans cooler, replace it with the box Control arm bushes are super common on 32/34s. Pitman arms etc wear too

1 pointHello Everyone, We are working on a All Steel Based Manifold for the M5X & S5x Motors in the coming months, available later this year, The plenum / air collector part however is now being redesigned to be a simple, shorter and tubular variation as its originally meant for the M122H and TVS Blower. it will be made available separate for public for a 1/2 - 1/4th the cost of whatever is available in the nz and international market. Any feedback is always welcome.

1 pointI thought they'd retrofitted an old school diesel, with a lumpy cam... Maybe even a 2 stroke detroit, with a loping cold idle Anyway, it's only an M5 - nothing a wheelbarrow full of $100 bills can't fix.
-
1 pointThey are a solid car and 290,000 is nothing for one of these, much more reliable than anything that came after. Fuel economy is their weak point but typically offset by low purchase price.
-
1 pointif you're going to do a fluid and filter change in the hope it fixes it (buy a Lotto ticket you might get lucky with one or t'other), assuming it's DEXIII fluid it runs BNT do 20l of Fuchs ATF at very reasonable prices.

1 point10 August 2018. 170,136km. Replaced rear window seals (upper, and lower). Some outstanding service from Novus at 138 Adelaide Road, Wellington. Big shout out to Reuben (member on here)! My second experience with Novus, and again, very positive. I decided to get someone else to do it, after my recent experiences with the windscreen in my e46... it was the right move. So here's what a typical aged seal looks like on an e60. they're a trim part; you don't need to remove the glass to change them out. A wrinkly old seal, yesterday PS: if you're ordering the seals, there's two pieces. bottom rail (which even has a velvet seal to the bottlid), and the top (which includes the sides). There's the version (for top and bottom, respectively) for double-glazed/armoured, and the 'normal' version.

1 pointHi all, new member here from North Shore, Auckland. Recently acquired a 1999 2.8 Z3 and am sorting out a few cosmetic issues and getting to know the quirks of these cars. I’m wanting to keep it all original. Will post some questions I have elsewhere.

1 pointEnded up buying this car, thanks for keeping it in good knick. I literally saw it on TradeMe that morning... Was originally looking at a C55 AMG/Audi S5 but glad to have got an E39 for less coin and with a service history, I had originally written off buying an E39 as they were too old. Planning to keep it for a couple of years and maintain it to the same standard. Open to trading the BBS wheels for a set of standard E39 wheels (preferrably M5/M par style) if anyone is interested. Also MrDevine, do you know how to get the leather piece out holding the headunit in? Might have to drop part of the dash but can't see anywhere obvious where it was mounted.
-
1 pointYeah i suppose it comes down to how long they actually last for. I guess if your not racking up the k's they may be ok. All my E39 daily control arms are Meyle (done 50,000 now) but many Lemforder items like the rear ball joints, Integral links etc are around the same price so saw no reason not to choose them in that situation

1 pointIs it true you own, or have owned, one set of every style BMW wheel ever manufactured?
