I kind of, not really, answered my own question. So thought I'd post back here. I don't have sales data, but I do have data of E46 M3's currently registered (as at Sept 2018). So it won't give me actual sales numbers as it doesn't account for vehicles taken off the road, exported, etc. But I thought it was still interesting to see how many E46 M3's are around and what they are. Note that I believe that the attached includes CSL's as well, as NZTA don't appear to separate them out separately. Still interested to see actual sales numbers for NZ, but suspect that the below is about as close as I'll get. The raw dataset is available here : https://www.nzta.govt.nz/resources/new-zealand-motor-vehicle-register-statistics/new-zealand-vehicle-fleet-open-data-sets/ for anyone else who didn't know about it/is interested. good to catch up etc mate also, in regards to the people anti fenix above. interestingly one of them used to be an agent for them and at the time of selling it to me said there was nothing wrong with them. whats changed, a bad breakup with an employer perhaps ? anyways, the one in my coupe has seen heaps of abuse, 10 or 12 track days now, plus many drives locally to the pub or whatever, club days, hawkes bay and back taupo and back, every time at manfeild is driven up etc, and has never missed a beat, doesnt drop a single drop. so there you go.

So I took the car to my first track day ever on the weekend. We had an absolute blast down at the Taupo Bruce Mclaren Motorsport Park! The car performed exceptionally well considering it is 23 years old and has 278,000 km on it. We drove it down from Auckland, drove hard all day and drove back without a single issue. It would definitely perform better with some better pads, an LSD and if some of the rear bushings were replaced but all in all I'm very impressed. I also managed to get myself 2 Racetech seats to replace the Bride replicas which I had before. I highly recommend spending the extra money for a better seat. The shape is far better, it's more comfortable and most of all it doesn't twist and flex. Overall, not bad for a car that has cost only $8649.50 to date. See some of the photos below from the day:

Got some of that expanding Gorilla foam to fill the void between the top and bottom pieces of my new race car splitter - to give it extra strength and rigidity without adding too much weight. Well - F#$k me that stuff goes everywhere!! Over estimated how much I needed to put in by about 300% so nearly all of it came out when I squeezed the two halves together. Then proceeded to do some kind of old school comedy act of getting stuck to everything as I tried to tape the two halves together. I should have filmed it for YouTube to show how not to do it. But now it has cured and hardened off I am pleased with the end result. Still nice and light, and much much stiffer. Just got to work out where to put the slots (to allow for adjustment) and then I can put the CF wrap over the top to make it look like a bought one!!

Starting a sister thread for the windy city. I need 4 new tyres and an alignment for my '06 130i. The sizes from memory are 215/40-18 and 245/35-18. I want to ditch the run flats and switch to a regular tyre. Quotes so far from Tony's seem to be around $1,400 for Potenza s001. Does anyone know of any options of places where I might be able to come in under a grand? Thanks

Hiya, Just wondering if anyone has any info on BMW NZ sales of new E46 M3's by year. Not sure if the info is in the public domain (I haven't found any info in my search so far), but would be keen to know how many E46 M3's were sold new in NZ each year they were for sale here, etc. Cheers, Matt

There’s not an ounce of rust or any sign of it underneath so yes BMW did do that. Have a full ppi from them for any potential buyer. reduced to $44,000

I know of Phil O’Reilly’s famous Cirrus blue M635csi in Wellington. An almost complete restoration car, and possibly one of the finest examples in NZ. Is that the blue car you talk of? Delphin was a dark metallic grey. The Zinnober red example is an amazing example too. Full m tech body kit, with style 5 wheels. Black leather. One of the finest examples in NZ too... stunning car in that colour. There was a ex UK green one example too that lived in Wellington. Sold to a guy in Huntly, about 6 years ago. Now in Melbourne - where a dealer has been trying to offload it between $60-$100k for the last year. Hasn’t sold.

I'm surprised two posters have listed Hyper. I've always found them incredibly expensive.....

travel insurance?I haven't bought that since my first credit card

I use Tyre City just out of Newmarket. I don’t think they’re the cheapest but apparently they do a lot of overflow work for the various dealers (BMW, Mercedes etc) and I’ve always had good experiences with them.

There is a fine line between what people think their car is worth against what it will actually sell for.

Another update Team This was a couple of weekends work, Can almost see the finish line. So motor is now mounted, had a couple little hiccups as you do. Had to remove the gearbox to get the motor in, had a few rear axle bolts give us grief so smashed them off and had to be replaced. New belts put on and asc+t throttle plate removed, new sway bar stabilizer arms and rebuilt Diff from Kayne Barrie with 3.15 LSD So tried the factory 525i diff but was slightly too long, will need to get it shorten by 27mm. Left to do. Reattach the rest of the front end. Secure electric fan onto Radiator Sort wiring out, reverse lights, car to read in neutral and jump starter motor relay. Refit exhaust And thats about it. Can't wait!

I think that would affect top speed and fuel consumption more than handling
