$8-10k for an engine rebuild? $1500 to tidy up the interior? What condition is the gearbox in? Then you have a 400,000 km M3? Worth $15k? Plus hassle, so $2k?

Ive bought and sold a lot of cars, and not once used anything other than Tardme. I tried Facebook, but its marketplace is cancer and nothing but a waste of time. You might get some cars sold via word of mouth, or flicking it off to a dealer or turners, but everything else basically happens on TM. The exception is of course rare and uncommon cars, but M3s are cheaper and easier to get elsewhere than in NZ.

Plenty of s50b32 parts all on eBay UK. Perfectly good engines are being stripped down as they are worth more in parts than as a whole. S54 swap it I say
  4. 2 points
That's a tough one. Without the S50 it's worth similar value to me (a tight a$$) as say, a 328i or 325i roller - as essentially the engine sounds like junk. Rack and suspension work, meh, wouldn't expect to recover anything on those. Gearbox might be worth a grand? I'm sure the usual vendors could squeeze it for lots. I won't insult with my figure. ?

You'd be a fool not to sell on trademe. As much as I hate it, it IS the NZ market.

So, spill the beans, no need to keep it a secret since you've already let the cat half out of the bag...

Most overvalued ///M car of all time with a corny celebrity tie in IMO.

$45k for a time bomb? No thanks. Subframe needs proof of doing, VANOS and pump hub need proof of doing, SMG pump and accumulator seals need proof of doing and then it's a $35k car at best. All these people selling 'quick' BMW's seem to be dreaming, whether it's an E30 M3, E36 M3, E46 M3, CSL, Z3M etc, etc, they're crazy prices. How many are actually selling? E60 M5's are selling for less than 25k, that 1M will sell for less than 50k... more realistic.

Hi Guys, first post here. Been following the boards since i got the lovely Bimmer back in September. Loving the car but unfortunately over the last few days I've noticed the passenger side door not opening with the central locking. It opens with the key and by using the handle inside. From reading it looks like its the actuator. Any ideas where i can get a replacement from? Doesn't look like its a really difficult job so think i may save some pennies instead of taking it to get repaired. Thanks in advance Dom

Last 420g sold for 3k, just box. Whole rear assembly - 2.5k no worries Headers - 1k Vaders - 1k even if in poor condition Body - 3k just because it's an Evo chassis that I'm assuming isn't bent Engine - 2k Where are these evaluations coming from. 2 grand for a non crashed Evo?? You'd be hard pressed to buy a factory manual 330i with a blown engine for 3k let alone an Evo M3
  18. 1 point
I neither love nor hate. Just what it would be worth to me. I was quoted $3k to do a head gasket on a 328i, so given some sort of M based parts price hysteria, I would think more. And at that mileage, while it’s apart, you may as well do everything, rings, bearings, vanish, etc etc.
  19. 1 point
Not really the NZ market, it’s the NZ market for dreamers, tyre kickers and rivet counters. Not many serious buyers of those cars on TM, if any.

Nah its a "piece of urine mate"...well in a worshop that is?? Like around 4 hrs to remove brru. ...10-12 for the whole job ResTecp for doing it on the floor though??. Let me know if you need any tools man. Put some brackets to hold the rack up while you replacing the gasket Cable tie the stabiliser bar up before removing rack then remove it after before removing sump....you'll know. I put a thicker film of silicon on the metal and a lick on the rubber cos the surface area is so small. Also all that weight and inertia of the diff...not such a great design in my opinion to only be held by +-30 m6 bolts with no even dowel pins. I chuck some locktite on all subframe mounting bolts...just to help me sleep more peaceful at night Hope you have some slim az forearms to get that steering shaft in....you have to pull it down as it collapses upwards...and dont bolt it to the frame. ...push the shaft in first.. Uhh..what else...oh yea....cable tie the rear subframe covers backwards so its easier to remove and fit it...youll know. Schweet. ...oh yea..diff seals and orings too

Wut? You're saying I can have fast and reliable? ? Where? ?

What type of work that added up to ~20k?

The 1M and the 135i are totally different cars. If you were to say i can buy a 135i for 25k and spend 25k on it, its gonna be faster than a 1M, you sir are a total douche bag... There's more history in the 1M with all the suspension and body work. For those who are comparing the two cars has never driven a 1M and personally should not comment or compare the two...
  27. 1 point
Agree. 135i + 10k and you're already leaving the 1m behind. 1m is a great looking little car though.

The one on TradeMe was just a look-a-like, had the rear wing and the decals and that was it. Not a true “lightweight” version, which is why it never sold for the $35k asking price IIRC.
  29. 1 point
but its not basically the same car at all, thats the point lol
  30. 1 point
i like the 1M a lot, but it makes more financial sense to me to buy a manual 135i for 20k and have basically the same car.

I personally don't see the appeal of them. I understand they're ~250kW go carts but even then, I'd rather buy other appreciating BMW models with similar factory power figures for less money. Personally I'd rather a FL E46/92 M3.

To finish the interior off I finally got my new wheel from Renown in the USA. The 350mm Renown Monaco in genuine black leather with the subtle addition of red stitching to tie it all together. Super happy with the overall look of the interior now.

I know people disagree with me (they're just doing their job, they had the money to buy it, blah blah), but damn dealers are the scum of the earth. They're no better than your average tardme car flipper, buying, washing it, taking photos and selling for a large mark up like they earned it. Taking the opportunity to buy these cars away from legit passionate potential owners, and then pricing them out of the market, with their "superior buying power".
