Today I clay bar'd and applied chemical brothers 'jet seal' to the whole car, not sure how good this product is but I got it for the E39's headlights that i no longer have and it was pretty expensive so figured might as well use it. I feel like this is the cleanest this car will ever be so went and shot a few photos to document it.

I kept these aside "just in case" after fitting new wheels to my 130i, but after 18months, I am pretty confident of not going back. So instead of having them take up space its time to move them on. Very few aftermarket wheels for the E87 look better than these, and they'd make a great, yet relatively cheap upgrade for anyone on the factory 17" wheels. These are a staggered set, 18x7.5" ET49 Front, and 18x8" ET49 Rear. I believe these specs mean they are from a pre-LCI E87, but they will fit fine on either. They have Nexen tyres on them, still with heaps of tread. Some small marks and curbing on a few of them but overall in pretty good condition. Listing here before anywhere else, looking for $650 ONO. Located in Titirangi, Auckland. Pics below..

Ahh, my bad sorry folks, they were both staggered but the LCI rears are wider at 8.5J as opposed to 8J. http://www.bmwstylewheels.com/bmw/208 So these are pre-LCI. 🙃 Have edited my incorrect post above.

List of lackluster cars purchased by those wearing nostalgia goggles. They were good....because they were cheap. Excluding the Monaro. Not cheap or good imo. Poke poke

Boys and Girls, I present to you, the Datsun (that's Nissan for you young-uns) 240Z (HS30). Amazing styling, torquey low-tech unburstable L24 2.4 litre single-cam straight six with a couple of carbs (yeah before Fuel Injection was an everyday thing) producing 150hp, and in most cases a manual gearbox. Great looks, desirable, fun to drive with a short wheelbase and four wheel independent suspension, two doors. They hailed from the early 70's, and by the time the mid-late 80's arrived, you could find them in the classifieds (before we had the interweb) for about $5000-6000. An awful lot of car for the money. Everyone was busy living the dream - even after the '87 (stockmarket) crash, and those wanting a shark were buying JDM 280ZX off of dealer's yards for the standard $12,995 as they were 'better', and had 5 speed gearboxes. About 5 guys in the team I worked with back then had 280ZX's, one even had two! Never mind that they were self-lightening and set about disolving by about 1995. Back to the 240Z. Thirty years later there's only ONE 240Z on Trade Me. Dealer's price, $89,990. And it's a left-hooker! A $40-60k pristine M325i looks like pretty good value to me, I know which one I'd rather be driving (much as I love the 240Z and enjoyed driving them back in the day). https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/other/listing/2869915414 "I can't understand why 240Z's are so pricey. They used to be cheap". Same applies to Ford Escorts, Toyota AE86, Holden Monaro, XA/XB/XC Coupes, Toyota Celica, you name it. 80's Ladas are still cheap if you can find one 😊

It seems like you know most of the the faulty parts, get a bmw dealer quote on them would give you a worst case scenario. Personally unless the car was super cheap I would find another as you've got a couple of rabbit holes there, without getting into stuff like waterpump, coils and other maintenance bits that likely needs doing considering the current state of the car.

High likely you are going to have to throw at least a couple of grand at anything you buy if you want to have it mechanically close to new. Only real enthusiasts with money to burn that tend to do this, while typically holding onto them for a long period.

    Yeah mate, Ohlins adjustables.

Saw you this evening. Looks good.

    With Ohlins too? Stunner!

$12k for an E36 328i... I would want it to be mint and mechanically fully sorted - he didn't seem to even know if the cooling system had been sorted - not the best indication from a M52 / M54 owner.

@qube - interesting array of messages... Does the car actually have comfort access (cool if it does)? Does it have PDC? If it has PDC then that might the the "CA control unit" they're referring to... not sure. If it is then I suspect if you replace that (~$350 used) then the rest of the problems may magically disappear... the problem is you won't know until you try. https://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=754683 Very common problem. Because the errors you're getting are all electronic and cover an array of unrelated systems then my suspicion would be a single faulty module spazzing out the others.

Definitely get a pre purchase inspection. Can help you find some things that you can use as leverage to get a better price as well as identifying any major issues that would be deal breakers.

yeah I did see those, they look in good condition but I'm looking for some nice clean silver ones. No real rush as the current wheels and tyres will be good till the end of the year , thanks for keeping a look out.

A couple of snaps from Euro & Brit Classic Car Show this weekend. Was a cool day, definitely going back next year. The neighbouring Mercedes Club got sulky over us taking up too much room, made for some nostalgic rivalry. The 15" basketweaves are all refinished now too. I'm so stoked and can't wait to fit some tyres. Any recommendations from anyone on good 205/55r15? Seems to be an odd size with a limited amount of makes. Might go with Falken Ze914 as the reviews and price are pretty good. Also after some form of wheel sealer/wax make cleaning the cross weave design alot easier.

Yes correct, they don't mention it. They were having too many problems with the EGR valves faulting after the EGR cooler had been replaced so they directed all dealers to replace the complete EGR module.

Interesting, no mention of valve replacement on my recall invoice

You’d hope the e46 was an improvement on the previous generation. The e46 is considered by most the sweet spot of 3 series and they’re great value. That being said, driving both an e46 (330ci) and e30 (325i) back to back recently, the e30 is just👌... It probably is sentimental and I quite like that it’s not particularly fast by today’s standards however BMW and financial sense. Not sure those two things go together.
  24. 1 point
No they don't. BMW NZ directed all dealers to replace the complete EGR module which includes the EGR valve and cooler.
  25. 1 point
They only replace the cooler. Valve itself not involved with recall

I have never attempted to advertise, just clarify. If you think I’ve been vague, check out the info on our site, including our entire timeline on where and how Autoport was created. Several interesting points have been raised… Regarding pricing, more and more people find a fixed price model refreshing as they don’t like the haggle. They also like online as find car yards intimidating. Also, there are plenty of moving pieces apart from the price with buying and selling cars which usually affect the end price. Regarding ownership, it seems good business sense not to own the depreciating and costly inventory but have full rights through an agreement to sell it. And while on that, there are plenty of dealers in NZ who have cars sitting on their yards they don’t own – it’s the supplier that still owns the car until it’s sold and the supplier is often a Japanese company. Another thing I like about our model is that we aren’t motivated to sell cars based on margin or how long it’s been sitting on the yard (with turnover aims and cash flow implications of that). We are motivated to help clients find the best car they can, from a wide range, that fits their budget. Challenging the traditional model means we do things differently, but with the same end result and most people who contact us understand that. If they don’t like how we operate, there’s plenty of choice!

I’m correcting your comment that Autoport is just an “agent”, who takes no risk or responsibility and just runs a currency converter! We’re a full service RMVT offering cars online direct from the source. Also, no attempt to advertise here - just advise what is included as standard for Autoport, since that was in question. I’m sure you know the answers to your questions given your position, but happy to answer for the community. All those questions and more are answered on our site. We offer cars for sale from our network of authorised suppliers in Japan and the UK and we have companies setup in both those countries for quality control and admin efficiency. We have a physical office in Auckland for clients to visit and collect cars from - clients only deal with us. Cars are complied, serviced, registered, prepared and valeted by us. Being online means we can be mitigate any issues at the inception of any deal with several inspections prior to shipping. It also means we avoid depreciation and the cost of funding an inventory – both usually add to the cost for the customer. Clearly there’s no option to test drive, but that’s why there’s a robust process and a money back guarantee. While some see a test drive as important, some can’t be bothered and see it as a way for the salesperson to get some one-on-one time with the perspective customer to see what makes them tick and get closer to selling the car. We are challenging the traditional dealer model by being online. Clients pay no more than the agreed price at the inception of the deal, and secure the car with a 10% deposit. As for negotiation, Toyota and Honda stopped that years ago and from next year I hear that will be the case for Mercedes Benz. Do you know when it will be the case for BMW? And while our service isn’t for everyone, there seems to be a growing number who are quite interested. Hope that helps.

The rear is ok unless you are side on. Then the prolapse anus becomes apparent.
