Sub frame reassembled and ready to go back in, so tomorrow night will be; Re-fit handbrake cables, lift subframe into place, bolt up driveshaft, bolt up subframe, attach air springs, attach sway bar, attach exhaust, attach ride height sensors, attach brake calipers, put wheels on, put car on ramps and bounce it up and down, tighten suspension bolts, adjust handbrake, do a skid! Or it will be raining so I will watch some old project Binky on you tube.......

I think there is a limit to car security - you want to make it unappealing/hard for the average car thief. But if the thief knows what they're doing or has a car trailer I don't think hundreds of dollars worth of security is going to help. Same with a tracker - are the police actually going to follow this in a timely manner? I've heard lots of stories of people trying to recover goods themselves which could get you in a whole lot of trouble...

What is the point of contact forms/emails on websites if no one ever responds to them? I shall take my business elsewhere 😤

I've driven a couple of E39 M5's, owned a 540is for 15 years and had a 530i m/sport for 4 years, the M5's are an M car, the 540is is an absolute blast to drive and push the limit, only had the rear step out a couple of times, but I have to say the 530i m/sport was also fantastic to drive, it felt lighter, more agile, and after I did a bit of maintenance on the engine, vanos seals, etc the motor felt well tuned to the car.........it would've been even better if instead of the 5 speed auto it had the 6spd auto from the E60, my 530i also had the shorter diff ratio. A E60 feels lighter, more agile and quicker than the E39 with the same M54b30 in it. One E39 I'd like to drive is the Alpina B10 3.3 with a manual gearbox.

Vehicle is not currently running. I pulled the engine loom off it to get it repaired (which has been done) and it is not currently fitted. With the engine loom in, it will run and drive and work perfectly but unfortunately my workload prevents me from making time to do this and the long commute from my residence to my workplace also prevents this. Registration is on hold. There is a little bit of rust (42 years old so this is expected). It flew through its last wof as the rust isn't structural by any means and can be easily fixed. Original BMW wheels, Interior is old but not in bad condition. The original ignition was replaced by a start button. Other than that the m30b35 is healthy and does not smoke. It has 3 speed transmission too. I wanted one of these cars since my father had one back in South Africa when I was a little boy but the realities of life have now deviated me away from the original dream of restoring this to perfection. Priced realistically. IT WILL NEED TO BE TRAILERED . only interested in swaps for a motorcycle that is not LAMS approved. Viewing in Glenfield during business hours. Thanks for Looking after 5k ono https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/listing/3552027380?bof=N2UmXaPZ

A 'low k' dirty old import on 20 year old parts ( excluding all the expensive parts you need to run the thing). What a bargain.

@Kees yeah, they added that I think after people used them to stalk women. If it gave you 24 hours of tracking first could be worthwhile for $50. Cheap GPS trackers are available from about $200 but they need a sim and to be hard wired to car and are much more bulky.

Hence why I said I want to re drill/ run adapters. I've looked everywhere for wheels which are 4x100 but can't find anything I like. Most wheels are just knockoffs and look cheap. I guess I'll have to take some measurements and possibly run adapters! Thanks for the reply.

Quick Monday afternoon mod: Swapped out my stiff, notchy, ghetto ‘short shifter’ that came with the car. Put in a new BMW Z3 1.9 lever with a new shifter cup, fresh redline MTL and a clutch stop. Huge difference for the small amount of time and money invested. Shifts are now short, firm and precise but with far less notchiness and it is much easier to get into reverse / 2nd gear downshifts etc. Will get the shifter bushings done sometime later in the year - likely an outsourced job though. Images of the old ghetto shifter with bolt on extension to shorten throw.

Certainly not this one - this ad has been discussed before I think. The blurb is very very dodgy to the point of fraudulent, talking about an opinion on a typical face lift msport model which is certainly not what is for sale here. And it even suggests the "near beer" (which I assume is a 540 msport) e39 is "better" than a M5 which is just pure laughable BS. The price is about triple+ what someone might start sniffing at for a pre-face lift non sport model, despite the low km, which doesn't necessarily mean it won't be without your typical e39 age related treasures... Having had my cynical rant on that dubious Ad, I do think the e39 540 msport is a fine car in its own right and good ones, one day, may have their day... (well that's my investment strategy anyway 😁)

What's the go-to GPS tracker? My M325i is always in CBD / Supermarket / Mall carparks with its 20 year old alarm immobiliser and $25 steering wheel lock...

Understand your upset about your loss but, that’s a big accusation. There’s plenty of non-BMW people that offer cheap keys, didn’t think it could be one of them? No-one in the NZ BMW network can “create” a key, they are all ordered from Munich using the VIN number. All key new requests are logged through the parts system so it is easy to see if a new key has been ordered for a car should this happen. Would be pretty dumb to lose your job stealing an E46 M3 when there are thousands of more valuable BMWs out there.

Sorry to hear about this. When you get it back, maybe time to get a tracker or something like an Apple Air Tag hidden on it. Then you’ll know where it is?

It will be safe to remove, and yes ETC is the most likely.

And it starts! Although hesitant. Turned it off and starts fine now. Unsure as to what would have cause it but I want to nail it before the family gets stuck somewhere. I'll have a look a what relays fire the pump and see if they may have been getting sticky after sitting for 1 week. Or perhaps a tired fuel pump? Thanks heaps @Twistee, I was running pretty low on patience at the time. Also a HUGE thanks to @M3AN for taking the time to show me how to use INPA the other day. Long live the forums. 20220409_212121.mp4

Hadn't planned on it, but bought one today, will pick up next week. Spent a little over budget but it was by far the nicest we saw, condition and driving wise, and kind of spoke to us much more than the others. Looked at a few that were a bit cheaper with higher kms but they felt it. Little clean car rebate won't hurt either. Mainly I am stoked I convinced the wife into a white one (BMW wagon to boot!), she is a black car nut and I'm not a fan of trying to care for them. 2014, 75km but looks and feels much lower km - immaculate inside and out, M Performance front splitter + 19" wheels (guessing replicas of a late model ///M wheel??? with new cheap tyres but fitment is great). Autosure extreme warranty, hopefully won't need it. Will be putting on a Euro plate / Black Grille / Carplay and see how we go. A great partner for the M325i.

Designed by me and printed on my big FDM printer! M54 conversion is all done and road legal! Just need a quieter exhaust and lower ratio diff and it will be perfect (lol, well, you know..).

Another really satisfying milestone here getting the engine bay wiring virtually complete !! Just need to wire the back side of the 'secondary' plug which will have all of the wiring that will head into the cabin.

Yeah looks so much better than my old moulding which had ugly holes in the rubbery-plastic material that runs between the metal part of the moulding and the car itself. All the stickers are peeling off which triggers my OCD a bit. Luckily the car is due a WOF as the windscreen crack was what it failed on a couple months ago. Hoping to have a fresh WOF tomorrow with a nicely applied sticker!! Fingers crossed they don't find anything else because I would like to have a legal car again.
