My old man recently passed away. He has owned this E55 since near new. Previous owner was a friend of his. I decided I would buy it from the estate pending a go over. He always loved this car and we have spent many hours towing around both my previous E30 series car and the current dormant E34 race car over the years. I enjoyed driving it so I thought I would keep it in service. Probably not the smartest move with the price of petrol about to drive the cost of living to near Switzerland levels. So off on my Mercedes journey I go.

Awesome, good choice. OEM all the way IMO. ASC is pretty responsive on Instagram if you haven't tried there yet. Stu's Trim and Sound in Wiri did all the work on my interior, would recommend them super highly. They always have some crazy high end classics in their workshop too so you know you're in good hands if you go there.

Have you decided what route you are going to go with the retrim? What fabric did you decide on?

Poor M3, missing dash trim, rusty seat runners, incorrectly fitted door rubbers, front bumper, bonnet and arches look like they have seen better days........ sigh .... anyone test driving that beast needs to up to date with all their shots. Clearly owned by a "car guy", great documented service history.

So did you pop a skid, bro......? or did you do skid owww ?

Just got the typical "pop a skid" while driving through Milford main street in the 4-Motion W8, what a simple minded plebeian. At least he said my car sounds nice.

Transport mode. All cars have a way of shutting down everything except the bare essentials to enable the vehicle to start and run.

Not wanting to piss on your chips @hugo_nz but the level of enthusiasm for this amongst current BMW owners seems pretty low (not just in an 'I can't afford this' way)...am sure the tech is impressive but the want factor isn't there for me. still it's better than the new XM abomination I guess.

She’s almost here. 1 week to port arrival, and then on to dealership handover on the 30th! Attached:

Nope, the 130i one is a GS6-37BZ - rated to 370Nm, the ratios and box are shared with early Z4 3.0Si (think the later ones are shorter geared). 320i is a GS6-17BG... presumably to 170Nm??... and is used in the 4 pots 1-5 series.

Also the cross hanging off the rear vision mirror - probably more than a few 'Hail Marys' required to avoid borkage on this one

And for just a few grand extra you could get this immaculately presented example https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-3600457430.htm

Love these oldschool weapons! Was cool meeting you and seeing it in the flesh on Sunday. Keen to follow the build journey.

Kinda what I expected. Lots of interest, (surprisingly) no criticism of the car, but only contacts re price are the usual "what's your lowest cash price?" after which there is silence. To be fair, I've not widely advertised but that'll change this week. At least in part, that's why we're keen to know how many cars are selling, and for how much. We want to 'meet the market'. At present, if an imperfect FL 320i 4-door automatic can be listed - briefly it seemed - at $20k, a lower km, newer 325 should be worth more. But it is all about finding the buyer. Update: A 1987 325 coupe in a similar colour to ours, on bottlecaps (can't tell much more from the pic) was listed on TM at $27k ono and has been 'Withdrawn by seller'. (Listing #3584347957.)

Goes pretty well with that wizzy inline 8 cylinder

You bet it would be, on a Hyundai forum (if there is such a thing), and the consensus would be that it is still ugly AF no matter the brand.

Love optional extra ciggies on the floor, and the light weight "missing interior trim" option. Also appreciate the BMW "Individual" ruined front bumper, and very classy munted seat bolster too. Poor car. Saw it come up on Facebook a while ago. It's not even a factory manual. Realistically I wonder what its worth? 20-25K? Most thrashed example I've seen in a long time.
