2 pointsSo I've become a bit tired of my 5x regular gauges and I'd like to display a wider range of data (A/F ratios per cylinder bank, maybe speed / rpm, some performance stats etc). Also want to get the space in the console back so I can install a proper Android Auto head unit or similar. As I've already got a micro controller in the car hooking into the BMW and Nissan CAN buses its only a short(ish) jump to displaying things of interest on a screen. I came across Waveshare who make a really amazing range of screens and ordered the 7.9" 1280x400 capacitive touch model. Its about the size of a single DIN unit which should work really well ... will drive this with a Raspberry Pi mounted to the back of it. Will run Grafana on the Pi and stream data to it from the micro ... which I will change from an Arduino to much more capable ESP32 also. Anyhooooo ... a picture is worth a thousand words so here is the display and a simple mock up dash running off the Pi.

1 point“Speed will be a factor” Well of course it will, fatalities in stationary vehicles are practically unknown.

1 pointGot some photos from Ray (Chubb racing Ltd) who's doing my rollbar/halfcage, its looking great so far, really friendly/helpful guy would definitely recommend him to anyone looking into getting any sort of cage done, all to MSNZ spec.

1 pointThat’s passed through quite a few sets of hands now. Still a very nice car though.

1 pointUpgraded the work (and play) from home office as I decided the E30 wasn’t enough of a money pit. As close as I’ll get to driving Group A DTM E30 M3!

1 pointFirst world problems, drowned my cell so ordered a replacement ex AU a week ago - DHL has just processed it in Auckland, FFS 7 days from Brisbane to Auckland customs. Ordered a laptop for my daughter, two and a half weeks later and it's still sitting in Dunedin as Harvey Norman failed to request the stock transfer to Auckland. I did roast the Michelins through third today to blow off some steam.

1 pointPut 99% of interior back together (just need to replace front component speakers, speaker panel & carpet trim) Went for WOF....failed 4 tyres due to 10 yr old rotted tyres - easy fix! New tyres next week & car will legally be back on the road. WOF inspectors spent more time looking at engine bay than the rest of the car. Thanks to Aliexpress & Bunnings for having most of the tools, clips & other little loose bits to fix everything 🤣 Rod from @euroitalian has been awesome for parts!

1 pointMission accomplished. The high pitch power on dentist drill whine at 100ish has gone, must have been the diff. All works good and feels tight as a tiger. Handbrake can now be adjusted properly, no more 5 click nonsense. Checked for 11s, satis.

1 pointIm Batman. The included tape is reeaaally grabby, only get one shot at getting it on square! Going to run a fine bead of sealant around it just crap getting in the leading edge.

1 pointYeah factory/dealer option Aero spoiler, Maxton lip sits on it - https://www.maxtondesign.co.uk/body-kits/bmw/bmw-1-series/BMW-1-SERIES-E87/E87-1SERIES-FACELIFT/spoiler-cap-bmw-1-e81-e87 I think im going to think of a mechanical option to attach the Aero spoiler before installing the lip, better than the factory double sided tape. Im sick of retaping the edges down, Ive retaped and glued it twice now and edges keep lifting. A stealth self taper/pop rivet in each corner from the underside would solve it for good, with some rust protection.

1 pointGave it wash prior to WOF tomorrow. This is Fusso King of Gloss applied 7 weeks ago, and it was covered in mud prior to this evening. Stuff is really legit, behaves like a ceramic but way cheaper and easier to apply.

1 pointHit 100kmh today, which feels like an achievement after 5 weeks Really loving the storm motorworks V4 gearknob, with all the new/teflon bushes etc in mine the shift has always been really tight, but the big lump of stainless has done wonders for the weight behind the throw

1 pointGot the opportunity today to test the brakes, and coding, in Tauranga today... f**kknuckle in a van pulled out in front of me at 80kmh, I slammed on brakes at full noise, got ABS pulsing and the skippy lockup feeling.... full emergency stop. Missed the asshat by about half a metre, probably half a metre that I didnt have before to be fair. So they've probably paid for themselves

1 point272000km oil change (do them every 7000km) and BMW brake pad paste on the front sway bushings (as per Kevin Birds recommendation)

1 point2000+ km of road trips stuck on the old girl over the christmas break, didnt miss a beat, went up and down old taupo road a few times, even got a clean run over the saddle road in manawatu... so much fun. We are on track to knock off 300,000km on the odo this year, and it'll finally be broken in.

0 pointsThis crash was just after the incredibly frustrating roadworks that run nearly the entire stretch between Carterton and Masterton. The speed limit changes 5 times. 50 -> 70 ->50 ->70 ->50 ->80 This all was once 100kph with passing lanes. All passing lanes are now permanently closed.
