Put the Soarer on the dyno last weekend, made a peak figure of 157rwkw which isn't too bad for the 4.3. The stock 4.0 engine would have made approx 127rwkw, and a lot less torque than the 4.3. Normally these have more but the active suspension pump is an approximate loss of 15rwkw Next I'll do headers that should bring it up to around 165rwkw, after that some sort of piggy back tune.

What is wrong with people, they have an e39 540 and a chrysler prowler and they are selling the BMW!!

I'll be in Torbay tomorrow, and a jaunt into Browns Bay would be easy. That said, I wouldn't buy it without a PPI. I live very near HellBM, if you can work out a schedule with Ray, I could bring it there. Else, Bellars is very close to Brown's Bay and the owner might be willing to take it in for you. All this said, usually time slots for PPIs are at a premium, so you aren't getting one on short notice at any of the BMW garages...

Agree with @Olaf and @TermiPeteNZ regarding buying advice. Mine is an 2001 E53 4.4l ex japan. Bought it with 198kms on it and had it 3 months now. Weather you go for this one or some other one do your due diligence, get a PPI and if there are any issues get the seller to sort them and get an MBI. This may save you from the MBI insurer not covering an issue because they have assessed it as pre-existing. Speaking from a recent experience with my X5 here. With the 'issues' that mine had/has I still think its awesome! I got mine for a reasonable price so I expected faults and I'm not too fussed - I'm just going to drive it and enjoy it! Kept an eye on this one too and I reckon a 4.8 X5 would be great fun! Did I mention that I think X5's are awesome?

I've been a lurker here for years and owned a fair few BMWs, but nothing really worth showing anyone. Just this week I swapped my E39 540i for this NZ new 328i manual in Boston green, in albeit tatty condition As you can see it is a bit of a project to tidy up. The drivers door card was held on with some cable ties due to the top plastic support shattering, the driver's seat has a small hole appearing in the outer bolsters and the gearknob and steering wheel leather is typically worn through Mechanically it is mostly sound. 90% of the supesension is replaced, new shocks and most of the nushes done with Nolothane (black) The clutch has been done recently also It needs new top hats in the front, so OEM M3 ones will be going in I plan to keep it kind of stock and tidy it up and do a few little track days for a giggle I have already repaired the door card well enough to stop it flapping around but am going to replace it because there are screw holes. I have removed both front seats and fixed a non operational front-back passenger motor Fixed a wiring fault on the driver's pre-tensioner Fixed a non working passenger window and put new clips in the door and re-glued the inner plastic reinforcements back on properly The first thing I will tackle in the near future under the hood is a full cooling system overhaul Later down the track I will be installing an SC14 with PWR water to air and a water meth kit, I have already got this all mounted on my spare m52, I did the mounts myself as it's easy enough, it works with either m50 or m52 manifolds, with the small frame size PWR cooler sitting under the manifold This post was too long, sorry chaps

Are you using the correct o-rings? Not all o-rings are designed to work with oil.

A somewhat unusual E60 M5 for sale in auckland at Buy Right Cars with asking price $37,980. I thought the "Unusual Edition" was a good badge, it's Indianapolis Red with White Leder interior, and only 40k kms on the clock. Please refrain from commenting that the low mileage is due to the previous owner was to scared to be seen in public in it; the buyer may ultimately join our ranks! http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-1320656610.htm Nice to see an alternate hue. At first I thought the images had bad white balance... Then I did a google search on Indianapolis Red and found it is kinda rusty looking red; "a bit ginga" if you like. It's striking, I kinda like it. And here's that Nissan Maxima wood again... ....and, the obligatory rearshot: Sassy!

Track day pads always surprise me on the road when they don't stop first thing in the morning. I went back to oem pads for trackdays after I discovered that not braking hard means you go faster. i went through a stage of ABS into every corner. It's not quicker and the pads almost catch fire...

HI Logan, I'm speaking only as a keen photographer who has a mild dislike of HDR; I'm not suggesting the use of HDR for the sale picture is a vendor trying to hide or misrepresent anything. They might qualify for a 'dubious artistic selection' merit badge; nothing more.

@Gabe79 Thanks! I have emailed the seller to see if its going to be possible, will let you know but as you say its extremely unlikely. Appreciated every ones honest opinions re PPI and MBI. My understanding re MBI from reading the threads is its difficult to get when you don't by from a dealer, but I see AA offer it. Maybe best to start another thread about MBI (or search for an exisiting one. Yes I also think X5's are awesome hence why I am prepared to part with my hard earned cash for one. Missus thinks I should get a Tourareg, but I just cant stoop to it.

I think I bought the motivation and enthusiasm kit first... I think it is a value line kit? That'd explain why I made so much progress initially and now can't find them as they'll be at the back of the garage with all subsequent (unused) purchases in front of them.

Walked into garage - looked at two works in progress and a pile of parts, sighed, walked out again. Anyone know the BMW part numbers for motivation and enthusiasm? I seem to be out of both at the moment.

Err, Gentlemen. I should like to take this opportunity to suggest - in the most politest terms - that HDR is not a 'happening thing'. The only exception being when you can't tell it's HDR. The acid test is that if it looks like Trump (over-orange, over yellow, over-green, over-blue... perhaps there's a tie sellotaped to the front like a kindergarten collage, or hipster mixed-media artwork), there's no subtlety, the image is broken and searing your eyeballs. 'Bit like Trump, really. Now, back to the car. It's a good looking wagon. Even with an acid-trip Instagram filter! @TermiPeteNZ and @treone have amongst the freshest experience in owning/operating similar wagons here. The thread quoted above is a good one. Friends will let friends buy X5's, but friends should not encourage friends to image stack whacky HDR output.

Hey Logan - yep saw this one pop up and agree the HDR is happening!! But I do love the E53s in Blue. @treone bought a beaut one recently. I've got the M62 4.4i E53 with 222Kms on it. There's a good discussion on X5s here: http://bimmersport.co.nz/topic/58166-2001-2004-x5-opinions-wanted/ But that isn't quite so relevant to the 4.8is with the N62 in it. Ask yourself 'if I have to drop $5K on sorting it during the first year, is it still a good buy'? Try to get service history - if lots of crap has been sorted already then you can buy with increased confidence. This is where I lost out .... Put a MBI on it to manage risk as Brent from BM World says "late v8's have the N62 engine, they have a lot more issues but use less fuel" - also have a lot more power! Let us know how you get on!!!

My M54 expansion tank didn't explode until 160 kms The radiator will be the next to go Everything else is done. Ours has High OBC and tells you when the coolant has escaped anyway... and my Mrs stops and phones me EVERY time it "BONGS" at her

It's not the change per-se, it's the plummet in functionality (no BB Code or raw post editing) that's the problem. Sure, we get used to it but that doesn't make it suck less. It also encourages the exact behaviour that rag-top (rightfully) deplores. I post less, I quote less and and don't even bother with complex formatting or quoting any more. Might just be me. That might even suit some people lol.

Yeah i bought a 535i with 530,000km on it from an old guy, everything was very tidy because he spent alot fixing. When driving it home the front shocks which were so far gone it was hard to stay on the road at 100kph, ive never floated like that before. Maybe he thought that was normal or liked it, who knows.

Hmm I quite like E60 MSport in white but I know it's not to everyone's liking. But I def do prefer the silver interior trim in the black one. Whatever you get it will be awesome Keep us posted!
