  6. If it was a cooling system leak it would be the same colour of the coolant. The drain is above the rear of the gearbox
  7. If it's a convertible and the roof needs to come out/off, only an approved repairer can get the jig to take it off. I'm told it's stored in Australia and has to be ordered in to do a repair. You cannot take the roof off without the jig.

  13. The heads normally crack through the back under the camshaft and through the camshaft journals. The blocks crack between the bore and the studs or water jackets
  14. Congrats Gregg... you'll be a grandfather in no time
  15. You cannot drive a BMW with out a thermostat. They are duo active. Cold they recirculate water in the front of the motor. When the thermostat opens it closes off the front gallery so water goes down to the back of the engine and comes back through the head.
  16. A video won't help. Might be cool to listen to or watch. What are the drive system fault codes ( from a proper scanner done by someone with a brain) DME, EGS, ABS & ASC /DSC needs to be scanned before you go any further or you are just wasting money & time

  21. Specifically, any 540i with a production date before 09/1998 will have only one CPS. 540is from 09/1998+ have two CPSs. So, it depends on your car's production date. You can see where the CPS (#12) seats in the upper timing cover. The diagram doesn't show the second CPS, but you can see where it goes on the other side of the timing case (#2 is pointing almost exactly at that point).

  23. BMW does not track history, including build history by engine numbers, only chassis numbers. Service history can only be checked either by using owners name, rego or chassis numbers at the appropriate dealers where it has been serviced and you would need to get the owners permission to get copies of the service history. The dealer will quote "Privacy Issues". Dealers do not swap or have access to each others service files. Factory recalls or warranty repairs would be tracked by owners name, rego & chassis numbers through the servicing dealer & BMW NZ.
