Know what you mean - don't you just hate that

Pre or facelift car?
-
Welcome & nice car Fire away with any Q's - plenty of people on here for advice.
-
Dealer or S/H I guess. Quite pricey new though- I think. I have only ever seen in black Depending on damage - maybe some black windscreen eurothane to stick it back together?
-
Allan, Think you will find Dave was referring to asking price (whatever that was) was approx $8000 over it's value, not a value of $8000. Agree though that some people think their M cars are worth more than they are. Old story though - market decides
-
Greg, yes you do need a Jap one - they have IR receiver in the clown nose. Other markets don't.
-
Hey Ollie - That colour - you could confuse it with your E30 from the front aye
-
M20's don't have lifters. Normal tappet noise is distinctive ticking & can easily be traced to source. Even worn cam should be easy to locate. Big end sounds very "internal" & normally prevailent when snapping the throttle open.

Glenn - you don't use an FBH?? Thought all good mechanics did
-
And now for something completely different....

These operate very differently from a proper turbocharger. The turbine fan operates at one speed and simply blows air into your intake, probably around 2psi, to increase the airflow ^^^^^^^^^ At least he's honest!! -
why you shouldn't leave your keys to your bmw with your son

To True! They should have entered an anti start pin code into the OBC - that would have slowed him:- -
HB mate. Seems not 12 months since the last one on here for you. Catch ya at the weekend
-
Glenn - "decent size screen" - should have got an E46/38/39 with OEM monitor
-
"Orange" battery light?? Alt w/light is red. Also $500-600 fix is a bit "out there" without having confirmed the problem in the alternator -if infact there is
-
Quite likely to still have required pressure/volume delivery for a wee 8. These pumps produce 2.5 - 3 litres per min anyway. Most fuel returns to tank via pressure regulator
-
Out of interest - why do you want a higher flow pump than the factory unit? Is the car/engine modified? If not, there will be no gain in changing as the standard pump will deliver way more fuel than the engine ever requires.
-
Love the car but not sure on the leather bound dash, at least not in grey, black version may be better. Think probably standard black for me
-
Bet you're glad you waited for the right car - it has certainly presented itself to you in the end. Absolutely stunning, well done Me - rather envious
-
Look in the drivers door pillar first. Thats where I found the problem & is the most likely one as it is most used.. If not drivers- You can, carefully, remove the front door trims with the door still shut, then disconnect the locking motor & release the catch. I had to do this to the drivers door to be able to open it to fix wiring
-
^^^^^^^ Yep. Cheers for sharing
-
Great bloody sparky then! I'd find another
-
No, they don't interchange. All M20 variants do but not between M10/20/40
-
Been there before. Check for corroded connections/broken wires in drivers door jamb
-
DON'T get a V6 petrol for the very reason in your last line

As above - there is an industry standard but from my perspective the new qualification procedure/standard has "gone out the window" compared to the old apprenticeship schemes where I reacon there was a far better focus on the trade & the learning of it - both practical & theory. From experience -the modern apprentice, (or whatever they are now called) (not all I must stress) seem to want to "cheat the system" (& they can) to gain the qualification - in the end still as green as grass but thinking to know it all. Nothing, but nothing, beats experience, that said though - there also needs to be a want to learn.
