  1. Outside of a superior interface what do you get out of CIC over CCC?
  2. According to an online VIN checker it was a Malaysian destined car when new. A few years ago I recall reading about a shipment of Mercedes that came out of Malaysia to NZ all with very low mileage that were unable to be registered, maybe this one was. Must have an interesting back story. 3. Actually if you frequent some of the Mercedes forums as I have over the years the W210 platform does not get a lot of love. The engine in these is meant to be pretty fab though. It's a slightly different beast than the M5. Fast Mercs have always been more muscle car than sports car. Im amazed how faded the wood is for 28,000kms. I think I commented on the red E60 M5 thread the other day, wrapped in carbon or gloss black that would be a big improvement. A lot of fast car for the money...
  4. So 40% better then? That's quite an improvement.

    Quick rant thread.

Amazon's entry into Australia and hopefully NZ will pressure them on some of the brand new products they sell.
  6. He is exactly right on the cooling system. I cannot believe they are so bad and people act like it's a normal thing to have to refresh the entire system every 100,000kms. Not just bad but consistently bad over so many models. That being said, I wouldn't think that it's unreasonable to open the engine up and refresh some things at 200,000km or 120k miles. That way you're set for the next 200,000. Likewise, I can't help but feel if you take your car to a reputable service place they can make sure all the bolts on things are tight and where they should be at a regular interval.
  7. Well that's disappointing... I was hoping for dropping road spikes or an oil slick personally.
  8. So what you're saying is that a despec'd mini would appeal to the same people as buy Fiat 500s? There is some sense in that, car ownership is not what it once was for younger people.
  9. I quite like the colour. The trim, removed and wrapped in carbon fibre could be a good option, or piano gloss black...
  10. That interior is bloody awful. That, and the issues the car has relative to the others on sale makes the pricing feel a little optimistic.
  11. Very nice, I like the inlay in the dash wood.
  12. Comes down to how much you can or want to do yourself. If it can sit in the garage and be a weekend car and out of action while you wait for parts from overseas then more power to you. Sending it to a mechanic will probably have you living in a bus shelter in fairly short order!
  13. Nothing more expensive than a cheap BMW as the saying goes.
  14. Where's the wear on the seat bolster? Are you talking about the bit you have to slide over the seat to get in it? That will be a symptom of the white leather, never seems to last as well as black.
  15. M3 or not, the seat colour is quite cool. Bit more interesting than the black most of us have.
  16. I like the "Never had a problem" and "starter motor replaced" I replace my starter motor too sometimes, just for fun.
  17. Amazing what turns up in little old New Zealand isn't it?
  18. Nice, I see you've gone for the same interior colour as the E39. Did you trade that or are you hanging onto it?

    Quick rant thread.

I honestly don't know what my transmission is but everything I see online and what I paid is in the $400NZ range. So by the time you add labour and proper fluid you're up to around a grand for the service. Still, guess it's good for a while now and I certainly noticed an improvement. Even with only 85k on the car.
  20. I just think that someone needs to stand up for coal, oil and gas. It might as well be me, a mediocre white man. I'll fit right in with the rest of the dinosaurs.

The cost of the integrated transmission filter/pan BMW now uses...
  22. Personally, I think we're at a tipping point with these types of vehicles. People like us on this forum are interested in them but a lot of people are starting to warm up to the idea that their next car may be electric or a smaller engined performance model. A lot of the E60/61 M5s seem to be sitting around waiting for a buyer, likewise with big V8 SUVs.
  23. I had one of these Anniversary Editions, was a great car. The 530i is probably the best balanced of the lot.
  24. If a person blames the apprentice, what does that say about: A. Their attitude towards looking after their team and now throwing them under the bus? B. How closely they are checking on and/or mentoring the apprentice? I had an instance where a guy fobbed something off on the apprentice, I mentioned to him that it was his apprentice and his name was on the building. You can't have it both ways.
