My F30 was built in the South African plant and I believe they have build 3/5 series cars in RSA for some time now. You can plug your VIN into an online decoder and it will show the plant/country for you.

Will be watching this with interest. Gotta love the low-baller “$18K cash?” - what else were you expecting to pay with? Diamonds? Gold bullion? Surely this will go For sub-30K right now at $1 reserve?

So $900 on a full replacement set which is what maybe every two years? Really worth all the effort of changing wheels? (which I would assume you would potentially lose money on too). Maybe I am just profligate but I personally wouldn’t bother. I don’t look at cars as having any saving/optimisation to them. Just a money hole.

Have to agree - have 19” on mine and even with relatively average tyres non-RF that it came with (from Auckland BMW no less) the ride is firm but not uncomfortable. I don’t really see the tyres as being a large cost personally for this type of vehicle.

One thing I have noticed with cars coming in from Singapore is that the adhesives and plastics seem to suffer. People rage about the electronics but they seem to be pretty robust on modern vehicles. Lots of bubbling panels, leather etc from what I’ve seen.

The issue here is that you very rarely get back any of the money you put into cars like this on mods/upgrades. It'll probably sit there for a while and then be negotiated down close to $10K which for the right person would be a good buy. I know people will say you can buy a car and do it up but for a lot of people they cannot be bothered with that. Good E36s are becoming harder and harder to find after all. Now that sporty E30's are getting up there in terms of price people will start picking up the more desirable E36 cars.

Ran some polish over mine, followed by a wax. I had to go out to take the cat to the vet so took a quick picture in their carpark. Trying to channel @Jacko. One thing I will say is that I ordered Armor-All wheel cleaner and it's definitely not up there with the other brands sadly. Still, the choice was quite limited on the Repco website for 'essentials' with most stuff being out of stock.

You disappoint me, Dave. ? So it does actually hold up? I feel a little embarrassed, trust me to post that and someone here has done it!

Nice better than the “I plasti-dipped my trim” you see some people do.

I thought it was going to be a solution to the cloudy chrome. But looks like there is no cure! What/how did you go about painting them?
-
Haha. Actually I answered my own question - Bridgestone has some stores open for essential vehicles. For me, my vehicle is essential to get to the supermarket.

Anyone know what the tyre situation is during lockdown?
-
What are these worth, if you don’t mind me asking?
-
Agree - this would preserve what you’re after and those welds are very untidy.
-
It’s an essential good, we’re not apes. ?

Well, they replaced the evaporator core on my E70 via the BMW dealer which required the whole dash to come out. That would have been an eye watering sum I’m sure. That’s the only claim I’ve ever had to make and it was easy.

I am happier that this is paid out than a lot of other things the govt spends it on. We need to keep people going so that when this is all over we have at least made some effort to contain the economic damage. It makes me a bit sad to hear some businesses are just throwing their people away. For what it’s worth, I’m a senior exec at a medium-sized business by NZ standards (150 odd) and we have committed to our people that everyone is paid until end of April, even those who can’t work from home. The cash burn is incredible but we’re trying to make it work.
-
Well, if you need a front set of brakes I have a set of Brembo pads and rotors. For after the lockdown. Congrats!
-
It also says essential needs - I was thinking that means if you need to drive to the supermarket. I suspect mechanics and the like will be like tradies. For example, if a pipe bursts you can call someone to come fix it but they can’t renovate your bathroom for example.

Humour is what’s going to get a lot of people through this. Even if I don’t get the meme. ?
-
I think you’ve missed the point - I am in isolation and having been in the US as everything started to shutdown around me, I have more idea than most as to the reality and the importance of our own actions.

I have a rant about COVID19. Flew in from Chicago yesterday morning and after getting off the plane we were informed the arrival cards we’d filled in were no-longer valid, so everyone crammed into the narrow hallway to fill in the new ones. They were identical to the old ones except for a section to confirm you believed you were not sick and self isolation address. Pretty sure mine was pretty much unreadable after filling it in on my knee.

I don’t think the forum has anything to do with it. Are we now the 2nd hand car selling police or something? How long should someone hold this car for before they sell it and what gives you the right to pass judgment on that? I think it’s a pretty slippery slope of moral relativism, and if we are all truely above blame on anything like this in our lives then we can all cast the first stone. I dunno, I find it hard to get worked up over some guy I don’t know, selling a car I don’t wish to own for more than he bought it. Don’t these things sell all day long for circa $30K anyway?
-
Who cares what it sold for previously? If you want to spend $30K on it, spend it. If not, don’t.
