  1. Slick e46! Really well sorted Be interested to hear how the leather colour holds up. Matt clear coat should definitely help and prevent dye xfer from jeans. I recently did the vanos piston seals on my m54. Was definitely noticeable despite the engine feeling pretty healthy.
  2. Thanks but i’ll pass as I have a touring and only need the front springs. Cheers.
  3. How many kms on the shocks ? If original they are more than likely junk.
  4. Keen on the front springs if they’re the original m-tech 2 type.
  5. Borrowed off another forum member
  6. On to the rear supension. Just replacing the swingarm balljoints, sway bar links and 15mm mtech2 bar. Upper control arms are loose in the balljoints but no play so they’ll get done later on. The shocks were suprisingly good still. They mount to the subframe and have very small travel so I don’t think they get as hard a time compared to e39 sedan. Thanks @andrewm for loaning the tool will need to make some repairs to it though ? As for the subframe bushes I’m thinking i’ll just pay someone to do them. No hoist and no special tool ?
  7. Gave the car a well overdue workout up through the Mangamukas to Cape Reinga. Nearly used a full tank of gas there and back starting from Paihia.
  8. Meguiars 105 and their ultimate finishing polish on a rotary polisher. The sanding marks were from an attempt at fixing stone chips.
  9. Tackling the staining andsun fade on the clear coat
  10. agree, that was a real c u n t y move by the seller.
  11. Bought a lower kms trans and got the torque converter in it rebuilt. Did a basic service on the trans too, filter kit and drained as much of the old oil out as i could.
  12. The X5M is more ‘car’ like then suv, jeep, Ponsonby tractor with it’s lowered suspension, low profile tyres and the s63 from the M5 car, barge, whip. Might’ve been called a car by someone who’s native tongue isn’t English. Point is, no need to split hairs over what someone calls something with 4 wheels that goes broom broom.
  13. “The word car is believed to originate from the Latin word carrus or carrum ("wheeled vehicle"), or the Middle English word carre (meaning "two-wheel cart", from Old North French). ... It originally referred to any wheeled horse-drawn vehicle, such as a cart, carriage, or wagon.”
  14. ‘Ooomph’ green degreaser from bunnings. It’s cheap, works well and doesn’t stink of diesel.
  15. Building back the ‘trust’ after a coolant job on an old car involves religiously checking coolant temps and for leaks after each drive. So far so good, lighting was a bit better so here’s a before and after of the engine bay. Many new shiny parts! Keen eye will notice the intensive washer bottle and pump delete. Replaced the washer jets with e60 fanning ones. So much better than the e39 baby pee dribble jets. Engine bay when first acquired. Engine bay after all M54 maintenance done, including new fan shroud and intake boots, and a good clean up.
  16. Intake manifold and underneath it maintenance all done. New gaskets, vacum caps, ccv and hoses, coolant hard pipes and a bit of a clean up. Coolant hard pipes did break removing them as expected but was pretty easy to clean up the remaining bits stuck in the engine. Bonus points to previous owners for regular coolant changes as there was no corrosion or build-up of crusty coolant any where.
  17. Nah i quite like the colour coded look but will be painting the chrome window trims either gloss or matt black.
  18. Time for the intake manifold to come off to replace common maintenance stuff.
